With it looking likely that Lindasy Davenport will retire in the near future, I'm gonna have to fill the gap left by her departure. She's one of my top 4 favourite girls (along with Sharapova, Molik and Kirilenko). I've compiled a shortlist of girls I think would be good to start supporting to fill Lindsay's gap. Not all of them are up-and-comers. They are:

Vera Zvonareva: Talented young Russian, doing good things on the American Hardcourts this year.

Nicole Vaidisova: Really caught my eye during her second set against JHH. She was playing very well, but the only problem was the the woman on the other side of the net was the world #1. My top pick ATM.

Samantha Stosur: Would seem like an obvious chioce, being an Aussie. But I'm always going to follow all the Aussie girl's progress with interest anyway.

Tatiana Golovin: Fiesty Frenchwoman who has rocketed up 300+ rank postitons in the past year! Also has made the R16 in two of three GS's this year.

Kim Clijsters: Already established talented player. The main reason for me to support her would be that she's with Lleyton Hewitt, my favourite male tennis player.

Other: Obviously there will be a million others that I am not aware of! Please tell me about them!

I think 3 fav players is more than enough!

Your favourite player is heart affair not poll or something. ;)

Some player attracts so cheer for them but this way of choicing a favourite player is, hmmm, more than "strange".

Find yourself a tourney or challenger, enjoy it "live" and maybe you'll find yourself someone new ;)

probably really disappointed...

the whole australian tennis community expected her to get to at least the R16 with no problems... it was probably the weight of that expectation that brought her game down anyway.

Others. Why not Anna Chakvetadze she's a hard hitter fast court specialist. Goes for her shots.

I chose Zvonareva because I don't think there's enough of her supporters about! :o At the end of the day just choose whatever player you immediately warm to! :)

Chanda could always do with some extra support, but you'd have to be a nice person coz all Chanda fans here on the board are known for their niceness and charismatic personalities, just like our girl Chanda! :bounce: :)

When Hingis retired I had trouble finding a new favorite too. I didn't start liking Myskina until this years Australian Open and I'd say it was a good choice. Go with Myskina, but if you like Golovin she be a great champion someday too.

I chose Nicole but I also think Tati is full of good things to come.

Kim/Vera are already established and would also be good choices. I haven't heard much about Samantha, but I have heard she has a good game.

I guess I chose the younger girls because I like to see how the players develop, see their games evolve, etc.

What you should do is watch all the contenders and see who you wind up being most excited about.

I also like Marion Bartoli. she is not very tall, and not very strong looking, but she wacks the ball around really good. I like her a lot, though a couple people, for instance, Quasimodo, find her very annoying, not me. sorry, all he players i offered have been french.

Justine Henin-Hardenne- it's very easy to be her fan, she will win US Open and she is number 1, and I don't think she will dissapointed her fans next year. But you can cheer for Nastya too because she's very nice and even if she will lose you could always say: Oh no, she lost, but damn!, she's so sexy

Pick someone who's blonde and has a great rack and ass. That way, if she sucks and never wins, you can still enjoy being her fan.

ATM I'm liking Vaidisova and Golovin the most. And that Chadkavtdze (or however you spell it) girl impressed me my downing my least favourite player - Myskina. I'll keep an eye on her results for a while too.

Scout the junior rankings and pick a player with good results and ready to turn pro, if Lindsay is playing in 2005, otherwise pick Nicole or Sesil who have big potential and have had good starts to their pro career.

I decided two or three years ago to scout the juniors and hype-articles for someone so they would be poised for the Top 20 or 30 when Jennifer retired and I picked Maria Sharapova just before she played her first match as a pro in 2001, and now she is ranked one place above Jennifer in the Top 10!?! TOO QUICK, MARIA!!!

First off, I know exactly what you're going through. I was (and still am) a hard-core Steffi fan and when she retired I was devastated. Tennis lost something special the day she retired. I really tried my best to move on, but my heart just wasn't in the game anymore. Thankfully I found some of the traits that I admired most about Steffi, (her desire to be great, her will power and determination, her mental fortitude, and her awesome execution and tremendous skill,) in another player... I soon noticed there was "another"- a player that had the same kind of determination, the potential to have the same mental fortitude, and not to mention an awesome game- SERENA WILLIAMS!!!

The thing about it though, is that you can't really sit back and make a decission about which player you're going to give you heart and total support to. It's my belief that the player actually will find you. You'll see something that will draw you in, you'll notice something you admire about that person, something that makes you want to see that person be the best they can be- and at that moment you would have found your new favorite player. No one can take the place of your original favorite, but what I've learned is that your new favorite can help you to appreciate the game in a whole new exciting way.

But what are you doing worrying about that now?? Now is the time where you should soak up every Lindz moment you can and just appreciate her. At least you know the end is near. Steffi just up and quit on me right out of the blue...
