Who would you prefer?

There are lots of people who aren't satisfied with Amelie's placement as the number 1 player in the world because she hasn't won a GS. Would those people prefer to have Sveta, Maria, Anastasia, or Justine to be number 1 instead? I understand that there is something particularly wrong with the ranking system because it seems to value quantity over quality, but then who would you like to see as number 1? Who this year actually played like the number 1 player? Would you prefer Sveta to be the number 1 player? She is afterall a GS winner and so are Maria and Anastasia. But none of them ever held that number 1 position (and IMO do not deserve to any more than some people's resistence to accept Amelie as the #1 player).

Who would you actually want to rest on the Top spot at the end of the year? In a year where noone has played like THE TOP PLAYER?

I think Justine wins this...she has the major, she has the tier I title and she has olympic gold and she has the winning h2h against the top player....those are some serious credentials.

Mauresmo deserves the # 1 position. Whoever is the # 1 deserves it. I don't think that being the # 1 (most regular) player and "the best" player are necessarily the same thing though. Justine Henin has been the best player in my opinion. One Slam + an Olympic gold beating both another Slam champion (Myskina) and the # 1 player.
