I don't know if it's true but.... I found some sources here........

http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/WinnipegSun/Sports/2004/09/18/633720.html

From Bill Scheft of Sports Illustrated: "(Maria) Sharapova is coming out with her own signature line of perfume. I have no idea what it smells like, but I guarantee the fragrance will last three years longer than the Anna Kournikova perfume."

NEW YORK -- For those who want to hit like Maria Sharapova, her racket -- The Turbo Shark MP -- went on sale Wednesday. For those who want to smell like Maria Sharapova, well, that's coming soon.

An informed source told ESPN.com that Sharapova will soon be unveiling a fragrance line. When reached early Thursday morning, Sharapova's agent Max Eisenbud declined to comment.

Sharapova has clearly become the marketing darling of the tennis world since winning Wimbledon. At the U.S. Open, Nike has been selling the outfits she is wearing at the gift shops and posters of her are all over Prince's on-site display.

However, her recent marketing deals -- including a three-year deal with Motorola that sources say is worth more than $1 million per year and now the fragrance -- have pointed to the fact that the 17-year-old Russian beauty is already on her way to transcending the sport.

Inking out-of-sport endorsements are usually reserved for the elite, but at No. 7 in the world, the buzz is building. Sharapova won her first-round U.S. Open match in three sets on Tuesday night and also won her first-round mixed doubles match, with Max Miryni, in front of a big crowd on Wednesday.

Sharapova wouldn't be setting a precedent in debuting her own line of scented products.

None other than NBA superstar Michael Jordan debuted a cologne in 1996. Sales reportedly reached $130 million in the product's first two years on the market. The NBA and the NFL have also had league-licensed scents on the market.

09/03/2004 .....Ode De Sharapova

The other day I read that tennis star Maria Sharapova is gonna have her own fragrance, and that got me to thinking...

Whole Script

There ain't no doubt that Wimbledon Champion Maria Sharapova is a real looker. In fact, in my humble opinion, she makes her Russian tennis compatriot Anna Kornikova look like she been rode hard and put up wet.

Well, now Sharapova is starting to face the rewards of being a tennis star and a raving beauty. The tool of her trade, a racquet called The Turbo Shark MP, is selling like hotcakes, and she's signed a million-dollar endorsement deal with Motorola. Now Sharapova's gonna have her own fragrance.

Sharapova ain't the first athlete to inspire a perfume. Michael Jordan launched a cologne in 1996. Sales reached $130 million. And the NBA and NFL both have officially-licensed scents.

I ain't a cologne-wearer myself. The stuff makes my eyes water and leads to a sneezing fit. And I don't understand how an athlete can inspire a scent. What's the Maria Sharapova perfume gonna smell like – sweaty tennis shoes?

If I was ever to inspire a scent myself, I believe it would be a combination of alfalfa hay and a good vinegar-based barbecue sauce.

Leonard's Loser – All them suckers that are gonna buy Ode De Sharapova.

That's funny...

lol And I thought Jordan's cologne sucked. I even remember Conan O'Brien's
"In the year 2000" skit dissing it.

It does kinda make you wonder if she's going too far, but the results are there, or have been so...

The same thing they done to ANNA, turn her into a marketing hot dog, instead of a tennis player.

There goes the next 10 grand slams out the window for Maria. Hello 2nd round paychecks, goodbye grand slam trophies. :haha:

I had my own fragrance line once. It was called Pam Pong. Funnily enough only sold one bottle and that was the one my mom got.

Oh well...As long as Maria spends no more than 1 minute per year on this fragrance thing...I don't mind...

But I'm afraid that won't happen............

I don't think she will win more than perhaps 2 more slams. Maximum.
She is perhaps the most overrated player since Sabatini.

She had ONE great tournament.
Like the Greek national soccer team at this summer's EURO.

Make no mistake, I like her, she is a nice and beautiful girl.

why are u comparing football and tennis? football is all about teamwork, whereas tennis is about INDIVIDUAL ability. Compare her to another tennis player next time, if you must.

Exactly what they did to Anna. Never mind, it's another million or so dollars in the bank so who are we to judge.

You think she wants to do otherwise? :cuckoo: She's in it for the dough too.

Anyway, why is this big news? The big news would be: who doesn't have their own fragrance?

She should be earning the dough on the court. Not selling perfume.

Weingartner. She defeated Jen in AO. But that was a glitch in the system, so to speak. Its probability of happening again is unlikely.

well i can't see how having a fragrance line can have a bad effect on your tennis. Floating an interior design company or doing itsy-bitsy parts in boring shows( ok call it "acting" if you want) can and we have all seen the proof this year. What say bandabou ?

The question is in what way it will distract her from tennis...

A fragrance line doesn't have to harm her tennis in principle of course...But it will when she has to spend loads of time on that...

I hope IMG is sensible enough to understand that on the long term good tennis results will pay off more than having profit on the short term by a fragrance line...

Not being sarcastic....the girl is russian. She has the nationality, she speaks the language ( I heard?!), so sheīs russian....thing is that she doesnīt ACT russian most of the time.

Although it for sure would help make her more russian if she would actually VISIT the country once in a while.

Although it for sure would help make her more russian if she would actually VISIT the country once in a while. Yes, she speaks Russian...I've seen several interviews with her in Russian...

And yes, she visits Russia once in a while...She has a busy schedule so it's not too odd she doesn't visit Russia very regular...I'm not saying that's a good thing, but it's the way it is...

Anyway...For me personally, when it comes to being ... or not, it depends on what YOU think you are...Not just in this case, but in general...

Apparently this storoy is true.

You are correct, Frank. If she falls down in the rankins a la Anna, even with the Wimbledon title, IMG and all thses companies who are offering here contract are going to look pretty stupid.

It would be like selling your company after only a couple of months for a small amount of money while you know that with a little bit more patience and time it can become the largest company in the world that will be worth many times more than the amount you sold it for...

Maybe not the best comparison...But I think you get my point...;)

All I know is, if the USO was any indication, some of these companies will be rethinking what they did this time next year.

IMG over exposed Anna Kournikova at a young age and they are doing the same with Maria Sharapova. :( Why on earth does she need to have her own fragrance at age 17? Can't IMG wait until she does more great things on the tennis court before trying to make her the female Michael Jordan?

You would think, but if she can't start winning bigger titles (i.e Tier I or Tier II), they will start asking questions. In fact, some companies have stayed away from her because they said unlike the Williams sisters, other than her Grand Slam wim, she has done little in her career.

her career has only just started, she's done more so far in her career than any other 17 year old. How many Grand Slams do you expect a 17 year old to win, she won't even be 18 for quite a while yet.

that was quite a long time ago. I was talking about currently, maybe 1 or 2 years ago. Cos the game has moved forward a lot since Seles and Hingis.
