View Full Version : Is Myskina's loss an embarassment?

Like the one Justine, RG defending champion's opening loss reminiscent of Hewitt's Wimbledon upset.
Or the one Maria suffered at the hands of Mashona, which cause the endless criticisms.
IMO, this is even more embarassing, since there is really no excuse for her to play bad.

Justine was sick, I do not consider it as embarassing.

No, because I think that girl is good. She may plow over a few top seeds. I'm sad Myskina is out so early.

Justine was sick and she didn't lose in the opening round., unless second round is opening for you.

No, but her performance or rather her attitude was.

Oh...I think you got it mixed up....I was talking about Justine's loss in RG, not Myskina.
But you guys are right, Justine's loss is never an embarassment to start with.
Myskina's loss is the one that's embarassing.

i would say no.

her opponent was far more superior, though, it's true that myskina made tons of errors, but no, it was not an embaressment, she'll pull it through during indoor season.

One you've one a grand slam I don't think anything should be embarrasing. So what this girl beat Myskina. At the end of the day this girl can say she beat Myskina ONCE. The fact that that alone is a big deal shows you why Myskina should not even be slightly embarrassed.

had Nastya won playing that bad would have been worse or more of an embarassment for the WTA.

most of you guys never seen or heard of Anna before.
She's got the tools :) and a cool head :)

No...she can say she´s tired from the four tourney weeks in a row (!) she played a week before the US Open.

lol....people who have been following challengers already heard of her before.
But there is a reason why she is less hyped than the K-Lina last year:).
She is 17, and still outside top 100, not saying it's bad or anything, but Myskina losing to her is pretty embarassing after all, it's not like Anna is the next biggest thing from Russia, unlike Dokic's upset over Hingis;).

Said before the US-Open Anna's among the 70 best on the faster courts. Before the US-Open Anna played a 3 setter vs. Farina. Last year went to 3 sets vs. T. Pisnik at the Kremlin Cup. Played twice on grass and reached as many times the final. Anna's no fluke.
No, wouldn't call it an embarresment.

Watching her you might think she is the next biggest thing from Russia. She could rally with Myskina and hold her own quite often even before Myskina hit a UE, she plays smart tennis and has a good serve and is more consistent than a lot of the next biggest young things (Karolina and Sesil spring to mind)

Hell yes ,her loss is an embarrassment....just like her loss at the olympics. She's #4.Top 5.Players we expect to win, shouldn't play if they are tired, sick or injured, and spare themselves the embarrassment of an early loss.

When the top players win all the time, there's no depth in the women's tour, when top players lose to qualifiers it's called an embarassemant?

Hmmm.....seems like this girl has a big future ahead of her....although I think at this stage Myskina should have beaten her. If she keeps losing like this, she won´t be russian no.1 much longer.

Some players can handle been the targeted one (the player who everyone wants to beat). I don't Myskina can handle it.

Every top player is going to suffer an early Slam exit a few times in their career. I'm intruigued that this one (following on from her early Wimbledon loss) has attracted so little attention. Two early Slam exits after winning her first Slam. We will wait and see how much attention on this board Maria gets if she loses early  Double standards!!! :)

Myskina is a great player who has quietly crept up the rankings and surprised most people by winning a Slam. I just think its funny that she still is quietly amongst most of the other big names even now!

From what I've seen in the past she is the new "Amy Frazier."

A newer-better version of Myskina. By far Russia's best player today. :fiery:

The thing with Mysking is that she ALWAYS flirts with danger against lower ranked opposition, as if she's daring them to beat her - as if she doesn't really believe that they could beat her. But Anna actually held it together and Myskina just wasn't up to it today.

At the end of the day you win some you lose some.
