Hey Everyone! There is this game that I used to play called DTL, before I joined this board. The game allowed you to be involved with real tennis tournaments by picking real players. How well you did in the game was determined by how well your team of REAL players did in the REAL tournament.

DTL was so much fun, because while you were hooked on watching your favorite players, you could also route for them and your other selected players. Therefore, I have decided to create a new version of that extinct game. It's called Virtual Women’s Tennis Tour. Below is how it is played.

1.First you pick a WTA Player to go by
2. Then you choose your tournament commitments
3. Right before the beginning of the REAL tournament, your will submit 5 players entered into the tournament (2 seeded, 2 unseeded, and 1 tiebreak player)...this part will be explained more fully below.
[b]Your Player will pick these 5 players as his/her team:
2 seeded players of the tournament
2 unseeded players of the tournament
1 tiebreak player used in case of a tie (Any player: seeded or unseeded)

Your Player earns points for every game your individual team of REAL player wins by in a set: (EXAMPLE: your player's team consists of Kim Clijsters, Venus Williams, Alexandra Stevenson and Daja Bedanova at next year's Australian Open. Below is an example of how many points your team would get).

ROUND 1

Kim Clijsters wins Set #1 6-3(Points gained for set 1 would be 3) Venus Williams wins Set #1 6-1 (Points for Set 1 would be 5) Daja Bedanova wins Set #1 6-4(Points gained for Set 1 would be 2) Alexandra Stevenson loses set #1 6-3 (In this case Alexandra lost set 1, so you would deduct points from the team's points for this set. Points deducted would be 3, since Alexandra lost by 3 games)
For total set points, you would add all the upper points together from your 4 players, so total set points would be 3 + 5 + 2 - 3 = 7

How winning a set is determined:

How well you do in the set and match, is determined by adding up your team of REAL PLAYERS points for the sets (which was explained above) and comparing your teams set points with your opponent's team points. Read below.

Example: Let x represent dividing Team 2 (with the least set points) by Team 1 points (who had more set points than team 2)--
If X is 0%, then the set is 6-0
If x is more than 0%, but equal to or less than 17%, the set is 6-1
If x is more than 17%, but equal to or less than 33%, the set is 6-2
If x is more than 33%, but less than or equal to 50%, the set is 6-3
If x is more than 50%, but less than or equal to 67%, the set is 6-4
If x is more than 67%, but less than or equal to 71%, the set is 7-5
If x is greater than 71%, the set is 7-6 and there will be a tiebreaker.

Tiebreaker points will be determined by using the 5th player of your team (Hence the reason for choosing a player for the tiebreaker). The team whose tiebreak player wins by the most games in the set, will divide there tiebreak player’s points by the loosing team’s tiebreak player (Example: Team #1’s tiebreak player has 6-2, while Team #2’s tiebreak player has 6-4. Team #1 would win, because their tiebreak player won their set by 4 games, while Team #2’s won by only 2 games. Therefore, Team #1 wins the tiebreaker and set with 7/6(4)…since dividing 2/4= 50%…and 4/7 (which is the tiebreak score 7-4) is closest to 50%.
So, this is basically how the game is going to work. Of course, since the game will not begin until December 31, when the official WTA tour begins, there is still time for me to make changes (Especially after my final exams next week ; Therefore, if anything seems unclear to you about this game, please ask.

Also, it may be confusing, but just because you choose to be a player, does not mean you have to choose that person when you pick your team of REAL players (Like if you choose to be Venus Williams, you do not have to pick Venus as one of your team of 5 at the Australian Open: the team you choose there is only to help win the tournament for Venus). The players you choose for your team will be the REAL WTA PLAYERS, during the time of A REAL tournament (get it?) Also, tournaments will take place during the time when the REAL tourmanet begins: like the Australian Open for this game will take place when the REAL Australian Open begins.

Whether this game is created will be determined on how many people sign up (So sign up!! hehe). Just reply below, which ONE WTA player you would like to be for this game (DO NOT list which players you would like to make up a team. That will be done when we decide which tournaments to play and when you know which REAL players are entered. There is no priority, so whoever posts who they want to be first, will be given that person.

Email: If you have any questions, you can post them here (obviously), but if you would like to email me, you can do so by sending it to vwttgame@cs.com

A lot can change in the draw from now until then, so that's why I've decided to wait until the official entry list is posted. This should be pretty darn accurate, lolz.

Also, guys, if the rules do not make sense to you, please let me know. They seem clear to me..since I made the game (lol), but if something is unclear to you, I want to know

VWTT Doubles

Hey Everyone!

Kind of hard to figure out a way for doubles when using REAL player results, lol, but I have figured out a system, so VWTTis going to have doubles, so anyone who wants to play doubles, please begin finding doubles partners. There are still two weeks until the Thalgo Australian Women's hardcourt, so you have plenty of time to find a partner...just don't wait too long The rules for doubles is different than singles, though, so please read them at the bottom of this message.

To enter your doubles team, either post it in this thread or email me at vwttgame@cs.com .

Rules for doubles

Unlike singles, where you will choose five players for your team, doubles will require you and your partner to, instead, predict the score of the top three seeds of a tournament for each round (The reason for predicting three, is incase one of the seeds loses. The highest remaining seed in the tournament will be the only one used, though, not all three). For example, you might predict that Venus Williams wins RND 1 by 6-1 6-0, RND 2 6-3 6-3 etc.

Your points will be determined by comparing your predictions with the actual results, and subtracting that from total games played; For example, if you said Venus would win 6-0 6-0, and she actually won 6-2, 6-2, you would be off by 2 games in set one, and two games in set two. You would then subtract amount of games played per set (which is 8) from the amount you were off by (which is 2). Your points per set would be 6 (from 8-2), and would be added to your partners set score.

Calculating your set score would be the same as calculating the singles. I would compare you and your partner's score with your opponents score.

Dec 18th, 2001, 06:12 AM
O my GOD!!!!! lindsay is taken.

Dec 18th, 2001, 06:13 AM
I'm in as well...and since my other favs (seles, davenport) are taken, I'll have to be none other than Meghann Shaughnessy!

Dec 18th, 2001, 01:58 PM
I would like to play, as I am a former DTL player as well. My player will be Julia Jans of Poland.

Dec 18th, 2001, 02:15 PM
Seles is looking for a doubles partner.

Dec 18th, 2001, 08:50 PM

Meghann would be more than happy to partner with Seles for the beginning of the season.

Jeff- For the doubles, my partner and I independantly predict the set scores for the highest 3 seeds in SINGLES, right?

Dec 18th, 2001, 08:54 PM
Yup, you've got it, Maximus! Each of you send me two separate predictions. Remember, it is doubles though, so you can talk to each other and decide how to go about making your predictions

Dec 19th, 2001, 06:37 PM
Alrighty then, Meghann and Monica is a team!

Dec 20th, 2001, 02:04 AM
Just to let everyone know, I'll be posting the current entry list of players expected to be playing at the Thalgo Women's Hardcourt. When I post the list, be sure to send me 5 players (2 seeded, 2 unseeded, and 1 tiebreak player) to make up your player's team. Choosing your team and sending it to me will enter you into the VWTT Women's Hardcourt tournament. I will post this information when I post the list, but just so you know, you will have until December 29 before midnight (pacific time) to send me your selected team players. Send email to: vwttgame@cs.com . Do NOT Post your selected team on the board, lol

Chanda Rubin will play doubles with Martina Hingis

Dec 21st, 2001, 05:47 AM
Justin: Martina Hingis already belongs to Sam L. If you are Sam L, please use that screen name when speaking for Martina, ok? I cannot make any official commitments for Martina unless you post as Sam L, ok? I went ahead and put you down as Kim Clijsters. Do you want Kim to be in doubles?

Setpoint: Does that mean Chanda is going to play singles, as well, or only doubles? Sorry if I sound wacked. Just don't want to there to be any later confusion

Dec 21st, 2001, 02:44 PM
She will play both singles and doubles.

Hi everyone,

I know christmas is just around the corner and everything gets really chaotic, but if you guys have the time, please start forming your doubles teams. It wouldn't be too exciting if only 3-4 teams are participating. Okie dokes?

P.S.- I wanna wish all a very happy and safe holiday.
