She played the cleanest match of any woman today (22 winners, 8 UE's).

She plays Sharapova next and I think she will beat her.

WOW, congradts Mary Pierce. I've seen Virginia Ruano Pascual play before and she can be very good so she probably fought. Mary just fought harder I guess.

 Sick sick sick...holy shit. And to think Vivi beat Mary at Wimbledon fairly convincingly just 2 months ago.

Almost three times as many winners as errors...could THIS be Mary's time? She can certainly beat Sharapova, Kuznetsova, or Frazier playing like this. If Justine doesn't raise her game, Mary could knock her off as well.

I'm truthfully beginning to believe this might be Mary's two weeks...no joke.

I see the Maria haters are gathering to attach their spleen to another player's bandwagon.

Why don't these people take their bitterness to some other sphere if they hate new talent in tennis so much?

I am not jumping on Mary's bandwagon; I just know that she can beat her and she probably will. Do you realize she is the only top ten womem's player left in the draw who has played two three set matches? Something has to give and I think it will be either be Saturday or Monday (but I am hoping Saturday).

BTW, what new talent? She didn't even get past the QF of any summer harcourt match this year. Bovina can at least say she won a hardcourt tournament.

why is someone being a hater for saying that a 2 GS slam winner in great form will beat another slam winner in bad form? can you say oversensitive

Allez MAry. I hope she can beat Sharapova whenever they play, she has the game to beat her, but her groundstrokes have to be rock solid for her to have a chance because her movement is shit and Maria will be making her run all over the place. Good luck Mary.:drive:

It's clear you only started this thread as a vehicle for your obsession with hating on the 17 year old girl who beat your fave so soundly. Why else the vicious hope for her downfall? I can understand fans who support a player. What I cannot understand are those who HATE on good and successful players, and want to bring them down. That seems unhealthy to me.

BTW, what new talent? She didn't even get past the QF of any summer harcourt match this year. Bovina can at least say she won a hardcourt tournament. What new talent? The 17 year old who won Wimbledon, beating the best players of the moment on their home turf! That's what new talent. The very fact you do not acknowledge this enormous achievement reveals your obsessive spleen.

And forget your penny-ante hard court tournaments in hicksville. Nobody will remember the names of those tournaments in four weeks time - let alone who won their depleted fields. They WILL remember who won Wimbledon.

You posted crap about "sending Sharapova home". I returned the favour with your fave.

I came into this thread expecting to see a normal congrats thread, talking about Pierce's play. Instead I find it full of certain obsessives trying to relaunch their Maria hate-fest. There's no reason for that. By all means wish Mary Good Luck, but the Maria-hating is so transparent here.

And your faves Venus and Serena should get the crap beat out of them asap too, then we'll chasten the annoying obsession of their "fans" with hating a 17 year old girl whose crime is to play great tennis.

It is so obvious that the people in this thread are not Mary Fans, but Maria haters, jumping on anyones bandwagon for as long as they are next up against her.

it's so obvious that you are far too obsessed with maria and are boarding on being paranoid. yes it's all a big conspiracy and we're all out to get you and maria!!

why can't you just ignore posters you think don't like maria instead of wasting your life arguing with them. it's especially pointless when it's someone like me who is a big fan of mary. you need a reality check because it's not as if mary is some obscure player with no fans - she was one the most popular players on tour for many years and still has legions of fans.

The ones obsessed with Maria are the people who turn every thread they can into a forum for bitterness toward her. Check out the other congratulation threads. They are full of congrats for the winning player and discussion of their victory. Not like some of the posters here whose signatures don't even carry Pierce's name, but those of players like venus, Serena and Hantuchova. Those are the ones posting stuff like "kick Maria out of here", "crush Maria" which IS hating, whether you want to see it or not.

why can't you just ignore posters you think don't like maria instead of wasting your life arguing with them.

You seem prepared to spend time posting bitching at me - but not at the haters here. I get sick of posters hoping for my faves downfall, and I'll call them on that. Supporting a player is fine. It's the obsessives who become one-match "fans" of any player opposed to Maria. It's been noted before - and not just by me.

it's especially pointless when it's someone like me who is a big fan of mary. you need a reality check because it's not as if mary is some obscure player with no fans - she was one the most popular players on tour for many years and still has legions of fans.
You need the reality check. Read the sigs of the posters bitching at Maria here. You don't see Mary there.

I don't doubt for a second that people "hate on" maria. i have posted in several threads saying people should give her a break and how her results since wimbledon mean little in terms of her overall career. i just think you are going a bit nuts in this thread over comments that weren't even that provoking.

this board is full of people who don't like players and say much worse things than what has been said in this thread. maria is in the spotlight now and that is only going to make the "haters" more determined to bring her down. the sooner you realise this the better. ultimately it's up to you though - if you get off arguing with people about the same thing again and again and again then fine. i'd just like it if it didn't pollute every thread i go into and the same goes for the so called "haters".

Good stats, but Ruano is on the verge of singles' retirement, and isn't even close to a top 100 player now. Her and Magui, it's like someone told them to just rot and die in 2004.

i've seen the second set. Vivi didn't tank at all, she did all she could do, but Mary was just fantastic, her best tennis since a lots of time, good concentration, no tension or pressure on her. I believe in her for the next round, she can definitely do it.

You're right.

And from 2000-2003 a WILLIAMS won it!

They also won two doubles titles there too.

BTW, I am not obsessed; I don't like how the media is makinga big deal of a player who honestly will not win this tournament only because she won Wimbeldon. She is playing the worst out of the top ten seed left.
