* I knew Netherlands had a shot at being here, but the choice of male partner is so bad that they may as well not have bothered.

* Well, I suppose they want Golovin and Gasquet to qualify, so Netherlands is looking like a good choice now. ;) I wonder what happened to Amelie? And Fabrice and Sebastien for that matter?

* So Tommy Haas finally wants to play for Germany. He wouldn't play with Steffi Graf back in 2000, but he'll play with Anna-Lena Groenefeld? What happened to Marlene Weingartner and Nicolas Kiefer? I'd quite prefer them.

* Argentina - thank you! Guillermo Coria finally agreed to make up for his drug suspension two years ago. Gisela Dulko is a good second choice behind Paola Suarez. Virginia must want to play Auckland or Gold Coast.

* The top four seeds are great. Thank God that Marat and Anastasia are coming back. How boring would it be without them.

* Frankie's back! Yay! Davide back again. What happened to Filippo Volandri?

* A much weaker field than last year without Hewitt, Clijsters and Mauresmo.

* Overall, quite, um, interesting. Will be keenly watching Michaella Krajicek, Dulko, Golovin, Groenefeld, and of course my faves, Safin, Myskina, Hrbaty, Frankie and Molik.

Amélie's playing in the Hong Kong exhibition. Fabrice injured his wrist in Davis Cup and is out for the rest of the year - perhaps is questionable even for the beginning of next year

But France has a really adorable team :hearts: as well as Argentina  ;)

That is a pretty weak field, dissappointing in comparison to last years.

Argentina have been ripped off they deserve to be third seeds and in group B.

so golovin and gasquet are playing, they would make quite a nice team if they get through it should be interesting but krajicek is in the play-off, it would be huge for her development if the netherlands are able to get through the play-off into the groups.

I don´t agree with that. Maybe Gisela has more charisma, but in game Paola has had far away a better year than Gisela, in both singles and doubles. I saw them play both this year and as much as Gisela impressed me with her strong serve and forehand, Paola has impressed me also with her forehand and crosscourt shots.

Anyway. I like the team :hearts: Gise and Guillermo can do very well together.:)

French withdrew.Thats the article about it

France pull out of Hopman Cup
France have pulled out of next month's Hopman Cup after a mix-up over their female representative Tatiana Golovin. Golovin was due to partner Richard Gasquet in the mixed team event starting in Perth, Australia on New Year's Day but she inadvertently entered another tournament.

French officials agreed to let the 16-year-old play in the women's tournament championship on the Gold Coast to avoid a hefty fine, and withdrew their team from the Hopman Cup.

Hopman Cup officials later announced that Zimbabwe would replace the French, represented by the brother and sister team of Wayne and Cara Black, the Wimbledon mixed doubles champions.

Zimbabwe face the Netherlands in a playoff for a place in the eight-nation tournament.

Reuters - 13/12/2004

Fantastic
Dec 13th, 2004, 02:51 PM
Okay, so we put this down to the stupidity of the French officials rather than the fickleness of Tatiana Golovin and Richard Gasquet. Next time, check with your players before signing them up!

So from the French Open mixed doubles champions to the Wimbledon mixed doubles champions. While it may look like a huge step down on paper, Zimbabwe may not prove to be so bad. I think if Cara Black can overcome Michaella Krajicek, then she and brother Wayne have a very good chance in the mixed doubles. Wayne Black hasn't played singles in a while so he would probably lose to Peter Wessels. This could become a very interesting tie if it comes down to the mixed. Pity it won't draw a huge crowd because of the lack of exciting names, not that Golovin or Gasquet were familiar names to Perth people anyway.
