View Full Version : Who is the WTAWorld poster that you REALLY would like to meet?

Forget about your cyber buddies in the chatting threads or players' forums, the following posters are the ones who manage to get under almost everyone's skins, be it with their knowledge and wit or with their sarcasm and aggressivity  .

and who exactly would be the poster that you would most like to meet or is dying to know more about?

Helen Lawson - who is this supposed former Oscar winner ;) who happens to know a lot about Hollywood and its history? Crazy to know about her?

Lizchris - few people get to upset so many posters using only a little smiley

Crazy Canuck - the Queen of sarcasm, the ultimate defender of irony and her own perceived justice. Rebecca for the insiders.

Volcana - the liberal Queen/King ... in fact so little is known about this poster but his/her political views...

Leena - multifaceted, provocative, always surprising, never bland, this chamaleon is usually upset or upsetting depending on your and her mood.

Deucediva - a favorite in non-tennis, brash and fierce, always knowledgeable...

The Boiled Egg - thousands and thousands of posts, a living tennis encyclopedia and probably the one poster to have met the most real tennis players...

Griffin - the power hungry dictator is actually very sexy and sometimes domineering, always vigilant and ready for action. Whip it! :armed:

Car Key Boi - very original character, loud-mouthed, chauvinistic but always a riot, unless you're a student tard of course :D ...

many others to be considered, like Dawn Marie, Azza and Gentenaire, but ran out of space...

There is another poster, who i dont see around anymore, and id like to meet him, he kept asking me to estimate the girth of a tennis players legs. I mean like 30 times, and he would not take, "I have no 4ç()_"éing idea for an answer. I believe he wante to make a blowup doll of this tennis player and needed precise measurements. Nice to know there are stranger posters out there than me!

I think you should have really got the Scarlet O'Hara part, you really look like the incarnation of a Southern Belle on this picture. BTW I just can't remember were you one of the hundreds of 'wannabes' who got screentested for the part?

I don't know Bette Davis and Joan Crawford got into that kind of flicks by the time they were on the skids (for Pete's sake they even teamed up in the genre) and I doubt it really did much to boost up their careers

Yes, I was one of the many who auditioned for Gone with the Wind. Actually, David Selznick spotted me modeling in New York as a teenager (19) and he paid me to come out to Hollywood to audition. He even paid for my sister Florence to come out with me. He put us up in a nice hotel, gave us a daily stipend for expenses, and never hit on me once! I did a bunch of screen tests and was actually quite good, but I had no acting experience at all, I had just been a model. So I didn't get the part, but I got a contract with Columbia as a bit player and worked my way up from there. I was out of the slums of Brooklyn forever!! That leech Florence stayed too and then when Dad died, Mom moved to Hollywood, too, and they were on the dole from me from day one!

Hon, I'm 86, there's not much to hold out for anymore in terms of decent roles. I mean, plastic surgery, make-up and lighting can only do so much! If they want a Driving Miss Daisy, they'll just age-up Jane Fonda or someone.

Yeah, playing a bad girl in Adam had four sons starring Warner Baxter and Ingrid Bergman (on loan from Selznick). However this seems to be the only film you ever made for Columbia. So I take it they just gave you a one-role contract and then didn't give you other jobs with them. How come? Why did they let you go to Paramount? I guess their talent scouts were pretty bad then...

I got loaned out a lot. Walter Wanger is the one who really made me a star, and to him, I'll always be grateful. He's the one who got me into "Smash Up" and that's when I really took off, but I'd been in Hollywood for 10 years, so I could act at that point. Truth be known, I was only picked up by Columbia and loaned out because my hair photographed well in Technicolor which was new then. That's how I got my foot in the door.

Reap the Wild Wind was a good stand out for me, along with Beau Geste during those years.

I don't know many stars who refused to appear nude when they were young are doing it now that they're over 50. See Mimmi Rogers, Diane Keaton (with a full frontal scene in her last flick no less!) and many more. Seems Hollywood's currently going on a Oldie is sexy binge right now.

Yes, that's true, too bad for me, it's about 30 years too late! Nude scene at 50 is not the same as nude scene at 86, but I'd never do that, dames from my generation didn't do nudity.

I guess my career fall off was my own doing, I was just tired of Hollywood by 1958 or so, I mean, I was the Jelena Dokic of Hollywood from about 1940-1958, I worked all the time, I wanted the fame and money. Floyd and Carrollton were all I cared about after I won the Oscar, so it's really my own doing that I didn't do much quality stuff after that.

Yep, you were wonderful in those (and lucky you all those top leading men). I know you told me once that Ray Milland didn't quite turn you on. How about Robert Preston and Lee Bowman? Did you like the bemoustached leading man typical of the 30s and 40s?

Some (great) exceptions though: Hedy Lamarr (Extasy), Maureen O'Sullivan (Tarzan, the Ape Man, before the Hays Code was enforced), Lauretta Young (before the Hays Code too naturally). And later on Marilyn Monroe (she was to appear nude in something's got to give. She died before making the film but we still have the stills, fortunately

Robert Preston, though not gay, was too effeminite for my tastes. I liked 'em rough and tough and Southern! DeMille loved Preston, though, and he was a great actor.

I got along with all my leading men, but I preferred the clean-shaven look. It was nice to work with John Wayne and Ray Milland in the early days, both were true gentlemen.

Oh yeah, that Roger Corman horror flick. He did another one for Corman Premature Burial.
But he was mostly famous for playing British gentlemen in the 30s and 40s.
One of his best films was The Major and the Minor by Billy Wilder (with today's standards some people who call it dangerously close to pedophelia though. An officer attracted to a young woman (Ginger Rogers) disguised as a 12-year old girl

You've won me over Helen, and instead of voting for Kerry, I've elected you!

Thanks!

Hedy Lamarr did the nudity in Europe I believe, and she was European, they are less uptight about nudity, then and now.

So Loretta Young did a nude scene? I'm shocked, she always wore her devout Catholicism on her sleeve and was Miss Goody Two Shoes, at least to most. That scandal about the baby with Clark Gable didn't come out until 30 years after the fact.

Actually, I haven't casted my ballot for the [ WTAworld poster you
would really like to meet?]poll.

You'll have to work for this one.
I think a pledge to become a JHH supporter will be all it takes.

Oh! Come on Helen! Your from Hollywood! I'm sure you slept
with every director in town and made more Faustian bargins than
you can even remember. :p

Hon, I NEVER did the casting couch routine, I was sort of super-bitch from Day One with a huge sense of entitlement. It paid off. I did sleep with George Cukor to try to land Gone with the Wind, but for obvious reasons, it didn't work and I never tried it again. Viv was smart, though, she sent a cabana boy to Cukor. The rest, they say, is history.

Uhuh. ;) Sure whatever you say, whatever you say. (mums the

Maybe TheBoiledEgg could get me some cool Russian tennis player friends... ;) (And help with my tennis knowledge too... :) )

And maybe Helen could help me get into Hollywood... ;)

It would be nice to meet someone from the board one day. :)
But maybe not right now - I wouldn't want anyone here to get my cold/cough/sore throat... ;)

OMG, Helen, you're a riot !! shame on Cukor  for letting you down for a cabana boy! but don't forget that Vivien Leigh had great vapid green eyes, that she used with then rarely seen sexyness and vulnerability...

Well, Becca is geographically closest to me (aprox 60 miles away) and I will have a coffee with her some day, I have "known" Griffin for longer and she lives in Boston which is a plus as she can get me Red Sox tickets. So Griffin it is
