View Full Version : Why Haven't We Seen Justine in a Night Match?

As the #1 player, I think it's very disrespectful of the US Open, they have yet to feature her. I believe she only played on ashe on her opening round and since they've put her on one of the other showcourts. What the heck is going on? I don't think Mauresmo had a night match yet either.

Justine may have opted out of playing a night match. She's been struggling with the flu and playing early and ending early will only help her get better.

I don't think that's the case, now they have her on Armstrong, the 3rd show court, they could have giving her a day match on Ashe or GrandStand. Remember, Mauresmo is not sick, #2 player, and still no feature matches!

simply cuz they are not US

we probably will if she and Maria make it to the quarters, definately a night match, but I have a feeling neither will make it that far.

They're probably saving her up for the final prime time match because they know she'll be there.

that's because most americans think that serena is the real no. 1.
besides personally i feel that the 1st match of the day is the best (the 11am one) cause you get to end early
maybe justine feels the same way?
either way i don't think it fazes her

Well, she's not American and she's not Sharapova. Surprised?

Only an idiot would think Serena is the real No. 1. She is NOT ranked No. 1 and believe me she hasn't been playing like she's the number one player in the world either.

Perception is not reality.

This whole tournament is screwed up. I hope it doesn't rain so we end up with a travesty like last year.

Armstrong is the second show court, much bigger than Grandstand. Otherwise, you do have a valid point.

What happened is that US TV network executives want to have major American players OR Maria Sharapova on primetime (7-11 PM) playing Arthur Ashe stadium. So far, we had Serena and Roddick on day 1, Sharapova day 2, Capriati and Agassi day 3, Venus day 4, Serena and Roddick again on day 5 (today), and Lindsay and Venus tomorrow. They have to do this as much as possible during the first week, because by the second week many of the American players (and Maria!) could be out and they have no control over it.

I am sure Justine will get a night match. The final will be played next Saturday night.

Thanks :) Actually, I have already bought the ticket to the final as I expect a Justine-Serena final. So don't disappoint me Justine!

I thought we discussed over and over. Americans think shes homely
and do not want her on tv. They dont' care about her tennis anyway,
and have no respect for as the number 1 player. They simply do not
care and think Serena and Venus are the best players in the world.

Maybe it's a request from Belgian TV, because if she plays at the beginning of the day, it's a perfect time for broadcasting it. They show her matches live, so it's good for them if she begins around 6 pm Belgian time (= noon at NY).

I think Juju herself prefers to play in the day. But I don't know, does the question of a player count?
Anyway, I don't care too much, because I can see it live on Belgian television now. Night matches would be in the middle of the Belgian night...

it could really be because belgian tv made a request

i mean, over here in asia, it's so obvious the network got USTA to put paradorn 1st up everytime he plays, so pple can watch him b4 they sleep:mad:

Actually I've heard that Juju can make her option, as no.1, and she asked her matches to be scheduled as earlier as possible, in the morning. I think it has to do with the heat and her recuperation time.

The American's probably don't know who she is. They've probably forgot who won last year. Most British people don't know who she is either.

Hi GS. Yes, unfortunately we Americans are shallow. And TV does
hold the attention of many Americans.

Oh- I think the BOSS (JHH) will be the night match on Monday night.

Amelie is on tonight :bounce: As for Justine, i will not be surpised if they put her on tomorrow. Monday night football, so no prime time TV coverage again.

Surely they won't put Justine on for the night match tomorrow night either, that honour surely will go to the mouth-watering clash between Venus and Lindsay :bounce:

I doubt it.

CBS gets priority over USA on their Labor Day coverage. They'll want Venus vs. Lindsay for their day slot.

That leaves USA with Justine and Petrova.

It's probably because she has to give Pierre his bottle and tuck him in by 19.30.

Seriously though, I wouldn't be too bothered - night match / day match, the main thing is she's winning the matches ... and as someone pointed out above, the final is played at night.

I'm not so sure about that, I think she is known, well at least most people who I speak to who know anything about tennis do! And those friends of mine who have to listen to me harping on about tennis do too!:)

Although, I have noticed a few of them refer to her as 'that little french girl'!!!

Simply because she is not entertaining. It is a pitty by the way, 'cause I can watch only day sessions here, and Ms. Hand is screwing them up. Night upset for Henin please.
