Sorry to start this off on a critical note, but am I the only one who wanted to puke listening to Hal Sutton's address at the opening ceremony?

How the fuck do you manage to turn a golf competition into something about "protecting American freedoms". Yoo hoo Hal, its a GAME involving hitting a little ball around fields with little holes in them!

For christ's sake, when are we going to get some rest from all of this rhetoric, it's getting incredibly boring.

I managed to miss the opening ceremony, but I did see the bit where Donald Trump was wheeled out for some reason...I swiftly turned over.

I have a feeling in my bones that this will be the US of A's year...I think they are a bit more up for battle, their patriotic juices are flowing, which with the addition of a pumped up, potentially hostile crowd, will give them the cup.

But regardless...GO EUROPE! :)

I just hope the American public behave themselves and don't jeer the Europeans as they are custom too........fine cheer your team, but be sporting and don't jeer.......Colin Montgomerie was booed slightly at the beginning....but he has a history with America......most were fine........but 'some' Americans can turn bitter and nasty

Monty and Harrington in the bunkers straight off
Mickelson & Woods in the crowd
LOL!

I'm American, but I'm cheering for the Europeans. As if I have to endure another year of Tiger Woods maddness I'm going to scream. Isn't Woods washed up now? I certainly hope.

In all honesty you're right Hurley. The Europeans are more likeable. :o and they're much more relaxed than the American golfers who should be ashamed at their play. They just folded in the crunch. :o :o :o I'm still rooting for the Team USA but they honestly have little to no chance today.

Hopefully we'll have a new captain next time. Hal is absolutely horrible. What was he thinking about with those doubles pairings? The singles seems a little more reasonable putting Tiger and Phil to leadoff but the match is already lost.
And by the way, where is Fred Couples and why isn't he on the team? He would have added a little more personality and game.

that's not true, in almost all latinoamerica Baseball is very popular and the best players are from the caribbean (Dominican Rep. Cuba, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, etc)
its also very popular in asia.

BTW some curious fact... the baseball is the "american pass time", yet mostly the historic leaders of the "left" in america latina were(are) baseball fans:Fidel Castro, Daniel Ortega, Hugo Chávez, Subcomandante Marcos, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, etc.

I don't think the US would want any help from Canada or Mexico. Mike Weir? Whoopitydamndoo.

The US could and would kill each of the countries from Europe one on one but since they did that to the Brits in the past they changed the rules. Its alright though, the Americans still have the better golfers. The Brits, eh excuse me, the Europeans just do better in the bullshit that transpires on the first two days.

I loved how baseball was brought up too. Consider the fact that it was a bunch of minor leaguers who haven't played together before going against teams that do play together and the very stupid qualifying rules limiting the teams from each region that can qualify and you get the result that happened. You take the best players from the US and let them play together for at least a month and they would kill any team in the world with the possible exception of the Dominican Republic team. Same goes for basketball.

4 1/2 Sergio and Westwood, 4 Harrington, 3 1/2 Clarke, 3 Montgomerie

Those who don't know the scoring, some of those points will have been in pairs, where if they won, both players credited with a point :), so the total will have been more than the 18 1/2 Europe won.

For US Kenny Perry, played 2 lost 2 , Fred Funk, played 3 Lost 3. Chris Di Marco top scored with 2 1/2

Doesn't matter, Tiger and Phil can take comfort in their boatloads of money and their extremely hot significant others. Go take a look at population sizes, then compare your baseball team to the Domincan Republic......doesn't look quite so good then does it

If the US are so good, you should be beating anyone, regardless, instead of being slaughtered.

As for the Americans having only Americans...........Navratilova is Czech............did you complain? Doubt it.......and Europe is Europe because in Golf, There is the American Tour and The European Tour......not the British one :)

Population size doesn't matter. A much higher percentage of kids in the Dominican play baseball than their American counterparts.

The US does beat everyone in the total medal standings in the Olympics. They can't be expected to win every sport every time they play it.

As for Martina, I didn't complain nor did I celebrate. I don't give a shit about her but if someone who hails from another country wants to gain US citizenship then more power to them. It is their decision to then play for the greatest country in the world.

Anyway, I love the strong anti-US sentiment. Its awesome. By all means, keep it up considering the fact that if it wasn't for the US I would shudder to think where we would all be right now.

I got a little too patriotic there but since I just woke up:

I don't believe I ever said European countries are worthless, I was just laughing at them having to play as a team to beat the US. It doesn't matter though since the US has better golfers and should be able to beat the rest of the world by itself. It didn't, so congrats to the Europeans.

I am much more anti-anti-American than I am anti-Europe. The great amount of anti-US propaganda in the rest of the world disturbes me to no end so sometimes I am forced to overcompensate.
