-Kuzzy's fastest was 110 MPH
-Hanes and Ashley :yeah: Never seen them play, is there room for progression service-speed-wise?
-Golovin/Myskina  always surprised by her service speed
-Venus and Serena: will they dethrone Svetlana to reclaim 1&2

... To be continued ;)

*yes I'm a service-speed-freak :p*

Very fascinating. In the mid 1990's Mary and LD were considered the
biggest hardest servers on tour, now it's the average speed range of the
top 10.

yeah, strange isn't it.
What is it actually?
Is it that the rackets are evn better these days, or is it all a question of power or even ( ) technique ??

Sveta

Greenout

It's both. The face size of the stick did get bigger, and the modern
space metals have made it easier. Let's not forget players actually
(GOD FORBID! what a concept!) training in the gym. They did not
train in the gym in the 1990's, only nutty players like Steffi. ;)

Racquets are definitely a factor (their technology has made huge progress over the last 10 years). Technique can be very important. I think a girl like our Walloon Warrior can dish it out hard thanks to her impeccable technique.
Still, can't get over Kuzzi being the fastest one

was really her name. :) And please remember it
has been windy these past days. Everyone's serve is
actually higher than this! :tape:

Surprised about Myskina and Zuluaga

Zuluaga is a rather 'big girl' isn't she. I mean, she tall, so easier to generate power... But people like
Myskina
Henin
Golovin
Shaughnessy

all look so tiny and still manage to hit it that hard.
Henin really goes for it with WHOLE her body, but Myskyna doesn't even seem to make a real effort, it must be all technique and timing in her case

Well, I figured they took the highest speed record during the
matches, which featured playing against the wind and behind the
wind. If you look at past speed rates, it usually does feature
these names Molik, Mary, the BOSS, LD, W/S so I figure it's
pretty accurate. If ED was on the list, then I'd discard all the
speed readings and have a good laugh instead.

List is almost similar to the one @ Wimby
except that Sveta climbed up the ladder a lot!

Tatiana is all stick speed. She really swings that sucker wide and quickly.
Just check it out during her match against Serena coming up on Friday.

I'm sure the reason no one really noticed this is because, nobody is
really watching her technique anyway!!!!

Sveta
This ranking is so relative. All these players have played on main courts, but there are others who have played on samellers courts that don't appear. For exapmle, I'm sure Aranxta Parra Santonja have served at 180 KPH on her first match so, She should appear in this ranking, but her first match was on court 17, and there are not any statistics about her serve on this court

Fastest serve was by Nicole Pratt 247KPH at this year FO

VRULES

They have their conversions wrong. Remember when Venus hit a 205 kph at the Aussie in 2003 and that was the fastest ever at that slam. That was 125 mph, so 201 kph isn't 126. Serena's 126 was like 207 kph at wimby, so their stats are wrong.

Plus has Kuznetsova ever hit a serve into the 120s, the fastest i have seen is like 115, and that was a stretch (I haven't seen a lot of her though, but people don't just all of a sudden serve bigger). Now if it was Petrova I could see it but not Kuznetsova.

The serve speeds are going up very fast for the women. When this was pointed out at Wimbledon, everybody said all the serve speed meters were faulty....

Now it looks like the US Open serve speed meters are faulty too..

Myskina served with 111 mph in Wimby, so no mistake here. Though I have to say it´s interesting, cause she just uses her arm to serve, not the whole body going forward like for example Justine (fastest serve here:113 mph).

Myskina only serves a few really BIG serves. Her average is around 100. She can't put in big ones consistently for a whole match. But I think she's been working out to get her average to 100.

Kuznetsova is a meaty lass, so I believe she can turn out a big serve on occasion.

Shaughnessy has really been working out. She's thin, but all muscle.

Henin is the surprising one. Only 5 feet six, thin as a rake, and a power player!!

It's taking 110 MPH even to get on to the top servers board these days.

Sveta is extremely powerfull. It could have been a 'lucky' serve...
All the others seem to be correct, so why would her's be false?

Sveta is not THAT powerful, plus we probably would have heard about it somewhere else cause 126 mph serves in the women't game don't go unnoticed.

Shaughnessy is pretty tall? Her and Nadia playing doubles together must be the ball's nightmare.

Nastya is strange - the first serve is so much faster than the second but some matches she wins a far higher percentage on the second serve.

Schiavone hasn't been on a court with a radar gun yet she and Justine hit 113 Mph regularly on 5'5" bodies. Francesca had a shoulder injury from doing it though and has some awful service games and Justine seems to be serving a lot of DF since the AO so there is a downside.

If you saw the olympics the Russians had a stunning volleyball player called Gamova who was 6'8" tall - now if she could serve..........

I saw a Sveta match today against Pratt and she was serving pretty big in that match. I'd believe that she served that fastest serve. I dont understand why people doubt that, if you've ever seen her play.
