Hi all,
the good old Sascha is just back from Hasselt.
I already wrote a mail to my borther and will make a summary now.
I did not expect Kim Clijsters to be that strong back. She looked a bit stronger to me than before (gained weight IMO) and her strengths are now serve and backhand. I thought that Maleeva could win because her BH is the better shot and Kim's might be rusty, but it was not like that.
Kim kept maleeva under pressure with her serve, too. she hit an ace on her setpoint and Maggie managed to come back sometimes from 00-40 to deuces and BP's, but simply made way too many errors, too. The Bulgarian tried to mix it up, but was not as powerful as I saw her this year. IMO both can have a good indoor season, really. Kim was better in set 1 (beginning) and end of set 2, in the time between Maleeva was on an equal level. After not winning Clijster's service game at 3-2 up, she made some stupid errors and Kim was then experienced enough to win.
So all in all Kim was really good and might not face another challenge her, becuase all other players are not really Indoor specialists. Maleeva was doing OK, but needs to focuse more in important situations and must take advantage when she comes back from 00-40 and is close to break,. becuase otherwise the opponent builds up confidence and is able to break her then which is exactly what happened today.

Yes, I always do.

Maggie was doing OK, she could have been much better honestly. The Antwerp QF was way better.

Yeah, I was there too and I completely agree, Clijsters was really good considering she'd been out for several months. I still found it enjoyable watching, some up and downs with (almost) the whole public clapping for Kim

You were there too???

Idd, Kim's level is already pretty good considering the lay off. Kim's first serve was not on a high, but her second serve is still so strong to win easy points... Maleeva was doing ok, but Kim was never in danger imo. Her FH was much better than wednesday and her BH is so strong :D Later on I saw Bovina vs Schiavone... Bovina lacks movement....Kim has the edge tomorrow :)

Nice report.
I predicted a Kim win here. It's good news to see top players healthy and playing well.

I saw Clijsters too yesterday ( I went together with Geoffry  ) and I must say I was impressed by how well she played, considering how long she was out. Most of the time she had no problem at all with Maleeva and it was nice to cheer her on. (To bad she didn't gave me a signature though  ) I really hope she wins the tournament :yeah:
Go Kimmie! :woohoo:
