Why was there no major news at all when Graf was inducted to the hall of fame last month? It was never given much significance or importance whatsover by the tennis world or the sports media both here and abroad. None of the current superstars like the Williamses, Sharapova, Henin , Davenport , et al ever made mention of it. Even Graf's contemporaries like Mary Joe Fernandez, Jana Navotna, Gabriela Sabatini, Martina Navratilova, Jennifer Capriati never even bothered.

The induction of Tennis Greats Chrissy Evert and Martina Navratilova to the hall of fame years ago were one of the biggest headlines in the sportsworld both locally and internationally.

When Monica Seles gets inducted to the hall of fame years from now.....It will surely be one of the biggest and grandest tributes ever afforded to a tennis player. In fact, there is already so much anticipation and talk in the sports media and tennis fans around the world.

Do you think anybody will still talk about Seles 5 years after HER retirement?

1999 Roland Garros, 3rd Round

Chris Evert: "Well, the players really look up to Monica and respect her, and as you said, she's handled everything in a very dignified manner. And the thing that I love about Monica, when she loses a match, she has no excuses. I mean, she has nothing but praise for her opponent, and that's such good sportsmanship.

Dick Enberg: "Well, that falls under the category of 'respect for the game.' You certainly had that, and we admired that quality in you. There should be more reverence to the sport that they play, and people cheer them while playing, and they make a very handsome living through that process."

Chris Evert: "And she also, you know, her results speak for themselves. She talks with her racket. She's had so much success, but you never hear her bragging, or being arrogant or cocky. Monica has that modesty about her that I think is very attractive."

People feel sorry Monica.
Because she was stabbed.
Because she choose not to play for more than 2 years due to a 1-cm wound.
And because she squandered her talent in the 9 years after that ....

:(

Before the stabbing (1991-1993), Monica Seles was the number one player in the world and winner of 7 Grand Slams while Steffi Graf was ranked a consistent number two and only managed to win 2 Grand Slams. After the stabbing, Graf became number one again and went on to win 11 more Grand Slams while Seles only managed to add one 1 Grand Slam.

Parche's heinous crime was rewarded as he got his wish--in fact, much more than what he expected... while justice for Monica Seles in Germany has been denied even up to this day.

How funny....but Monica Seles' rightful place among the very greatest to have ever played the game have long been secured. She was already a legend in the game at age 16 after becoming the very first youngest female tennis player to ever win a Grand Slam in more than a century. The hall of fame is just the icing to her legendary and fabled career.

Sorry to dissapoint you.

In 1991 Graf & Seles exchanged the #1 spot several times. No "consistent number 2" there. Steffi was #1 still going into USO 91.
And she won the two most important tournaments in 91/92.
Wimbledon 1991.
And Wimbledon 1992. Beating Seles like a drum.

Parche got a 2-year-suspended prison term.
Nothing unusal for a first-time offender with no previous convictions and "reduced culpability" (due to psychological problems) if no intent to kill can be proven. Would have been the same in most European countries.

The way #1 Seles beat #2 Steffi Graf to win the 1993 Australian Open for a 3rd consecutive singles title there certainly did not suggest that Seles was close to ending her dominance.

It took something beyond Steffi Graf to stop Seles .. it took a sharp knife in the hands of a Graf fan in Germany to stop Monica's dominance.

Winning in the last 4 minutes of the match on her best and Graf's worst surface (with a 86-78 in points won) definitely shows Monica's dominance ...
Remember, Graf had break point at 2-4 in 3rd set. But Monica made the next 7 points.

A player who is the greatest of ALL time does not have to rely on the #1 ranked player in the world (who is just a tennager and #1 for consecutive years while winning 9 of the 11 biggest events in the sport over a period of more than 2 years) being stabbed in the back with a knife.

The Monica Seles incident in Hamburg, Germany at the end of April in 1993 -- especially when you take into consideration how dominant the young teenage Seles was in the months November 1990 through April 1993 -- SEALS it that Graf was not the best of all time.

Graf was in the middle of her career in the early 1990s -- and yet Seles as a teenager was the one ranked #1 and the one winning 9 of those 11 biggest titles between November 1990 and January 1993 -- and this, within itself, eliminates Graf from consideration as the top woman tennis player of all time.

Navratilova in her mid 30s (turned 34 in 1990 .. turned 35 in 1991 .. turned 36 in 1992 .. and turned 37 in 1993) had a winning record vs. Graf in the 1990s prior to the stabbing of Monica Seles in April 1993, including the only match Navratilova and Graf played against each other in a Grand Slam singles match during the 1990s.

Seles, of course, as a teenager in the years 1990 through 1993, had a winning record vs. Graf as well before a jealous Steffi Graf fan stabbed Seles in the back with a knife.

No way Steffi Graf is the best woman tennis player in tennis history when you consider the truth of Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova and Monica Seles in the years 1990-1993.

In 1989 Seles was only 15 years of age and was a year or two away from beginning to reach her prime.

Seles was not at her peak at 15 .... give that up already .... Seles was coming into her best form in 1990 and 1991 and she was a world beater in 1992 and 1993 until a fan of Graf's stabbed her in the back with a knife.

Yes, Seles was better at 16, 17, 18 and 19 than Graf was in her early 20s .... we see that in the rankings from 1991-1993 until the stabbing .... we also see it from Seles winning 9 of the 11 biggest events in tennis between November 1990 and April 1993.

The fact remains that Seles won 10 of the 12 biggest events in women's tennis in those 30 months leading up to the stabbing --- EVERY major event in women's tennis other than Wimbledon between the 1990 WTA Championships and the 1993 Australian Open.

LADIEZ, YOU ARE THE BEST. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?????? :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

....

Navratilova turned 34 in 1990.
Navratilova turned 35 in 1991.
Navratilova turned 36 in 1992.
Navratilova turned 37 in 1993.

During the four (4) years between January 1990 and December 1993 Navratilova had the winning record vs. Steffi Graf.

Navratilova was 29 in 1986.
Navratilova was 30 in 1987.
Navratilova was 31 in 1988.
Navratilova was 32 in 1989.

During the four (4) years between January 1986 and December 1989 Graf had a CLEAR winning record vs. Martina Navratilova.

Obviously Navratilova peaked post-89? To young in the 80ies?
Yeah, dumbo?

I know, I won't get an answer to this one ......

Son, if I had to defend Seles I wouldn't be as dumb as you. Believe me .....

Is that all you can say? how sad.

Pat McEnroe: "It's funny, Dick, you talked about what could have been with Monica. You look at her record, when she won Roland Garros in 1990…when she started in ‘91, the run, she won the Australian, she won Roland Garros again, didn't play Wimbledon, won the U.S. Open. Ninety-two: Won the Australian again, won Roland Garros, got to the Finals of Wimbledon, won the United States Open. Went down to Australia again, won there, and then was stabbed.

Dick Enberg: "How great would she have been in terms of her Grand Slam titles?

Mary Carillo: "I think she's the classiest woman tennis player in that locker room. She is so gracious in victory and in defeat. I've never seen someone better than Monica Seles."

A gracious loser. Especially in Wimbledon.
Not a bad epitaph ....

SO WE LOOK AT THE 12 BIGGEST SINGLES TITLES IN WOMEN'S TENNIS DURING THE 30 MONTHS BEFORE THE STABBING:

1990 1991 1992 1993 1994

1990 WTA Championships MONICA SELES
1991 Australian Open MONICA SELES
1991 French Open MONICA SELES

1991 Wimbledon STEFFI GRAF

1991 U.S. Open MONICA SELES
1991 WTA Championships MONICA SELES
1992 Australian Open MONICA SELES
1992 French Open MONICA SELES

1992 Wimbledon STEFFI GRAF

1992 U.S. Open MONICA SELES
1992 WTA Championships MONICA SELES
1993 Australian Open MONICA SELES

Seles was just a teenager when she was stabbed ... however, she was the 3-time defending champion of the Australian Open ... the 3-time defending champion of the French Open ... the 3-time defending champion of the WTA Tour Championships ... and, 2-time defending champion of the U.S. Open.

In fact, no player in women's tennis history has won more than the 10 out of 12 major singles titles that Monica Seles won in those 30 months before being stabbed in April 1990 --- although Martina Navratilova in her prime 10 years earlier managed to match that 10 of the 12 biggest singles titles played consecutively.

Monica Seles was the ONLY player in women's tennis to win 2 of the 5 biggest singles titles in women's tennis in 1990 ... 1991 ... 1992 ... and the ONLY player to win a Grand Slam singles title in 1993 before she was stabbed in 1993 by a Steffi Graf fan.

Of course, then we had the stabbing of world number one Monica Seles by a jealous Steffi Graf fan.
