I need travel advice. I'm planning a trip to Spain and Morocco in December. One week in Marrakesh and one week in Marbella. I have been looking at Villa rentals in Marbella and I just need some advice on what the best condo properties are. I'm just afraid to get there and find out that I have rented a shit hole.

Also can anyone recommend a hotel in Marrakesh...I will be taking the ferry from Algeciras to Tangiers and then getting on the train...should be interesting.

Marakesh

I would love to go there. There was a Hitchcock (?) movie set there once ... and I just always remembered it ...

Just out of interest why did you choose Marbella? I went there and it seemed like it's basically a pretty unattractive place with very little to offer except sun and sand. Which you can get in a lot of places. Expensive too. I'm not saying you can't enjoy a holiday there but it ain't what I'd choose. Also the transport is pretty crap down that way. Personally I don't really feel that the Costa Del Sol is one of Spain's nicer attractions. But, as they say, whatever turns ya on...

Was in Marrakesh about 8 years ago.....
Can't help with hotel recommendations...but I can tell you to avoid the GRAND HOTEL TAZI...truly awful, despite reasonable reviews in many travel guides. Great location in the medina and a short walk to Djemaa El Fna Square ...but incredibly noisy and a general unsecure feeling...its only saving grace was the swimming pool out back....
We were there for 3 or 4 nights....but if I had been travelling alone I would not stayed there at all.

I would suggest paying a little bit more than you originally planned and stay in some comfort.

Be very careful using hotel phones....as the charges are mysterious at best!

A tip...be careful eating any salads...in fact any uncooked food. As a general travel rule it is sound advice, but even more so in Morocco.

I am unsure how extensively you have travelled....so be prepared for the many men who will approach you wanting to be your travel guide for the day...avoid them politely and confidently.

Sorry for the negatives....I did enjoy my time in Morocco. I was there for about 4 weeks....started in Tangiers, then on to Marrakesh, Fez, up into the mountains to a gorgeous little village called Chefchauan and down to Assila before heading back to Spain.

You will enjoy Marrakesh I am sure...Djemaa El Fna Square is amazing at night. The atmosphere is intoxitcating and overwhelming.

Enjoy. x

I don't want to do too much trekking after Marrakech, so I decided to just rent a place and relax for the week...I'm not committed to Marbella...its was just one of the towns near Algeciras that seemed nice, if you have a better suggestion, I'm open...what about Seville, Granada or Malaga
