^ Bump

So I now hear that Jelena will be playing Fed Cup. Is she taking part just in that one tie or will she try to make a full comeback? Does anyone know her plans for 2010?

Jelena Kostanić played a beach-tennis event in Prague at the end of 2009 :o - which means she's fine ;)

Jan 11th, 2010, 01:28 AM
last year she said she intends to comeback full time. hopefully fed cup is the start

Apr 23rd, 2010, 07:35 PM
Did anyone else catch that Jelena is playing qualies in Stuttgart? She has a reasonably winnable first match, against Selima Sfar.

Good luck, Jelena, and welcome back!

Apr 23rd, 2010, 09:04 PM
yup, i saw her on list few weeks ago. gl

Apr 23rd, 2010, 10:10 PM
:woohoo: get her jele!

Apr 24th, 2010, 08:55 AM

she lost 63 26 75..not really good considering sfar defeated only one playe in 2010 and that's jurak . :help:
hope she's gonna find her form soon.

On the other hand, not terrible considering this was her first singles match in 15 months. She'll probably find her form after a few tournaments. It's just good to have her back.

Apr 25th, 2010, 07:35 AM
hope she will find her best form soon :yeah:

Apr 28th, 2010, 07:30 PM

she wont play until july

Apr 28th, 2010, 09:36 PM
^It doesn't sound good at all. In July Jelena will be 29 years old so she doesn't have a lot of time left...

Apr 29th, 2010, 10:23 PM
she wants to finish university. i think stuttgart was just a test run. she really didn't do that bad...sfar qualified and won a set vs. safarova before retiring

Jul 2nd, 2010, 09:56 PM
It seems she is back in main draw of Budapest for next week (using protected rank)! :yeah:

ma re
Jul 3rd, 2010, 06:30 AM
Great news! She did mention she'll continue with the tournaments in July.

Jul 3rd, 2010, 01:37 PM

Lost 3 and 2. Considering the opponent and the fact that she's still on the early stages of her comeback, this wasn't too bad. Hoping for a better draw next time.

She plays Palermo this week! R1 against Voracova. :yeah:

ma re
Jul 12th, 2010, 11:45 AM
Wouldn't it be nice if she'd win a match like that, against a top100 player...:hearts: But that's a bit too much to ask of Jelena at the moment. I'd even be happy with a set, eventhough Voracova has been losing to some "less than great" players not so long ago. I don't suppose there's a chance of a live stream (wishful thinking, I know)?

Jul 12th, 2010, 11:53 AM
She's gonna need some wins cause she has only 5 tournaments left to play with SR. I think it would have been better for her if she entered some strong challengers where she could actually win a match or two and get her ranking up.
Hope she can suprise Voracova. GL!

Jul 12th, 2010, 01:59 PM
she's been unlucky..in stuttgart she played sfar who had a great week and now she played szavay who won the tournament

ma re
Jul 13th, 2010, 09:50 AM
Jelena is also playing doubles today...Kostanic/Alves vs. Dentoni/Floris. Nice to see her trying out doubles as well, she was just as good there as she was in singles (best singles rank #32, doubles #30, both back in '04).

ma re
Jul 13th, 2010, 01:34 PM
Voracova seems to be blasting her off the court - Jelena about to serve to stay in the set at 0:5:sad: In the first 3 games she won just 4 points, so apart from the serve which seems to be of good precision (around 70%), her game is pretty much non-existant. The match started some 20 minutes ago.

ma re
Jul 13th, 2010, 01:52 PM
She won a game, but only after getting bageled in the 1st set. So it's 0:6, 1:1, Voracova on serve.

ma re
Jul 13th, 2010, 01:58 PM
Jelena breaks with her first break point of the match, but gets broken right back in the very next game, so it's back of level terms now - 2:2.

ma re
Jul 13th, 2010, 02:12 PM
No further breaks - 3:4, Jele to serve.

ma re
Jul 13th, 2010, 02:17 PM
64 minutes into the match, Voracova to serve for a win at 6:0, 5:3.

ma re
Jul 19th, 2010, 04:31 PM
Finally some luck with the draw for Jelena, she'll face (later today) Paszek in R1 of Portoroz. Paszek was in great form some 2-3 years ago when she was ranked at #35, but nowdays she's far from it at #218. Looking at her results this year, you can't not think that this is a chance for Jelena, cause Paszek had some pretty terrible losses to less than impressive opponents lately.

Fingers crossed!

ma re
Jul 20th, 2010, 06:33 AM
Lost 5 & 2. This should be a definitive signal to Jelena that she should use her remaining SR chances for challengers, where she might actually make some wins.

Jul 20th, 2010, 10:14 AM
Surely, challengers. She should have played them earlier to get some matches and than use her SR for WTA tournaments. This way she has to do really good on next few tournaments or retire I'm afraid.
I'm sure she could even get some WCs for challengers.

ma re
Aug 20th, 2010, 04:49 PM
She'll give it another shot in New Haven qualies (using SR, of course), plays Vandeweghe in the opening match. It's really tough to expect anything here, honestly - hope I'm wrong.

Good luck:wavey:

Halleluja!:worship: Finally a win, and against quite an in-form player as well! I believe experience played a big role in this match, but it's still a great achievement for Jelena, cause it shows she's still got it. It would be so great to see her in main draws of wta events again.

Vinci will be tough, a top60 player who was even top40, their h2h is tied at 2:2, but 3 out of those 4 matches were played 5 or more years ago. Jelena did win their only hardcourt encounter, in qualies of Dubai back in '04. They're also tied at sets won, 5 each.

Fingers crossed, give it a fight Jele:bounce:

Would you believe I had a dream that Jelena won her R1 match?! :bounce:

But that was last night, before the draw was announced

Aug 29th, 2010, 09:46 PM
Jelena really doesn't have lucky with this year US Open draw. She paired up with Oprandi in doubles but they play against Wimbledon champions King/Shvedova!

ma re
Aug 30th, 2010, 07:06 AM
It sure is tough to expect anything, but even if she doesen't make it she'll benefit from this tournament a lot I think, cause she'll experience how top-level singles AND doubles tennis feels nowdays. It's a really unfortunate draw, especially with a partner who's never scraped top100 in doubles (Jelena was top30 and played QF here 2 years ago). But we can still hope for a miracle;)

Ajmo Jele!

P. S. Her singles ranking got a nice push this week, from 1033 to 871.

ma re
Aug 30th, 2010, 05:38 PM
Lost the set, but the scoreline is really decent (4:6).

Fight Jelena:bounce:

ma re
Aug 31st, 2010, 09:12 AM
It's a reasonable scoreline, losing 4 & 5 to the 16th seed is no disgrace. At least she gave her opponent a good fight and kept it close in many of the Peer's service games. Well done Jelena, hoping for better luck with the draw next time:)

Aug 31st, 2010, 09:19 AM
