Discussion Topic: Older Women Younger Men! Pro's & Con!

We had this discussion in my office today, not sure if this was topic address on the board before but I thought some people might be interested in expressing an opinion.

Interestingly, most of the women were the ones who argued that older women should not date younger men. They claimed it was nasty and goes against the grain. My take on it was if two consulting adults ( neither of them predators) decided to get together and they are happy and fulfilled who am I to say that their love is wrong simply because one is older or younger than the other. (I am not talking about underage men and women here either). Why is it acceptable for men like Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, Donald Trump and so on..... be able to date women half their age but it is not ok for women like Demi Moore & Julianne Moore to do the same?

it's just not common. if this goes on for another couple of decades, then it won't seem so unusual. i'll admit that it gives me pause to see an older woman with a younger man. but i tend to think the same as when i see it reversed, "he/she is in it for the money!"

but like you say, if it's two consenting adults, have at it :)

Any relationship with a big age difference has its own problems. My mom is married to a man who is 20 years younger than her, and they have massive problems, but seem to love each other in their own sick way. So who knows? As long as they are consenting adults, that is all that matters.

I still think the old paradigm of the older man/father figure--younger woman/student is the one that most people subscribe to and that is why older women-younger men is still taboo to some. I feel that most people look at older women/mother figure--younger men/child and that is why they have a problem with it. Besides, men just can't help themselves, can they?:rolleyes:

after i broke up with my ex boyfriend [who is six years my senior, 27] he started dating some lady at his work who is 37 and has two children.

he told me that older women are no better than the younger ones. if anything, they are worse. ha.

mostly if i was single, i probably would prefer a woman a few years older than me but not more or a woman say not more than 5 years younger than me. If shes too much older than me, she wont be able to run into the bathroom when its time to dinner to get my teeth when shes 86. for dating it doesnt really matter but for permanent relationships, theirs practicalities to consider.
