Here is an extract of a german daily paper. Kveta describes the hard life on the tour:

http://morgenpost.berlin1.de/content/2005/05/04/sport/751624.html

No! :o She had a little injury. A strain, to be exact. And playing a tournament wouldn't have been the best for her. But today she felt fit and so she played for Berlin.

Oh okay ;) Happy to see she's back and wins :)

I don't think it was the injury. After her withdrawal from Prague, Kveta played two singles matches against quality opponents like Kleinova and Pastikova and won them both. I think she's fit, it's just this girl Andrea V:fiery:

I don't have a clue, i really wish they could be back together again, a fight between them would be dissapointing and disastrous for their double partnership

Hope Iveta can and will answer me, if my English buddy might be able today to give the special letter in which i asked what's going on between Kveta and Iveta to give it to Iveta....

I only can hope on an answer now, otherwise i dunno how to get info, but they could comeback together since both are committed to play Cincinnati in July..

Zvonareva Loses in Three Sets

Thursday, June 23, 2005

Kveta Peschke of Czech Republic, 30 in two weeks' time, gave herself an early birthday present by reaching the third round with a three-set defeat of 11th seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Most of the statistics were not on Peschke's side ahead of the match. Zvonareva of Russia, more than 10 years younger than Peschke and ranked No.15 in the world, had reached the fourth round of The Championships in 2003 and 2004. Peschke had never advanced beyond the second round and ranks 50 points below Zvonareva. The one statistic that was on the Prague-based player's side was that she had beaten Zvonareva in Berlin 6-2, 6-0, but that was on clay.

The start of this match bore no resemblance to the Berlin one. Peschke did not manage to hold her serve once in the first set. Unforced errors and a troublesome first serve plagued her game. She was twice 40-15 up in her serve but could not score the decisive point - once gifting a game away by five consecutive unforced errors. The Czech beat the ground with her racket in frustration after being broken back by Zvonareva to 1-3 in the first set which she ultimately lost 1-6.

Peschke then started pulling her game together. She finally held her serve in the first game of the second set - even if it was after a deuce. She went on to force a deuce in Zvonareva's serve but this time Zvonareva won. The same thing happened in the Russian's second service game.

Gradually Peschke's shots started finding their target better. At 2-4, she broke Zvonareva but the Russian broke back immediately and kept her serve to love to level the set at 4-4. Peschke kept her serve to go 5-4 up and it was third time lucky for the Czech as she broke Zvonareva to take the set 6-4.

In the third set, Peschke held her serve, then broke Zvonareva's, only to be broken back immediately by the young Russian. The turning point came when Zvonareva was serving at 2-3 down. She lost her serve to love as the heat seemed to take its toll. She was no longer was able to reach the much-improved Czech's drop shots.

Peschke won her next serve to go within one game of winning the match. Even though Zvonareva did hold her serve to reach 5-3, she was unable to deny the Czech the early birthday present she had worked so hard for. Peschke will meet Conchita Martinez, the 33-year-old former Champion, in the next round.

Martinez Falls to Peschke

Saturday, June 25, 2005

In 1994, a young Spanish girl stopped Martina Navratilova from taking the Ladies Singles' title for a record 10th time. She had pulled her muscle and dropped a set but persisted to end Navratilova's Wimbledon reign.

But a full 11 years have passed since that final. Conchita Martinez, at 33, is no longer young, does not have a seeding and has not won any major event in the past four years. On Court 18 today she was knocked out by a determined Kveta Peschke in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

The Czech took just 70 minutes to finish the match against the struggling Spaniard. In the first five games, both players held their serves but then with a couple of crunching winners Peschke raced to two break points. Martinez tensed but, in no mood to give up, easily took the game to deuce. A long rally followed and with a passing winner Peschke reached her third break point. Martinez valiantly fought back and volleyed to drag the game back to deuce but stumbled again and with a wild backhand conceded the game to trail by 2-4.

Peschke seized the opportunity and was in top form. She played a fine baseline game but did not shy away from coming to the net. Martinez made a brief comeback when she broke Peschke in the ninth game but the Czech soon avenged the game and broke Martinez again to take first set 6-4.

The crowd cheered Martinez as she opened the second set. But her fans' support was not enough to rescue her. Peschke, meanwhile, became more aggressive. She hit to the forecourt more often, served meticulously and produced more passing winners. Martinez slumped and stared helplessly at second set scoreline of 6-1.

Today, Kveta beat Angela Haynes for the second time in this season in three sets 6-2 2-6 6-2. According to the stats, Kveta played very well in the first set and had a lot of easy points because of her good first serve.
In the second set she didn't take several break chances and lost some concentration. She comitted more DFs. But in the third set it was all Kveta. She was able to break Angela Haynes two times and hold all her service games. At 5-1* for Kveta, she had at 0-40 on Angela's serve 3 MPs but didn't convert. However, at *5-2, Kveta stayed calm and won the service game easily.

Tomorrow, Kveta will face the winner of Stosur/Azarenka.
If she wins, she will be in the maindraw :rocker:

Kveta Peschke talks about the knee injury that made her quit the tour for over a year

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike Pucci, Register Staff

NEW HAVEN — From a spectator’s point of view, there was no evidence that the Czech Republic’s Kveta Peschke had two knee surgeries, the latest in March 2003.

The fans wouldn’t know that by the way Peschke played in her fourth appearance at the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament Monday. Peschke defeated one of the rising stars on the WTA Tour, France’s Taitana Golovin, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the main draw.

While Peschke appears to be playing her best tennis in years, the road to recovery has been daunting.

Peschke returned to the tour a year after her latest surgery on her left knee.

"When I started the other tournaments (after the surgeries), I didn’t feel like I was so long away from the tour," Peschke said. "I really enjoyed the time and enjoyed the game again. I have no problems on the court (with her knee). It’s not like before, but I really have no problems in any sport."

From the time of her return until now, Peschke has made a complete recovery. Peschke has jumped nearly 50 spots in the rankings since the start of this season. She’s currently No. 41. Unranked as recently as June 2004, Peschke has revitalized her career this season. She reached the quarterfinals at Hobart, Australia, in January and the fourth round at Wimbledon. But the injury nearly ended her career.

"After the first surgery, it really didn’t look so good," Peschke said. "I needed a second one (surgery), and we really worked hard on the knee. We never know if it’s going to work or not, but finally the knee said OK."

Peschke endured a strenuous rehabilitation process, which included several hours a day with her physical therapist five days a week.

"It was very tough," Peschke said. "I had much, much pain. I really had to work hard on the bend because I couldn’t bend the knee. I hope I am over it, and I hope I never again have such an injury."

Despite the injury, Peschke never considered retiring even though, at times, in seemed like she wouldn’t have any other choice.

"No," said Peschke, referring to the possibility of retiring. "I must say I was very positive, and I never thought that this (her career) would be over."
