Who would you say has had a better year?

Jen leads h2h 3-1, Serena has won a title, got to a slam final, while Jen has one final, 2 slam semis.

What do you think?

Only thing Jennifer has going for her is that winning h2h against Serena...but for the rest itīs obvious: Serena has one title and two other finals..

By who's standards? Their invidiual? I think Jen has had a better year, Serena has had a decent one for your regular player, but for Serena, this year has kinda sucked.

Both had a pretty good year, but not as great as they are capable of. One of them should have played the US Open final. Serena would have killed that Dementieva "serve" and Jennifer should have.

I think Jennifer overall.

Jen, she been one of the only consistent playesr in the slams this year...

Its all about the slams, as everyone points out when someone wins one.

for themselves?

Serena's year hasn't been great for her. but she has a title and a slam final.
Jen has done exactly what she's done for the past 2 years.

if it's all about slams, then doesn't a final beat a semi?

Mase

Its about consistency. She consistenly got further than Serena, by beating her.

For Serena this year sucked...only one title and nearly 7 months now without a title. For Jennifer...itīs her usual stuff. Consistent at most tournaments but no titles to show for it.

exactly my point. slam final and one title...really bad for Serena
semis and quarters of tournaments...good for Jen

Serena. Capriati lost to Myskina and Dementieva in sucky, aweful chokefests. Capriati has lost to Elena Likhovtseva, Nathalie Dechy, Eleni Danilidou, and Petra Mandula (maybe others?) this year. Serena's worst loss was to Nadia Petrova. There is a fairly sizeable difference between Petra Mandula and Nadia Petrova:o . Also, even when Jennifer has been playing her best tennis of the year, she hasn't consistently beaten any top players other than Serena. She had matchpoints on Mauresmo and couldn't close it out, she commited 50 UFEs in a 2-6; 2-6 loss to Myskina, and she lost to Elena Dementieva at the US Open, Capriati's home court, after twice serving for the match. Capriati's year has sucked by anyone's standards, and she will eventually pay for it by not making the YEC. She is done with winning majors, whether I like to say it or not. Same with LD, but that has to do with injuries, not the lack of game/mental toughness.

Serena has had a decent year. One major final and two quarter-final losses to one person isn't bad at all. Also, Serena has two problems this year: beating Jennifer Capriati and winning finals. Oh wow she beat Elena Dementieva in the finals of Miami. So does everyone else who faces Elena in an important match. Serena will, I believe, win between 3 and 6 more grand slams, starting with Wimbledon or the US Open next year, assuming she stays injury free.

Jen will make the YEC. She's ahead of Sharapova and the Williams sisters. Maria can't play that much because of her age. And, Serena and Venus will think up an injury excuse and will play roughly 2-3 tournements before the YEC

Jen had a better year than Serena?

Serena actually WON A TITLE.
SERENA WAS ACTUALLY IN A slam final.
Serena only lost to QUALITY PLAYERS.
Serena is 32-6. Jen is 28-11.

Come on, Be serious.

Yeah becuase Maria has been teh beacon of consistencey...

In the final in Rome Jen lost to Momo, who is now number one.
She lost to Myskina who went on to win the title.
She lost to Dementevia who was in 2 slam finals, which is one more than Serena

Where's the lack of Quality??

Cmon now, be serious.

Do you call losing to Petrova losing to a QUALITY player? Please.

Again neither player have had a good year by any means.

Both have been unremarkable as far as their previous years on tour.... just based on H2H, Jen has been a little more consistent and the better of these two players. Throw in other names, and neither's year would be considered "good" on any level.

Apart of petrova, Serena only lost to real quality worldclass players. Capriati lost to some(more than 1) non-amazing players.

Good lord, you are delusional or your tennis knowledge does not stem past Jen. Serena's only iffy loss is to Petrova, she has only lost this year to Nadia, Jennifer, Maria, and Lindsay. 6 losses in all.

Jen has lost to Danilidou twice, Mandula, Likhovtseva, and Nathalie Dechy. Again, be serious. And Jen still has not won a title in over a year.

Jennifer and Serena were pretty crap this year, and I think at least one of them will have an even worse 2005. Jennifer's counterpunch no longer wins her the big matches, and Serena needs more variety or her best form of the past, if they want to win. In case these two haven't noticed, tennis is evolving and if they don't do something fast, they will be lucky to be top15-20. I wish they step it up, tennis needs them ;)

the only really good player Serena has lost this year to is Lindsay </stiring pot> j/k

but really....28-11? it may be good for Jennifer but i'd be mad if Serena had that.

Again neither player have had a good year by any means. Serena, coming off an 8 month layoff from major surgery, comes back, wins a Super Tier 1, makes it to at least the quarterfinals of every tournament she has played in, makes it to the quarterfinals of two slams and the final of one, has a positive record against Top 10 players, and shes not had a good year? WTF?http://wtaworld.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Based on standards and ability, Serena did not have a good year. So in that sense Jen gets it

Um, how can you guys say Jen? Serena won a title this year and got to a grand slam final. She also didn't lose before the quarterfinal (aside from a walkover) in any tournament.

Jen didn't win any titles and got to two semi-finals.

Wow! This sure is never going to end. We are going to end up being enemies forever.

Anyways, I think both players had about the same type of year. Both did well at times but then there were times they didnt do as well.

Plus, I think it is hard to compare, b/c some tournaments had different players/competition. Therefore, the results could have been totally different. In other words, it is hard to say who had a better year!

All in all....the russians had the best year!!!!

Jen has the h2h, but that is just it....Jen hasnīt been able to translate all those wins into titles. Come on, for a top 10 player you canīt be having a good year without the title to prove it.

I think over all Jen may have had a little better year. What is she? like 28 or 29? That's getting up there in tennis years.

Serena couldn't have had a great year not winning the way she's used to. I don't follow Jennifer so I can't say if this year is normal for her.
