View Full Version : What do you guy think of Anna Chakvetadze?

When I saw the draw I thought it would be a walkover for Nastya. It hasn't been like that at all. Anna's really putting up a fight. Myskina isn't serving too well and is making lots of errors but I think lots of them have been forced by Anna. I think that if she becomes a little more powerful then she'll be a great player in the future.

Good luck Anna. :wavey:

She's had a couple of flukes.

Maybe it is a fluke. I've never even heard of her before. She's playing great though.

IF that guy can't get Sharapova's name right (Shaparova) then I can't wait to see him try this one.

Just another under-ranked Russian teenager, the likes of Maria K, not a slam winner material yet.

Anna's not flukey
she's got alot of game
she's only 17 :) and this is her 1st slam

she moves really well. her BH DTL is really impressive, serves pretty good
FH isnt too bad either
next yr she'll be knocking on door of top 50 :)
she was Wimbledon runner up last yr in jr's
and bt Sesil K 6-1 6-0 in US Open jr's last yr.

Anna played great! Her groundstrokes are really deep and solid..
Myskina was off form and doesn't seem to display much emotion on court.

The commentators has a problem pronouncing Chakvetadze.. a bit too much tongue twisting involved...

A joy to watch, esp. her deep groundstrokes. Great counterpuncher who can accelerate. Said it before the US-Open she's among the 7O best on the faster courts. :)

correct spelling is Tchakvetadze, the T is silent
she's left out the T on WTA rankings changed it about 6 months ago.

Brilliant...coming from a very very sad Nastya fan...like someone else said: Anna´s game today was a better version of Nastya´s game...incredible. It was fun seeing her play, wonderful backhand, good serve, precise and nice tactics!!!

I am impressed! Cheering!!!

No, some languages use phonetic transcription of the names. For example, in Serbian your fave would be called Dženifer Kaprijati.

I'll pass on her. Watched the 2nd set. This girl reminds me of
the class smarty pants.

Oh...Shit! You should've seen the handshake our Myskina gave her.
:haha: It looked like Serena's "hand pass" to JHH at Roland Garros last year.

Anna is VERY GOOD. I saw her play against Schett and she reall impressed me. She hits with you for a while then accelerates on a ball with nice angle to open the court giving her an easy put away. She needs to develop a little more pace and a better second serve, but that will come. The rest is all there. She moves beautifully around the court. Schett would hit some drop shops but she got 'em all back. She even volleys well on her rare trips to net. I like this girls game and I think she has what it takes. I predicted after I saw she played Myskina next that she was going to upset her. She is really that good. If she keeps this up she will be in the quarters against Davenport. GO ANNA!

I think she has a lot of potential but shouldnt have beaten Babsi and Nastya :( :( :(

Now I hope she's gonna do the same as Alyona did some years ago, make a great performance in the US Open, reaching the SF  ;)

First time I saw her, i was really impressed. I knew she was good because of her results in challnegers and juniors, but she showed she was better than i thought today. I love her BH and unlike a lot of other young players, she knows when to hit a winner and when to keep the ball in play. She has impressive speed too. I really like her after this.

I saw her the first time in the Wimbledon junior's final, she had some great shots but she too erratic that time, maybe it were the nerves or something, but when I saw the match against Anastasia, I was suprised how much she has improved in a year, hope she goes far :)

Haven't seen her play. Hopefully she'll go further at the Open and I'll be able to catch her on T.V.
Impressive debut at a Grand Slam I have to admit.
:yeah:
