Have they been in the wrong place all along? Now she says since she's gotten what she was trying to get, her focus is not the Slams. I personally think that is a little backwards, or more so a cover up to the fact that she is number 1 w/out a slam. She has had "decent" results, but really she hasn't played "Grand Slam" tennis. With that said, I think we have two different levels to deal with now in tennis:

We have that level where you can play "number 1" tennis, and then there is that level where you can play "grand slam" tennis. Serena, Justine are the last two number 1's able to do both of these. Kim and Amelie are now the number 1's that have only been capable of doing 1, and by the way they have been playing, they are gonna have to have certain players loose etc for them in my opinion be able to conteded and get their first slams.

what you all think

I think you're either taking her statements out of context, or reading someone who has: she's said for well over a year now that she's wanted to "be the best" and to reach the #1. But for years before that she's said she wants to, and has dreamed of winning a Slam. The two aren't mutually exclusive, she just got to the ranking part of it first.

Her three main priorities (not necessarily in order) were: (1) get to #1; (2) win a slam; and (3) win the Fed Cup. Now that she's gotten two out of three, she'll focus on the slams :)

I don't think they're mutually exclusive, she's not sitting there plotting to smear everyone at a bunch of Tier I's and some Tier II's and then figures she'll fart around during a Slam, I mean, the goal is to win matches. Winning matches brings all three if you win enough of them.

The real question is, wasn't she saving some rare wine for when she won a Slam. Will she drink it now for No. 1 or wait?
