Lindsay and Amelie have already made it. Who else will be in the top 8 by the end of the year.

I think Henin-Hardenne, Myskina, Dementieva and Kuznetsova will definetly be there.

Don't know who'll make it between Capriati, Serena, Sharapova and Venus who are ranked 7-10 respectively.

I hope Jen and Venus make it. I think Jen and Serena will though. And Maria certainly deserves to be there on her Wimby title alone.

It'd be weird not have Maria there and the other three GS winners to be present...

Well if she hasn't accumulated enough points in the other events, then she doesn't deserve to be there on her Wimbledon title alone.

Don't forget that Zvonareva has a good chance to make it to LA as well. And Capriati has NEVER done particularly well in the fall indoor circuit. I think Serena will make it, but the last spot is up for grabs for those other four (or more) players.

I forgot Vera. I just read it off the WTA homepage where they only list the top ten.

I've pretty much written off Vera's chances of making the YEC this year. She has too many points to defend next month.

Making it to YEC has nothing to do with how many points you are defending :)

Maria will be going, I can garantee that. Whether she gets the points or the YEC let her in because of a special reason, i don't know but she will be in the end of year championships.

Making it to YEC has nothing to do with how many points you are defending :)Yes, but I'm talking about mentally. If those points come off and she drops behind Petrova, her head might be a mess like Myskina's after the Olympics. Dropping back to the 6th ranked Russian will effect her for the rest of the season, which may determine whether or not she can pick up enough points to make the YEC. More often than not, Vera's head, and not her general form, governs whether or not she will play well in big tournaments :o. Besides, she is 450 points behind the 8th placed Capriati, and I think that's too big an ask

The points to qualify this year will probably be somewhere along 2500 points.
Well, since Maria Sharapova wants money more, she probably wont qualify by winning small events.
And if Venus is playing rarely in the fall, she will probably once again not qualify.
But her sister will probably qualify since she does not mind playing indoor tournaments.

So the top 6 currently has a lead of 400 points and Elena Dementieva will qualify going into her favourite surface.
Serena will probably follow. Then one of Jennifer or Maria should qualify, either Maria will be the first one probably in history to not qualify YEC as a slam winner, or Jen will not be able to defend the finalist points to fall out of top 10. Last year was fun to see who can pass Venus, this year, it'll even be more exciting.

How many more tournements is Maria allowed with that age rule thing.

What are you talking about

You either qualify or you don't, no special reasoning

Actually since WTA is adapting ATP format, it is easy to mix up their formats. There is a difference between WTA and ATP though, that is ATP does reserve the 8th spot for slam winner wildcard, but WTA is not doing that, or they probably did not expect this could possibly happen on women's side.

I heard from quite a lot of people that under special circumstances they can let a player in instead of another.

Maybe it could be justified if they allowed Maria in. She hasn't been able to play as much because of the age rule and she did win one of this years slams.

However Maria seems to have played alot of lower tier tournements so maybe if she'd played more tier I and II events instead of all those tier III's her ranking might be higher.

If they do have a rule, I think they should say so at the beginning of the season and not at the end. It's unfair to say to Jen/Serena/Venus/whoever else, you finished number 8 but we'd prefer Maria. Don't really think it'll happen.

Ah yes, now i remember about Gaudio. But still, they should either have a rule or not, shouldn't be up in the air. So i assume Sharapova would only qualify with the points?

I think that Davenport, Mauresmo, Kuznetsova, Myskina, Henin and Dementieva will be joined by Serena and Sharapova. I honestly believe Venus has a shot to qualify ONLY if she wins Zurich (that will be tough considering the GREAT draw). If she wins, then she's got the 8th spot. However, Sharapova, with a solid fall season could edge Venus out. I think the most competive spot is the 8th between Sharapova, Venus, Jennifer Crapriati, and Zvonareva. If either Venus or Sharapova make it, they'll make it to the semis along with Justine, Lindsay and Serena.
