Some of the lists still have to be finalised, which will be done at the end of September.

At the moment she's committed to:

Kremlin Cup (Oct 11)
Swisscom Challenge (Oct 18)

With the possibility to add:

Porsche Tennis Grand Prix (Oct 4) - Filderstadt - which she usually plays
Generali Ladies Linz (Oct 25)

By the end of this month the first players should be highlighted for the WTA Champs - therefore if Lindsay is one of the first accepted she won't have to worry in terms of playing tournaments just to make the End of Year Championships.

My guess is she'll play the ones she's committed to plus Filderstadt (and if she can stay injury-free and not fatigued she will play Linz).

If she doesn't play Linz she might do a late entry into Advanta (which is Nov 1) but my guess is she'll just take a 2 week break before the EoY Champs.

The main aim for Lindsay is to stay injury-free and then go from there.

and also to get the #1 spot again...she has no points to defend in the whole indoor season. she can definetely end the year as #1!

Yeah I mentioned that at the General Messages forum - if she can stay injury free and contest the tournaments well she can get that no 1 position.

i dnt understand what u guys mean when u say...."she has no points to defend?"

Lindsayfan

she played only fildestardt last year and lost early. afterwards, she underwent a toe-surgery so she didnt play the rest of carpet season.it means that she has no points to defend, cos every year your ranking is based on a sort of comparison between what you do this year and what you did @ the same tourney the previous year. do u get me?

gossipcom

Hence why Mauresmo because she is now ranked no 1 will not be able to get as many points as she did last year - aka if she won a tournament where she was the no 2 or 3 seed and beat a higher seed she would have gotten quality points - that ability to generate points lowers when you go up in ranking.

Loughyunijen

so it means that because last year she didnt play, she has no points from the carpet year 2003......so in the carprt year 2004......she has nothing to lose because she didnt play any matches in 2003.

Do they not just start over....like a new 2004 season....all points count?

Loughyunijen
Sep 11th, 2004, 01:56 PM
oh i see.......she if you are ranked say 100 in the eworld......and you beat no 2 seed.....you would get masses of points because you beat number 2 seed??

but lindsay will be like no2 or no3 in the carpet season right?? so im still a bit confused to how she will earn big points?

Sorry guys am i being dumb here :S

Yeah the only thing she has to defend is Filderstadt (Porsche Grand Prix) because she played that tournament.

They do the following:

Total Points - 2003 Tournament Point + 2004 Tournament Points + any additional points (such as Quality points or 17th tournament).

ie: Filderstadt for Lindsay

4057 - 93 + this year's points

So her base will be: 3964 (that is the crucial target to at)

ETA: Yeah hence why when a Qualifier beats Myskina at the US Open her points sore big time :)

arh ok i see!

Man its so complicated........i wonder why they dont just start fresh points from the begining of the year?!

Cheers for your explination though buddie.....that would have been buggin me all today!

They do start fresh every year for the Race to the WTA Championships. Hence why the people who are in the top 8 in the Race make the Championships (which Lindsay fingers crossed can hold onto her lead)

It's only for the actual rankings that they go on a year to year basis.

I'm actually doing a spreadsheet at the moment with a comparison of the top 5 players (well the top 5 as of Monday) and the breakdown of their points for the rest of the year.

Ok guys another question?

I read an article on lindays the other day, saying how lindsay was really down to earth, and that she wanted to be portrayed as the 'girl next door'. She said when she was young her family couldnt afford much and that her dad, Wink, said "if you want to go to a good college, then you better get a good scholarship!" But then i read on and its says she has 3 Porches and a range rover.........does the porche tennis grand prix tourney give porches away to people who win?? and thus this would explain why linds has so many.......or is linds just splashing out her cash.....on expensive cars.....after she said....."she had to work for everything and always had 'scratty cars'!"

Yeah Porshe Tennis Grand Prix gives out Porsches to the winners.

If she can hold onto the no 1 position in the Race till the end of the year she'll also get a Porsche there - because this year they're giving a Porsche to the person who is the leader before the tournament starts and then one to the winner of the tournament :)

Loughyunijen

arhhhh so thats probably where she gets all these porches......of all ive read of lindsay.....she ddint seem like the spoilt brat where she gsts whatever she wanted!

She also won a porche @ Filderstadt 2001

"The winner of the season-ending WTA Tour Championships not only wins $1 million but also a Porsche to donate to the charity of her choice. New to this year's event, the singles winner of the 2004 Championships held at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on November 8-15 will be awarded a Porsche Cayenne to be given to her favorite charity."

Okay here's the breakdown of the rankings:

http://personal.gossipcom.com/tennis.html

Dementieva's in bold because she's still in the US Open.

Also note Minus TP = Minus Tournament Points => they won't all be deducted at once.

If you want me to continue updating this as the indoor season starts let me know.

:) Thanks Gossipcom for your spreadsheet. If you could update it at the start of the indoor season that would be just great :D

I usually do rough calculations weekly myself just to keep in touch with how Lindsay stands in the ranking but it is good to see it set out like that, cheers:wavey:

Lindsay is officially commited to Filderstadt, Moscow and Zurich. I doubt she'll play Linz. It's right before the indoor tournaments move to the US. She'll probably then play Phili and the Year End Championships.

wow great she's coming to Zuerich, just 3 hrs away! I hope to see her! :)

She won't play Phili unless it's necessary - usually people play Phili if they want to get points before going into the Champs - it's the last event to gain points.

Plus if she plays the indoor season in Europe she'd most likely want a week's break before the Champs - if she plays Phili she won't get that break.

Official confirmation for Filderstadt and the other European tournaments will be coming through next week.

Okay spreadsheet is updated as of tomorrow's projection rankings, etc

It's quite disturbing that the only difference between Lindsay's current ranking points and the race points is Filderstadt <vbg>
