Good luck in 3R :D

Sep 2nd, 2004, 09:07 AM
A much more convincing win in R2. Congrats.

Sep 2nd, 2004, 09:53 AM
yep i was proud of her! the usual dodgy first 2 games then look out! here comes Lena..
Her serving in set 2 was actually pretty good and her groundies and passing shots were
vintage Lena and the thing that really impressed me, her confidence, she just went out and played ,no drama at all.
I also thought Beltrame played a much better game than Dinara and neither girl made
loadsa UEs ,Lena had 20 Winners!!!

Sep 2nd, 2004, 06:59 PM
1st Serve % 39 of 59 = 66 %

Aces 1

Double Faults 8

Unforced Errors 22

8 double faults are still too much.. she must improve her service! Apart this good luck in R3 :bounce:

Sep 3rd, 2004, 12:01 PM
She really should win this her current form is good, I hear she held serve every time during her doubles and in fact kept Ai alive in that match.
Her groundies are working and passing shots too! if she remembers to bring all this with her onto court ,then she will win!

Sep 3rd, 2004, 02:48 PM

Sep 3rd, 2004, 07:37 PM
well Lena gets a WO into R4

well had a feeling that might happen, bit of a shame really ,I know I am saying this now!! but I was sure Lena D would win fairly easily but did not want to jinx anything, but she is playing some pretty good tennis right now and having seen the other girls ,her Groundies are at a different level and her movement superb!
Currently watching Vera Z and I aint impressed at all, around 8DFs at least and her opponent is as bad ,she will not move! so heres to Lena into QFs I really believe if she steps up her game just a bit she will prevail.

Sep 3rd, 2004, 07:43 PM
too bad..... pity that Dechy retired, i loved to see Lena's match tonite

anyway Good luck ag. Vera Z. Lena!!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

A question: Why isn`t Lena wearing the black ribbon as the other Russians?

Her serve is troubling her yet again against Vera. Damn! But she will win although she lost the first set 6:1, but she won the second one 6:4 and it just goes up from here!

Oh and Lena has a very nice or dare I say sexy tan.

Sep 5th, 2004, 07:44 PM
The black ribbon must be for the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Russia.
Come on Elena, I felt so low when she lost the 1st set, and now she's leading 4-0 !!

Sep 5th, 2004, 07:46 PM
Lena leading 4-1 in Final Set

yeah that's what i was wondering also, why doesn't Lena wear the black ribbon, i have no clue at all

Congrats Lena with the win, hopefully you'll get Daniilidou now, i'm not to pleased with Momo at the other side of the net :scared: :scared: :scared:

Sep 5th, 2004, 08:32 PM
The black ribbon must be for the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Russia.

I know that, but I was wondering why wasn`t Lena wearing one.

Today she showed she`s a fighter. But then again we always knew that. Go Lena!

Sep 5th, 2004, 08:43 PM
Elena won 1-6 6-4 6-3 against Zvonareva :bounce: It seems she do the same match that against Dinara. She lost first set (nearly baggle) and win after. Congrats.

Sep 5th, 2004, 10:01 PM
me never seen other Russ wear black ribbon  any pics?

Sep 5th, 2004, 10:15 PM
Well for the first time when Lena palys Either Momo or Schiavone ,me expects it will be Momo, I will be quite relaxed as Lena has had a great USO Either way ,and reached her seeded position so will shut up all the doubters who say she shouldnt be ranked that high SHE IS A TOP TEN PLAYER, end of story ,in fact I believe she may well now be a top 5 player and if she plays Momo ,and I think she has a good chance to win there ,
but loses it will hardly be a disgrace ,Lena's attitude here is spot on ,she does not let a crappy first set worry her at all ,she gets on with it and plays better and better, her serve is definately improving ,68% first serves in this match, so not too bad at all, could be quicker, but Lena just is not a Serve dominated player ,she uses her incredible fitness and strength to pound out baseline rallies and retrieves like no one else on the tour ,she is bloody everywhere! (but sadly not in my house!!) .
So to Lena ,well done I am proud of You, whatever happens ,and BTW those pics up above are awesome ,she is incredible :hearts: :hearts: ,what a girl!!

Sep 6th, 2004, 12:47 AM
If you look carrefully in the picture posted by catalina (a big thanks for you) you can see the black ribbon (on her right). You have to look very carrefully. :) :p
and the match against Zvonareva was spectacular.
GO GO GO Elena :bounce: :bounce:
I'm french but you can win against Amélie Mauresmo :p

Sep 6th, 2004, 12:50 AM
me never seen other Russ wear black ribbon  any pics?

Have a look in the Maria picture thread for more:
Maria wore a ribbon in her match against Pierce and in her mixed doubles match.

BTW Well done Lena D on getting to the 4th Round :yeah:
Good luck against Mauresmo :D

This is from AFP (the big press agancy of France)

NEW YORK (AFP) - Russian tennis players wore a black ribbons at the US Open Saturday to honour the children of Beslan who were killed in a bloody end to a Russian hostage crisis. Sharapova, Svetalana Kuznetsova and Elena Dementieva wore the ribbons on Saturday. Kuznetsova, of St. Petersburg, said the players don't have official ribbons so they made them out of the black tape which they wrap around the grips of their tennis rackets.

Kuznetsova: "It is stupid people that are doing these things. Putting bombs on themselves going to schools and the metro. They might be in some kind of sect that teaches them how to die. Life to them means nothing."

Sharapova: "With what's going on in the world today, my loss is a little thing. The first day of September is the first day back at school. They go in with flowers and the whole family. All the kids, teachers, family have this big party. Unfortunately the terrorists decided to do something bad with those families and kids."

Dementieva: "It is just terrible. There are no words to describe it."

Sep 6th, 2004, 05:16 AM
I was at the match between Elena and Vera and I have to say that it was very painful to watch. There were just too many double faults, errors and breaks. Elena didn't hold serve until the 5th game of the 2nd set. It was just an ugly match all around. Vera was a tad upset afterwards. Okay a little more than a tad. I was standing talking to a friend as VEra was heading to the locker room and she was walking looking at the ground and smashing her racket off the ground over and over and over again.

Sep 6th, 2004, 11:22 PM
Well done Elena! I didn't expect her to beat Vera this time round. I hope she wins against Amelie Maurasemo in the QF! :D

And I'm impressed with Elena's doubles performance so far. She and Ai just beat Cara and Rennae (Wimbledon '04 champs and the no.3 seeds) 6-2, 6-4. I believe they have a good chance of making it to the SF stage in NYC :D

From US Open journalist

Don't be fooled by the never-ending riffs on how horrific Dementieva's second serve is. Yes, it's the worst second serve amongst the top 10, but as Vera Zvonareva said yesterday after her three-set loss to her older countrywoman, Dementieva's slice serve does stay low and is tough to crush, even if it's coming in at 65 mph.

Where Dementieva gets herself into real trouble is when she's double faulting a ton, like she did against Anastasia Myskina in the French final. When she gets in a rally, she's as powerful as anyone out there off both wings and runs like a gazelle.
:bounce: :worship:

Sep 8th, 2004, 12:15 AM

Those are strong words from Svetlana about the horrible terrorists and what they did to those they took hostage in the Beslan, Russia school. It's such a tragedy to kill people like that. Especially innocent children. But I hope the Russina's in the future don't publicly speak negatively about the terrorists because their emotions could get them to say something terrible about the terrorists. The terrorists deserve to be condemned by everyone. But these tennis players are public figures and easy targets so I hope they say how hurt they are by such tragedies but I hope they don't directly and publicly spew hate towards the terrorists. Let people like us speak out about the terrorists and how terrible they and their actions are. But I love how the Russina's showed their empathy for those killed and injured in the heinous Beslan terror attacks. These Russina's are very ncie and caring. :)

I`m in love with that forehand! And I like the owner of it as well :)

That was probably the best match I have ever seen. And honestly she was just better than Amelie. I was just waiting for Lena to take control of the match. Well she did that in the tie-break.I hope she recovers in time to play Capriati. I think it`s better that she plays Capriati than Serena.
