There are a couple of pictures of Venus at a Will and Grace CD Launchat the bottom of the post. Do we like the 1920s style hair? I like it :)

Also there was a tiny article in the Daily Mirror today. It is not much but Venus is mentioned -

There was a time when Naomi Campbell was the most sought-after catwalk queen in the world. Not any more, it seems.

Things weren't going her way at last night World Music Awards in Las Vegas, where she presented a gong. Spies tell us Naomi was allocated a seat in the fourth row, the lowest celeb level. An insider said : "That's cattle class as far as stars are concerned. At this sort of ceremony it's all about where you sit. Naomi was fuming, especially as rival Heidi Klum was seated in the front row with boyfriend Seal and Venus Williams" Ouch. (That 'Ouch' was in the article by the way!)

I wonder if Serena was there too. No pictures anyway.

Serena probably was not there because she has been in NY all week attending Fashion Week and going to movie premiers.

hell yea! i love the NE, love finding out what's NOT true with the entertainment world :bounce:

And the NE is the best at finding the worst pictures possible of the celebs they invent, I mean, write stories about. A friend of mine once saw a picture of Celine Dion in the NE and thought she was a transvestite.

Does anyone remember TENNIS magazine doing an English tabloid-style take on Wimbledon a few years ago? The stuff they came up with was hysterical. Here's a sample:

"DNA Shocker: Williams sisters are not really sisters!!!"

"Steffi says Andre likes to wear pantyhose in bed. Hingis calls him 'half a man'"

"Daddy Dearest: Six of the top 10 women players say Dr.J is their father"

"Rafter says wearing sun cream made him impotent. Hingis calls him 'half a man'"

And my absolute favourite:
"Tim Henman's shocking confession: 'Ten year addiction to fish and chips nearly ruined my career.'" -- This one's so true to the style of the English tabs  :worship:

They keep telling me that tennis is their #1 priority, but they keep showing me otherwise. I truly believe that their best is THE best, but I haven't seen their best since Wimbledon '03, and I'm tired of it.

"But they've been injured. What do you expect?"

I expect them to at least work as hard as they did to get to the top in the first place, and I don't think they are. If being #1 again isn't as important to them anymore, that's their business, but don't lie to me by saying it is.

I'm not concerned with Sharapova. I'm concerned with Venus and Serena reclaiming what I consider to be their rightful place on top of the rankings, which will never happen if they continue with their current course of action. The sisters need to realize that they can no longer get away with being part-time players. ;)

On the one side is tennis (their job), and on the other is 'the rest of Life'. If they concentrate too hard on either side. It isn't healthy to concentrate too much on one side without balancing the other. They work hard, so why not play just as hard?

It appears to me as if their partying is interfering with their tennis, and I don't like that. I'd rather they be on top of the rankings (Venus #1, of course) with a limited social schedule. ;)

If they don't want to be serious about tennis, that's okay but they should at least stop putting on the pathetic shows they've been putting on this year. It's fun being famous and mingling with stars but both Venus and Serena should realize that, without tennis, none of these stars would care a fig about them.

They had a tough year last year and people seem to forget this. Sheesh when Seles was out with that stabbing she didn't get this sort of treatment. Give V@S a break.

They will be back.

I think, Venus and Serena have always been able to balance tennis with fashion, movies, etc. However, I think because they are struggling this year, they might want to focus more on tennis. Get back on track on the tennis court, then start partying after you are now on top.

My motto as a student is study hard, and party hard. I think they should focus on Tennis now, and then after a couple more slams victory, do the fashion etc. Their tennis career is not going to last long, but the interior design, movies and their celebrity will be there, when they quit.

I agree that they have made a major stride in their tennis career, but I think Serena and Venus can do more to put themselves in the tennis history books.

Darrin, a lot of folks feel the way you do but are too scared of the backlash to say so. However I don't really think this thread is the appropriate place for it.

I'd like to see them as frequently on the court and in the winner's circle as they are on the party scene, but I nor anyone else can tell them what to do and we can't take their careers more seriously than they do. They're doing what they want; learn to deal with it or you'll be venting like this for a long time most likely.

The hairstyle looks cute on Venus but I wonder if it's a wig? I really loved her hair at the Open this year. I like the fact that they have a social life and they're lucky they're great players because those poor souls on the challenger circuit don't have the luxury of going to movie premieres and fashion shows.

Love the hair. Too much makeup and the outfit is a little casual. You can really see the family resemblance in both pictures.

DB, let me explain something to you

in 2000 and 2001 when V was dominating, she was full time in school
in 2002 when Serena was dominating, she was ALREADY acting.

So there's no problem. Actually I think its better for their tennis. If they just hit balls all day they'll get bored. And as fans we should cheer them in all their endeavors, not just tennis.

As for the hair, V looks cute but I think she looks better w/ longer hair.

This is 2004, not 2000-02. Venus and Serena will not get back to the top being part-time players. I'm all for them doing other things as long as they don't get in the way of the tennis, and since they're #10 and #12 on the computer, I have to believe that their other things are getting in the way of their tennis. There'll be plenty of time for those other endeavors after they retire; they didn't have to get into that stuff now.

DB, are you a fan of the sisters, or their results? :tape:

Look dude, I wish Venus would be winning all day long too, but I just want em to be happy.

If they want to go to Will & Grace premires and settle for SF finishes, well then so be it.
We already had a great time for 3 years, now its someone else's turn.

I love V&S because of their character, not their trophy case

Helen cant you hook them up? I mean you do have unlimited tickets as an oscar winner right?
Those rat bastards! I can't even get lower-tiered seats now. The Oscars are as bad as the grimiest Hollywood producer. Spring's first green is gold all right, and I'm like the frozen leaf-bare tree in the dead of winter! Rotten shits! Nope, once you're about 10 years out from a win, any win, you're still Hollywood royalty, and a huge superstar, but you can't get decent Oscar tickets. They only care about recent winners and people who could still win, not washed up old broads like me. Queen was just nominated and is still "hot" so the sisters have better chances for prime seats if they keep friendly with Queen.

Helen Lawson
Sep 17th, 2004, 11:09 PM
But I had my time on the top with front row seats, and let's face it, the RKO Pantages Theatre was THEE place to win, so I'm not bitter.
