Lost 3 and 2. Considering the opponent and the fact that she's still on the early stages of her comeback, this wasn't too bad. Hoping for a better draw next time.

She plays Palermo this week! R1 against Voracova. :yeah:
Jul 12th, 2010, 11:45 AM
Wouldn't it be nice if she'd win a match like that, against a top100 player...:hearts: But that's a bit too much to ask of Jelena at the moment. I'd even be happy with a set, eventhough Voracova has been losing to some "less than great" players not so long ago. I don't suppose there's a chance of a live stream (wishful thinking, I know)?
Jul 12th, 2010, 11:53 AM
She's gonna need some wins cause she has only 5 tournaments left to play with SR. I think it would have been better for her if she entered some strong challengers where she could actually win a match or two and get her ranking up.
Hope she can suprise Voracova. GL!
Jul 12th, 2010, 01:59 PM
she's been unlucky..in stuttgart she played sfar who had a great week and now she played szavay who won the tournament
Jul 13th, 2010, 09:50 AM
Jelena is also playing doubles today...Kostanic/Alves vs. Dentoni/Floris. Nice to see her trying out doubles as well, she was just as good there as she was in singles (best singles rank #32, doubles #30, both back in '04).
Jul 13th, 2010, 01:34 PM
Voracova seems to be blasting her off the court - Jelena about to serve to stay in the set at 0:5:sad: In the first 3 games she won just 4 points, so apart from the serve which seems to be of good precision (around 70%), her game is pretty much non-existant. The match started some 20 minutes ago.
Jul 13th, 2010, 01:52 PM
She won a game, but only after getting bageled in the 1st set. So it's 0:6, 1:1, Voracova on serve.
Jul 13th, 2010, 01:58 PM
Jelena breaks with her first break point of the match, but gets broken right back in the very next game, so it's back of level terms now - 2:2.
Jul 13th, 2010, 02:12 PM
No further breaks - 3:4, Jele to serve.
Jul 13th, 2010, 02:17 PM
64 minutes into the match, Voracova to serve for a win at 6:0, 5:3.
Jul 19th, 2010, 04:31 PM
Finally some luck with the draw for Jelena, she'll face (later today) Paszek in R1 of Portoroz. Paszek was in great form some 2-3 years ago when she was ranked at #35, but nowdays she's far from it at #218. Looking at her results this year, you can't not think that this is a chance for Jelena, cause Paszek had some pretty terrible losses to less than impressive opponents lately.
Jul 20th, 2010, 06:33 AM
Lost 5 & 2. This should be a definitive signal to Jelena that she should use her remaining SR chances for challengers, where she might actually make some wins.
Jul 20th, 2010, 10:14 AM
Surely, challengers. She should have played them earlier to get some matches and than use her SR for WTA tournaments. This way she has to do really good on next few tournaments or retire I'm afraid.
I'm sure she could even get some WCs for challengers.
Aug 20th, 2010, 04:49 PM
She'll give it another shot in New Haven qualies (using SR, of course), plays Vandeweghe in the opening match. It's really tough to expect anything here, honestly - hope I'm wrong.
Aug 20th, 2010, 09:03 PM
Big suprsie, she won 7-5 7-5! :bolt:
Aug 20th, 2010, 09:11 PM
 :worship: big congrats jelena, i totally forgot she will play us open .. keep going in nh and gl in ny :yeah:

Halleluja!:worship: Finally a win, and against quite an in-form player as well! I believe experience played a big role in this match, but it's still a great achievement for Jelena, cause it shows she's still got it. It would be so great to see her in main draws of wta events again.
Vinci will be tough, a top60 player who was even top40, their h2h is tied at 2:2, but 3 out of those 4 matches were played 5 or more years ago. Jelena did win their only hardcourt encounter, in qualies of Dubai back in '04. They're also tied at sets won, 5 each.
Aug 21st, 2010, 07:07 AM
Well done Jelena! :yeah:
Aug 26th, 2010, 04:44 PM
She drew a seed, and it is Peer! :help:
Aug 26th, 2010, 04:49 PM
Oh Lord, she really didn't deserve this:rolleyes: But then, this'll probably get televised(:D), I'm just not sure I want to see it...
Fingers crossed, give it a fight Jele:bounce:
Aug 26th, 2010, 05:30 PM
Would you believe I had a dream that Jelena won her R1 match?! :bounce:
But that was last night, before the draw was announced
Aug 29th, 2010, 09:46 PM
Jelena really doesn't have lucky with this year US Open draw. She paired up with Oprandi in doubles but they play against Wimbledon champions King/Shvedova!
Aug 30th, 2010, 07:06 AM
It sure is tough to expect anything, but even if she doesen't make it she'll benefit from this tournament a lot I think, cause she'll experience how top-level singles AND doubles tennis feels nowdays. It's a really unfortunate draw, especially with a partner who's never scraped top100 in doubles (Jelena was top30 and played QF here 2 years ago). But we can still hope for a miracle;)
P. S. Her singles ranking got a nice push this week, from 1033 to 871.
Aug 30th, 2010, 05:38 PM
Lost the set, but the scoreline is really decent (4:6).
Aug 31st, 2010, 09:12 AM
It's a reasonable scoreline, losing 4 & 5 to the 16th seed is no disgrace. At least she gave her opponent a good fight and kept it close in many of the Peer's service games. Well done Jelena, hoping for better luck with the draw next time:)
Aug 31st, 2010, 09:19 AM
Few last matches really look promissing! :yeah:
Sep 2nd, 2010, 08:27 AM
Plays doubles today, thrid match on court 12. Good luck!
