View Full Version : What made you become a fan of Elena?

I first saw her at the 3d round of the 1999 Australian Open. She was up against Martina Hingis and eventually lost 3 and 2. During a particular point towards the middle of the match, Elena hit a ball long and she shrieked (literally). She immediately covered her mouth with her hand and looked a bit shocked and embarassed by it. The whole stadium loved it anyway. So did I.

I had :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: all over my mind after watching the match. Elena seemed very sweet and somewhat "innocent". She's the perfect antidote to all the bitchiness that goes on in tour.

What about you guys? How, when and why did you :hearts: Elena?

I love her sweetness too and her inteligence.
I also happen to hate serve dominated tennis 15-0 30-0 etc etc so Lena's game is
just my cup of tea! Perhaps a few less Dfs would be nice though!!
She is also the most naturally beautiful girl on court and is an enigma ,she looks so
sweet and innocent and shy,yet has the heart of a lion and her body is so strong ,I'm
a bloke and wish I was that strong, you kinda forget she's almost 6ft tall .
She just carries herself so well and I have never seen her moan and complain she is just a fantastic girl and I love her to bits and her smile brightens my day!!
There thats me!!

Same here!

just my cup of tea!

Hmm. I believe Elena would much prefer having a serve-dominated game just so she can breath easier from any DF nightmares.

Perhaps a few less Dfs would be nice though!!

Indeed.

She is also the most naturally beautiful girl on court and is an enigma ,she looks so
sweet and innocent and shy,yet has the heart of a lion and her body is so strong ,I'm

Agreed.

She just carries herself so well and I have never seen her moan and complain she is just a fantastic girl and I love her to bits and her smile brightens my day!!
There thats me!!

I get the impression that Elena's a bit introverted. But that is what I like about her - attention and sponsorship publicity plays second fiddle to her tennis career.

I became a fan of her in 1999 when she was playing Davenport in the State Farm tournament, I think. I was just super impressed with her guts to attack every ball that Davenport hit. And Davenport didn't seem to overpower Elena at all. That's when I first started noticing her. Not long after that, she became my favorite player!

I became fan of her in 2000. The year where I decided to watch tennis on TV again. It was one of the first player I saw and she impressed me with her style of play because she has a strong game without having a bodybulder's body.
Now, i saw a lot of players and like several of them but Elena is always in my favorite players.

Year 2000, saw her semi against Lindsay and thought she was good. Then I heard she won the silver medal, but it wasn't til the YEC at that year in the 1st round when she defeated Lindsay that I REALLY REALLY likder her. She was hitting the ball so hard and so accurately and saved a MP too.

Since then I've been a fan of her beauty, her game and her personality. She really is a great combination on court. I hope she can do wonders this week!!! :)

I like her because she seems so nice, a little shy, but feisty. I admire her athletism and grace (except when she serves!).

I like rooting for her because she's good enough to compete, but not so good that I feel like I'm jumping on a bandwagon (like a lot of fans of a certain other tall, blonde Russian). Speaking of which, 5'11' and blonde is a good thing.

And last, but certainly not least, Elena may just have the most shapely posterier on the planet.

well i became Lena's fan back in '98, when she was becoming pro, i also followed her when she was a junior, at that time she already played wonderfully great, first time i saw her as junior, was when i was following a junior-tournament in '96 or '97, when i saw her score and profile i was immediately, attached of her, and when i had heard a couple of match report on the site of the tournament i was immediately attached of her. I couldn't find her anywhere in junior tournaments in '98 so i thought, how strange, so when i found out her in pro tournaments, i became an even bigger fan of her ( i like it so much the she became pro :D) :D
At that time a was quite a young fan of Lena, i was only 15, (i had also favs at that time, the first time i saw a tennis match was when i was 9 or 10 since then i'm a big tennis fan) i felt in love with her positive attitude and her game, and offcourse cuz she is beautiful!! :inlove: :hearts:

me became Lena's fan in 2002...damn late :o
The first time me saw Lena was USO when she played doubles QFs with Janette..
Against Meg/Kim...
Actually..me didn't intend to see Lena..
Buttttttt me read her name wrong...:o:o:o

me thought.."OMG..my fave is gonna play"
How the hell she is playing doubles..
Ok...it's good anyway..cos' I wanted to see my fave..:hearts:

When all players came out..
I thought "where the hell is Lindsay?!?!"
And why this pretty girl played with Linds' name?
OMG OMG...it's not Davenport...:retard:
It's "dementieva" :o:o  :o:o

Butttttttttttttt I continued to see the match..
and I liked Lena a lottttttttttttttttttttttttttt
Then...I followed Lena's results which were not that good..
But Lena made it at AI 2003 beating my other fave...
But I was damn happy...:aparty:
I love Lena more and more..

I'm damn proud to be a Lena fan..:)

I first saw Lena D at exactly the same time, at the AO 1999, and Ive been a fan ever since :yeah:
I remember that match well - she was really belting the cover of the ball.
..and youre right about her being really sweet and innocent.
At the time I saved a few pictures from that match but I they are on my other computer, one day ill dig them up.

i first saw her last year.. i don't remember against who.. but.. i decided to keep watching that game.. and Lena start to serve.. I thought.... f***!!! ...that's the worst serve ever!!!!! And.. i start to figured it out how good she plays!! That's no loosing balls for this russian...she runs... she moves everywhere on the court...goes to the net...good rallys.. that's a very solid game... makes me remember Fernando Meligeni (a big fighter Brasilian tennis player!) on the court... she's a real fighter...and them a start to look for information about her on the net..and i found a nice, sweet and inocent girl...she's perfect!! :worship: and course ...she's... very very cute

I also like the way she doesn't feel that she needs to belt out a COME ON!!! everytime she hits a winner. Just a small clench of the fists is enough. It's controlled agression.

I arrived some day at home and turned on TV. On spanish TV she was playing against a spanish player (can't remember who, or the tournament) i said 'who is this girl, looks nice!' and searched his name in internet, it was around year 1999 or 2000 so not many info yet about her, but now i see these forums and i'm very proud of the progression she had, some weeks before RG 04 she became my player at "smash court tennis pro tournament 2" :P

In year 2000, when Elena made tons of news , winning the Sliver Olympic medal and appearing in the semi of US Open, as well as knocking out Lindsay at the YEC.
I was like thinking, wow, finally another Russian other than Anna, who plays well and actually I find her prettier than Anna. :)

I just like the fact that she does not show off her beauty the way other girls do. She is so understated and natural :)

Subsequently, I track her career until now and she seems very promising with a hardhitting game and also her junior results are quite impressive too , winning 2 Orange Bowls.

It was in the French Open 2004 when she beat Mauresmo and Davenport, then she bagelled Suarez in the SF. At that point I was a Myskina fan, but in the final, I found myself leaning towards Elena... unfortunately, that was a poor match.

She had her second chance in the US Open, and she played very impressively against Capriati, also beating Mauresmo. But I was heartbroken when she lost to Sveta. :(

I'm a fully converted Lena fan now, and I hope she beats Myskina in Moscow. That would be the perfect revenge for her two GS Final losses.

I think that I already told this history, but he cames again:

The first time that I ever seen one complete match of tennis was the match between Lena and Momo. I had already heard to speak about Dementieva and her "terrible" serve, and I also have seen her serve, me until was admired of your position with that service :ignore: . After a few days I saw her again (Lena x Momo). And then I thought: "well she realys needs to be great to have that position". So... I saw that INCREDIBLE match :bigclap: :hatoff: !! but close to end I have a fantastic idea to get shower, and I lose the final of the third set :bigcry:

I start to like (or better: LOVE  ) tennis after this match. And of course, today I associate the fact of liking tennis with the person that made me like him: ELENA DEMENTIEVA (an also Momo, 'cause she also was very good in the match)

After that match I was totally drug addict in tennis.

After that, I saw one more time Lena, this tim fighting against Capriati. And one more time I lost the third set :bigcry: :bigcry: .

Some friends of mine know how it was when I discovered the scoreboard, but here is going to you: "Me and my parents went to the shoping. When I sat down and I saw a computer in McDonalds :hehehe: . I waited for my cousin to buy something for me to enter in the computer. When finally :shout: she bought I ran for there, I entered in a site :bolt: and I saw in big letters and in bold -> DEMENTIEVA WINS CAPRIATI :woohoo: . It was for now in that, that I passed my largest shame already reminded. I let out a scream :singer: (in full McDonalds), DEMENTIEVA WON!!! :woohoo:  :rocker2: :aparty: Everybody stopped and they looked at me :scared: :timebomb:  . What shame, at least it was for a good cause" :yeah: .

So, today I'm here and FULLY ADDICTED to LENA :hearts: and TENNIS :rocker2: .
