ugh, Paraguay once again blow their lead. Still, not a disappointing result ;)

Colombia squandered a hatful of chances before conceding a late equaliser in a 1-1 home draw with Paraguay in their World Cup qualifier on Saturday.
The Colombians missed an excellent opportunity to climb several places in the 10-nation South American group, which is now at the halfway mark, after letting their opponents off the hook.

Midfielder Aureliano Torres scored in the 78th minute to earn Paraguay a point which appeared beyond them when the home team dominated the first half and went ahead through Freddy Grisales.

The result left Colombia level with Bolivia and Peru on nine points at the bottom of the group. Paraguay, third at the start of the weekend, have 15 points and are on course for their third successive World Cup finals appearance.

Colombia went ahead in the 17th minute when Grisales crossed from the right, the ball deflecting off defender Paulo Da Silva and flying into the net.

The hosts looked almost certain to add to their goal total as they dominated the midfield and sliced through the Paraguay defence with their neat passing.

Juan Pablo Angel fired one chance left of the goal and another to the right in quick succession. Then Grisales sidefooted wide from the edge of the penalty area after a clever dummy by Frankie Oviedo.

The second half was a different story as Diego Gavilan replaced Angel Ortiz in the Paraguay midfield and the visitors began to create chances.

Carlos Paredes put one opportunity wide before Nelson Cuevas, who took a battering from the Colombia defenders, slipped past two opponents and pulled back from the byline for Torres to sweep the ball into the empty net.

Minutes earlier, Colombia coach Reinaldo Rueda had earned himself a deafening chorus of jeers by taking off Grisales, the team's best player.

Colombia attacked desperately for the last 10 minutes and were close to snatching a winner when Angel's effort was blocked at point-blank range by goalkeeper Justo Villar.
