Angelina Jolie doesn't believe in tipping waiters!
London | August 16, 2004 5:02:05 PM IST

Angelina Jolie left waiters at a posh Liverpool restaurant disappointed after she left nothing as a tip.

According to The Mirror, Jolie spent 60 pounds on a two-course meal at the Schmooze bar in Wavertree with her pal Eunice Hothart and four burly minders.

"Angelina came into the restaurant for a meal with Eunice, who is one of our regulars. She was very quiet and polite and was perfectly nice to a a man who asked for her autograph. We are used to seeing D-list celebs in here, like Hollyoaks actors, but we were stunned when Angelina walked in," manager Andrew Hurman was quoted as saying.

"When she left we cleared the tables and we were expecting a Hollywood blockbuster-sized tip. But there was nothing - not even a measly pound coin - left by either of them. They are both bsolutely minted. I can't believe they were so stingy," he added. (ANI)

That's just shameful. If you got the dough you need to tip. She's giving us celebs a bad name.

Well, you have to think thou Sal, what kind of a place was she dining at. I mean after all they said they were just used to getting D-List Celbs. And who in the hell is Eunice Hothart?

If I was famous, I doubt I'd tip. Hell I hear the way it works in Hollywood and around the world is like this, you go in, they give you free shit and are happy you even visited there. The fact she ate there will bring dozens of Angelina Fans to the place to eat, so trust me, she done her fair share.

Well, when I get free meals from restaurants I always leave a big tip that would be enough to cover the cost of the meal. I don't want bad press like this. Sally has an image to uphold.

Anyway Angelina has like a gazillion dollars.

I let the man tip. I never told Jess or Floyd how much to tip.

But I hear Angelina isn't much sporting around for a man these days, so I wonder who leaves the tip. Maybe Eunice was supposed to leave one and forgot?

Anyway, Angelina let her lil Boy become Lil Boy Blue.

If Sally doens't have Dr Rader around to leave the tip she gets one of her people in her massive entourage to leave it.

Well, when I'm in the US I always tip cause the servers depend more on tips to survive than their actual wage. But in the UK... waiters get minimum wage... They're making as much as I make on my weekend job... probably more, so why should I tip them?

True, and Diva, my girlfriend is a waitress at a nice resturant here in the area, and do you know they only pay her $2.30 an hour. So all her real money depends on tips, and lately it's not been so good. We might go on starvation soon enough.... then we both have a reason to join the UN.

Angie donated it to the UNHCR, I'm certain!

That's true JR, she's helped build countless schools and food/water for the refugees. So why can't they lay off her for forgetting to leave one lil tip?

that's terrible. i don't care how much the waiters make, if you have as much money as angelina, you give them a tip.

whenever i go out, even if it's on a date and im not paying for dinner, if i don't like the tip the other person gives, i'll always add more.

i used to work for tips. it sucks.

My girlfriend would probably say it was tip enough to just wait on Angelina's table. Of course it's untelling what she'd do in the situation, but I'm willing to bet she'd give a day's worth of tips up to say she served Angie. ;)

Eunice Hothart! Fucking hell. This woman was a former winner of Gladiators in the UK. She may well have won the first series, back when people still watched it and kinda liked it for its kitsch value.

I know she did some work as a stuntwoman, doing some stuff for Goldeneye, so I assume this is how she met La Jolie. Oh, she's also a Scouser, (a person from Liverpool) so I guess that explains why they were together and why in Liverpool.

I'm on a student's budget and always tip... doesn't matter if I'm in a donut shop or a cab. I've worked enough shitty jobs in my life to know that even a small tip is a nice gesture. When I have more money someday I'll still tip. Of course, I'll never be a multimillionaire, but somehow, I don't think that is an excuse for not tipping :p

Tipping is not so common here in the UK. I get very confused and quite annoyed when I'm in the US that workers EXPECT a tip, even if they give average service. Time you lot sorted out a decent living wage for your workers...

Having said that, maybe Angelina forgot! I remember reading that when she was in the UK filming Tomb Raider, her son needed hospital treatment for something minor. Angelina afterwards donated something like £10,000 to the hospital as a thank you. Is she really a skinflint?? Or did she just forget to tip? Or maybe the service was crap??

I made a bundle in Hollywood, and I ALWAYS leave a tip, unless the dope calls me "Miss Young," "Miss O'Hara" or otherwise doesn't know who I am (which is rare) and fawn all over me. Most waiters are good at that. The more I hear "Yes, Miss Lawson," "Right away, Miss Lawson," "No problem, Miss Lawson," "You're a great star, Miss Lawson," "Anything you say, Miss Lawson," "You don't look a day over 45, Miss Lawson" the bigger their tip gets! Let's face it, all of Hollywood, including the waiters, are phony kiss-asses, so it's real easy for a nice, butt-kissing waiter to score big with me.

After Floyd bit the dust I had to learn how to tip, but it's no excuse not to tip simply because you're rich and famous. But otherwise, let the guy tip, even if he's paying with your money.

I don't get this...normally in europe (I guess in the uk also) waitresses are paid enough not to expect a tip...in a way they also charge the tip in the regular check...) knowing what kind of disgusting waitress go telling journalists "she's stingy she didn't tip us"...
if I were in chéarge of the restauirant I'd fire them for that...gives the place a bad name...and NO I'm not an angelina jolie-fan...in fact I don't even think she looks tghat good, and I never saw her acting well....so...

as anyone who's worked for tips knows - and trust me, i do - you expect something . its very disappointing of someone in her position with her kind of money to leave NO tip, but then again for the waiters to go slagging off to the nearest tabloid isnt very nice either. its a strange strange world.

maybe she wasn't happy with the serving in the first place...I mean usually I always leave tips, but if the waiter/waitress is specifically not doing herjob well,or is purely antipathic, I don't see why I would tip....it's just a hunch I have about this happening....

I always tip... even if they are crap. (cept maybe if they are total asses and don't deserve even a penny) I just leave a dollar if they sucked... They may have just been having a bad day or something. My gf is a manager at a restaurant in the US but she used to be a server and I know what crap money she used to make.

I quess most of the socalled millionaires who tip I not even aware that there are homeless and starving people in this world.
After what Angelina has done for struggling third world country, how can anyone complain about tipping? :fiery:
She spends her personal money and time with the UN helping people which is more than these other celebrities can do.

I for one don't believe in tipping. Why can't waiters come together and demand better wages from their employers?

I tip when the service is bad. If it's hideous, I leave a really really rude tip. Like, a wad of change that amounts to about 57 cents. But really.... you have to give extremely shit service to get that gesture from me ;)

I agree with Rand.

Tipping is not part of our culture. Maybe someone told Angelina about that. I never tip in restaurants, never (I did the one time the waiter went out of his way to find me an aspirin)! No one I know leaves a tip. IT's just not part of our culture. The price that's on the menu is what you'll pay and that's the end of it. There's nothing rude about not tipping!
These waiters probably thougth they needed a more exciting story than just mentioning that Angelina ate at their place. They do give the restaurant a bad name, why would celebs want to eat at a place where the waiters run to the press the moment they left it?

Of course, when I'm in the US, I do leave a tip but I often have to ask Americans how much exactly one is epxected to give.

I think, gentenaire, it's 10%. Althou to be honest, I'm American and I'm not really sure. I always go out to eat where my girlfriend works, and what I eat comes to like $8.00. I end up always leaving her a $5.00 tip thou. Because she's only paid $2.30 an hour. :(

 Canuck, you remind me of my friend Am. She leaves like 20 cents, and calls that a tip when the service is bad.

I don't think it's such a big crim that Angie didn't tip... so what? People in Australia don't really seem to tip so much, although lately more people (at least in my town) seem to have started tipping. I often to to an italian place and get take out, and because I know a few of the people there, I'll chuck my change in the tip bowl (remember, this is for take out! :lol ). And now I go to a Greek restaurant for a meeting every second week and I usually do leave a small tip there, but really the food there is expensive too and I'm not so rich! ;) I guess it really just depends on whether you are used to tipping and if you even think about it. I mean before this year I wouldn't really have thought about tipping. I never rerally tipped in Europe when I went (now I don't know if people then thought I was stingy or not, but I mean it's just not something I'm used to so...). I'm going to Canada in about 10 days and so I guess I'll have to tip there, but I mean I'm going on a Contiki tour and it's not like I'm rich, so I really don't know how much I should tip and how much I can afford to tip!

Hmm I just decided, I hate tipping! :p It's too confusing!
