This is it. The tournament she and I have been waiting for all year long has arrived. This is Lindsay's best chance at a major since 2000. Lindsay wants it. I want it. You want it. Lindsay Mania. It all happens here.

Then possibly Myskina, then Henin-Hardenne in the semis. Told you this would happen! LOL. VERY tough draw for Lindsay.

:D :D Then possibly Myskina, then Henin-Hardenne in the semis. Told you this would happen! LOL. VERY tough draw for Lindsay.

COME ON LETS BE OPTIMISTS :D NOT PESSIMISTS:(

Lindsay can do this. Venus is nt playing well, knocked out of the olympics, Lindsay has just beaten her twice. Nyskina I don't see as a problem for Lindsay, she beat her 6-1, 6-1 last time. As for Justine, well Justine has t get there first and beat Sharapova, who is not playing that well, granted. Justine may have a gold medal but she is not that match tight. I reckon Lindsay can do this if she tells herself she can and plays like she did to take the last 4 titles.

SO, LETS HAVE POSITIVE VIBES FOR OUR QUEEN :worship:  :D :wavey:

if Lindsay's wrist is fine, and she continues playing how she has been all summer, then she should win, venus plays a match great one day, then plays awful the next, myskina isn't a problem, and justine still isn't back to where she was so if Lindsay continues playing like she has been she should beat her too, and also serena/Momo/jen or whoever.

i feel lindsay has a great chance, i'm so excited for this tourny to start, lets go Lindsay, win ur 4th grand slam :bounce:

LindsayRulez
Aug 25th, 2004, 09:01 PM
as for the whole Venus 4th round debaucle, I think that it's good in that if Lindsay beats her (if they both get there, that is) then Lindsay will have even MORE confidence. let's just wait and see what happens come the 4th round...best of luck to Lindsay!

 :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: what a shitty draw for Lindsay!!!:( :( :(

I am really pissed off. I don't know guys... im kind of like real negative here. Would would pleaaaaase make me feel a little more postive. I mean she's got 'THE WORST POSSIBLE DRAW EVER'. If someone had arranged the draw in order to make it REALLY hard for Lindsay to win it, then this would be it.
I know Im already mad before it even began but that's the way i feel.... and i can't seem a way to be a little more optimistic

Its not the easiest of draws but she can do it;)

The draw sucks, but oh well. If she's playing her best she should still at least make the finals....

LethalLindsay
Aug 26th, 2004, 01:59 PM
I agree. I think the main key will be her confidence and state of mind. This was the main thing that kept her in all those matches during the summer. If she stays confident going in to the supposed semi against Justine and takes her then i think she will win the whole thing!
I'll still be a jumping, screaming mess through each of her matches! My friends and hubby HATE it when Lindsay's playing!
In fact I think my T.V has issued a restraining order against me for the duration of the Open! LOL

Guys.... i've been thinking about it. Yes, the draw sucks. But if Lindsay wins the whole thing it will be MUCH MORE satisfactory for her (and us fans) if she beats all those incredible players in-route to the championship. I mean I'd rather see Lindsay play against Venus and beat her than Paola Suarez. I think it is a postive attitude to take.
Plus... if she takes the title then she REALLY REALLY deserves it.... i don't know. There is not much we can do about it. Besides... you never know how the draw may unfold!

Joaco :D GO LINDSAY IN THE US OPEN!!!

I think the draw could be good for Lindsay actually, gets to build her confidence round by round rather than waiting for the semis or quarters to face a challenge. Go get it lindsay!!

Forever an optimist I guess!

Frederic
Aug 29th, 2004, 11:26 AM
Lindsay was stunning during the last few weeks, so let's hope she'll beat another time Venus in the 4th round. To me, she's got the toughest draw!!! Venus in the 4th round, Myskina in the 1/4, H² in the 1/2.... It might be too much for Lindsay... What's more, Venus is very proud when she plays against Lindsay, she doesn't want to loose anymore, and she'll try to play her best... Anyway, Lindsay is in better shape than Venus. The most important thing is to hope that Lindsay will be healthy, and she won't have knee, wrist.... problems during the us open!!!! Can somebody give us news about her wrist problem??

Andrew.
Aug 29th, 2004, 01:39 PM
Lindsay needs to remember that Venus sucks right now. She just lost to Pierce 6-4 6-4. That's really bad. Remember that, and win.

Lemonskin.
Aug 30th, 2004, 05:35 AM
I think Lindsay will walk it into the final. From there it's how much she wants it. I think with her game how it is now, she CAN beat anyone, but she's quite mentally fragile at times.

Lindsay fans... I'd be weary of the 3rd round.

QF Filderst. Oct 12 2003 E Bovina - L Davenport(3) 6-3 6-2
4 Indian W. Mar 16 2003 L Davenport(4) - E Bovina(13) 6-4 6-3
QF Moscow Oct 6 2002 L Davenport(3) - E Bovina-WC 3-6 6-3 6-3
QF US Open Sep 8 2002 L Davenport(4) - E Bovina 3-6 6-0 6-2
2 L. Angeles Aug 11 2002 L Davenport(3) - E Bovina-WC 6-2 6-73 6-3

A tight match in all of them.. except IW, there Bovina stunk.

Bovina's full of confidence, and is a different player now.

Just warning you guys to be careful of this one. :)

Just warning you guys to be careful of this one. :) Yes, but in 2002 Lindsay was just coming back from injury, and in 2003 she was injured. :)

But no doubt, Ms. Bovina will be her first test of the tournament.

Jan
Aug 30th, 2004, 02:11 PM
I am just wathing Bovina playing Dechy. I think Bovina will be a test for Lindsay but at the moment I think Lindsay will come through a match with her. This final has gone to three sets and it seems a bit like hard work to me and not a terribly thrilling final.

I think its how Lindsay plays Venus and how Venus's is playing that will be the key. I can't see her having problems with Myskina and then of course how is Justine playing after winning her gold medal.

Lets go to that title Lindsay, you can do this :)

Andrew.
Aug 30th, 2004, 02:43 PM
I think TCBY Treats was just trying to give us a friendly heads up.... And Bovina could be a test. If Bovina plays like she did against Dementieva in New Haven, Lindsay could have serious issues. It's just that Bovina only plays like that twice a year.

TimBo
Aug 30th, 2004, 05:26 PM
Not only will Lindz win this US Open, but I think she will do so in the same fashion as she did in 1998 and Wimby 1999-- not dropping a set. She is playing well and if u hear the interviews of some of the women, they are scared of Lindz.

TCBY Treats
Aug 30th, 2004, 05:41 PM
I'm just saying it's wrong to say "Lindsay will breeze to the final".

Bovina's style is to control every point. Lindsay won't be the attacker every point, like she usually is. Bovina isn't afraid of Lindsay. Bovina doesn't think on court, she's too ditzy. She just hits. Watch Bovina against Dementieva. If that Bovina shows up, Lindsay's got a major battle on her hands. Lindsay would have to bring the best tennis she's played this summer, to beat that.

However, I'm still 90% sure Lindsay wins this match. Lindsay's game is incredible this summer, and I know she's bringing her best to Flushing. Plus, there's a good chance Bovina's shots will be off... and she's known to put together 1 great set of tennis, then die for the rest.

I love Bovina eternally, but this is Lindsay's time. This could well be her final Grand Slam. I want Lindsay to win this. I'm just saying this is a dangerous 3rd round opponent.

Not only does she look AMAZING, but she is playing the same way she did this summer, she is hitting the ball the same way - I love it! Look at these numbers: serving at 70%, 8 aces, 3 doubles, 17 errors and 36 winners, winning 93% of first serves, 15 of 18 at net, and didn't face a break point!

She was also being funny as usually during her interview. Michael Barkann asked her about getting the 50% bonus and she said "yeah the money's nice, my husband loves it, no just kidding..." LOL she cracks me up!

SHE LOOKS WONDERFUL AND IS PLAYING BEAUTIFUL TENNIS!

pfff! didn't see the match!? I was at work since I work evenings. I'm not sure what time it was on, but I was hoping that the mens match before it would drag on a little. So I guess I was hoping for around about a 10pm start (UK time)....even if it did, I didn't get home from work until 10.50pm and the match was 50mins long! Eurosport didn't show the match!!!! But when I see the statistics, I'm sure it's was an excellent match, as usual!!! But I think that the biggest threat for Lindsay is still Justine. Venus can be a threat too, because if she plays more than two hours against Venus, she'll be tired and she won't play like she use to, and she'll be mentaly fragile. To me, Bovina can't really be a threat for Lindsay, I saw her final against Dechy, when Nathalie made her run, Elena was obliged to make sliced backhands and forehands. I hope she won't drop a set, and she be in final!!!!! go Lindsay!!!!!!!!

US Open Series Men's Champion Lleyton Hewitt and US Open Series Women's Champion Lindsay Davenport receive their awards during a ceremony kicking off evening play on Tuesday, August 31st in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Davenport, Hewitt Honored as US Open Series Winners
by Jason Brown
Tuesday, August 31, 2004
Lindsay Davenport and Lleyton Hewitt, the champions of the inaugural US Open Series, were honored Tuesday night at the US Open with trophies commemorating their remarkable achievement.

Davenport began an amazing hard court run playing in her home state of California, claiming consecutive US Open Series titles at the Bank of the West Classic and the JPMorgan Chase Open en route to the US Open Series women's title.

The veteran American tallied a total of 100 bonus challenge points, and secured the US Open Series title on the virtue of a tie-break - Davenport's total of nine US Open Series match wins were four more than the second-place player Amelie Mauresmo of France.

Hewitt gathered steam throughout the US Open Series, and capped the series with a bang, claiming wins in the final two US Open Series men's events, the Legg Mason Tennis Classic and the TD Waterhouse Cup, to earn enough bonus challenge points to narrowly edge past Andy Roddick.

The Aussie finished the US Open Series with 155 bonus challenge points and also won a match-win tie-break over second-place Roddick.

In Arthur Ashe Stadium, USTA Chief Executive, Professional Tennis Arlen Kantarian presented Davenport with her award, while USTA Executive Director and COO Lee Hamilton anointed Hewitt as the men's winner.

If Davenport or Hewitt should go on to win the 2004 US Open, each could pocket $500,000 of US Open bonus prize money.

The US Open Series is the six-week summer tennis season including 10 ATP and WTA Tour professional tournaments in North America leading up to and linked to the US Open, including the potential for the top men's and women's finishers to earn up to $1.3 million in US Open bonus prize money. The top men's and women's finishers in the series will receive 50 percent more of whatever they win in singles at the US Open; the second-place finisher receives 25 percent more; and the third-place finisher receives 10 percent more.

Henman, Davenport Charge Ahead, Safin Stunned
(..)

Henin-Hardenne and Davenport are considered the tournament's favorites. US Open Series leader Davenport has won four straight hardcourt titles coming in here, including Stanford, Carson, Carlsbad and Cincinnati.

"It's been an unbelievable lead up this summer and came relatively unexpected to me. The comparison would be 1998," said Davenport, who won the US Open title that year. "I hope history repeats itself. I can be nothing but supremely confident."

 LMAO @ lindsay's top! I just seen two of her press conferences on the USOpen website and she was wearing that same outfit - bless her.

If you go to: http://www.usopen.org/en_US/news/interviews/index.html You will find two interviews with Lindsay. One is a solo interview regarding her 1st round match and the other is a joint interview with Lleyton. Lindsay was laughing in both interviews. The one with Lleyton was quite funny in a couple of places. What was really funny was Lindsay was the first to be asked a question which took about a minute.....the segment of the interview on the website is 7 mins long.....and for the rest of the interview Lindsay is just sitting there looking on at Llyeton is asked all the questions. Then about 20seconds towards the end of the stream, one kind interviewer said something like: "I think it's time Lindsay was asked a question" to which her and Lleyton started to laugh.

I liked watching the interviews but I can't really make out what the interviewers are asking, so sometimes the answers don't make sense. I usually read the questions from the transcript first but there are no transcripts on the website and the asap transcripts archive just link straight to the USOpen website.

If you can, watch the interviews because they are well worth it!

Well davenport did say(when she faced Serena in the final a month ago), that in the locker room before thier match they were chatting. Yeah USA network interviewed her on court after she won and he asked her about the extra money bonus and she said "yeah my husband really likes it...NO just kidding" and she also talked about the pendant on her necklace that says "wife." She's been wearing it since Wimbledon I think, but I know at least since Stanford. She said it's been good luck so she's going to keep wearing it even though it started out as a joke lol

yep she played bad today but parra deserves some credit too. i was surprised to see a spaniard playing so aggressive! at the end it was only a matter of concentration, she should have won 6-0 second set ;)
i'm confident lindsay will raise her game's level next match. she knows bovina may be dangerous! GOO LINDSAY GIRL!! :) :) :)

Go to the transcripts thread for the latest. Lindsay mentions how she has to "up" her game against Bovina.

Lindsay is very familiar with Bovina's game which is an advantage. Whereas with her second round match, Lindsay had only seen Santonja play on clay during Roland Garros - that's a different story all together! Lindsay didn't know how the Spanyard would translate her game onto the hard court.

I think Lindsay will still win the 3rd round in 2 but a little closer...6-3, 7-6...or something like that. I see Lindsay's nearest rivals are having tougher matches....Justine and Mauresmo have both had 3-setters, and Venus had a tough couple of 2-setters. Lindsay seems to be the more rounded player out of the "big guns".

Go Lindsay :bounce:

Some nerve wrecking moments in the first set, but she never dropped serve and on faced a couple of bp's. A great "warm-up" match for things to come and she didn't get negative at the fact that the first set was close because she upped her game when she needed to and closed it out 6-2 in the second!

he he re: that 3rd pic - the commentators were saying with Lindsay you never know what she's thinking because her facial expressions are always the same - then the night minute you could hear her swearing or at least getting very angry with herself <g> I thought perfect timing :)

We got Henman's match then Williams/Rubin and then finally after all that we got Davenport/Bovina :)

So I managed to tape it <g> It was a good tough match for Lindsay - the type of match she needed before playing Venus.

That match against Venus will most likely be the night match (Labour Day - Monday).

Sep 5th, 2004, 08:04 PM
Lindsay played very well against Lena yesterday. Bovina was playing tennis that served up the breadsticks nice and hot to Dementieva in yesterday's first set.

Venus is worrying me though. Lindsay needs to establish dominance early, and take the first set with a break. Again, keep going to that forehand side, and also try to come into net more. Crush VEE's confidence. If she does that she should go through the second set pretty well. Lindsay can't make too many errors though. Play like she did tonight, and she should do pretty well.

Those two Russians in the past have bothered Lindsay's type of game - so if she can get past Asagoe it will be an interesting match to watch. Plus she'll be in the same position she was last year - so she won't lose any points.

Ah gambling now we are talking, I've also had £100 on Lindsay at 7/1 so if she wins I'll get £800 back. She's now the favourite at around 5/4 but that's mainly because she looks to have the easiest quarter final. It's possible that Lindsay may have a reaction to her classic Venus encounter and be caught unawares by Asagoe but this looks a different Lindsay so I doubt it. Someone is going to have to play exceptional to beat her as she held herself together very well against Venus and will not beat herself this time.

Andrew.

Considering the quality of the opposition, Lindsay was awesome. Although she wobbled in that final game she dug deep and came through with great determination. Lindsay in this form is unplayable and so deserves this title. My one regret is that more of the big name players are not left in the draw as I'm pretty certain that at this moment Lindsay is the best player in the world and would have beat each and everyone of them.

this is so not fair... i cant believe this PLEASE DONT RETIRE No, this is it. It was her last shot at a major, and it was completely open for her. Mentally, this is just crushing. I'm not sure how this injury will be in the longterm, but mentally, it's end.

Andrew.

Her attitude also sucked hard after she blew the 3-0 lead in the third set. I'm not even sure just how much the injury actually effected her, but her attitude was just bad.

Lindsay said she'd probably play the Open next year. I don't understand this reasoning. She says that she doesn't want to be a Tier II whore and suck in the big events, but hello... She had two golden opportunities to take slams this year and got zero. I don't know how she'd be able to contend for slams once all the top players are back and healthy.

I should have known she wouldn't pull it off. She never does so why would this be any different? Yes she was slightly injured but you don't blow 3-0 lead because you're hurting, you play through it. I have done this many times with my netball games. You just forget about it.

But Lindsay's attitude sucks when things don't go her way. I'd have thought at 28 she would've grown up by name. The Russian players have more fighting spirit in their big toe than Lindsay.

Hmmmm Contravertial! :tape: But i probably think you are right.......lindsay has got to get posititve......i dunnoe why she cant do that! she only needed 3 more games! It sems to me lindsay just throws it all away when ever there is a possible chance that she may not win....good oppertunities that shouldnt be thrown away!

Do we think lindsay would throw her "bat" down when she wasnt winning in the juniors!??!!

Well, let's see.................she is the hottest player on the tour.............has a clear shot at another grand slam..................has been injury free for 7 months and has clearly stated before that that is the sole reason she is enjoying the tennis and playing so well..................and then injures herself a couple of hours before the match............................................

Yep, no reason to be crying between changeovers and having a bad attitude because you can't even get to the ball..............no reason at all!

she was 3-0 up, If she could have just focused on ther serve, just gettin the first blow in for the rest of the match, it might have been a different story. But i guess she must have been pissed at yet another injury at a crucial moment :fiery:

:( I just can't believe what I have just read:rolleyes:

She was obviously in pain if you bothered to look at her facial expressions, even towards the end of the first set.

If you were in pain every time you moved wouldn't it just affect your mental state a little!?

It was such bad luck, that match was hers if she had not had the injury just before the match.

I think she will make up her mind on retirement at the end of the year as originally intended.

We should be supporting her through this loss not slagging her off on her mentality:mad:

Jan, seriously, how many times have we already seen her with that injury?

what kind of injury did she have during the Australian Open of 00?

And i AM still supporting her, she will always be my #1, win or lose, but i don't think it's a crime to say that i think she lost that match cause she didn't believe she could win it with that injury

In 2000 she won when she had strained her hamstring / thing at the Adidas International - and she continued to wear taping through the AO as precaution - but in that case it was just a mild strain and she even said it was precautionary and didn't affect her play.

happy about putting a bet on lovely linds after loss at wimby, she was 35-1 for winning the us open. £100 quid on for me.
That would be nice it means i could actually afford broadband........
OOOOOOOOh the excitement its too much for meeee
Hope someone is taping all of linds' matches, as i will be needing THEM ALL!

Only prob if she does win, the money goes into my mates online betting account, hope he doesnt run off and rob me :(

Lene, sorry I'm late with this one but I was away for Fri/Sat but if you ever find yourself in the fortunate position of holding a 35/1 ticket for what in the UK was an odds on shot always lay off. Before the semis Lindsay was about 8/11 to win the tournament, in the UK we have a site ******* which I think you could access from Australia, in affect if you had layed Lindsay ( that is a betting term for betting on her to lose! ) with say £1500 then you would be in the position of if Lindsay wins you get £3600 - 1500 = £2100 profit and if she loses you get about £2000 - £100 = £1900 profit. ie a damned good profit no matter what. If it's any consolation I also blew £100 on Lindsay again and Loughyonijen did his/her cash as well.

I totally agree with this, Lindsay only plays well in tournaments she enjoys or wants to win. ie The US tournaments particularly California and the Slams. Why not just play them and be mentally and physically fit? I would even go as far as saying don't go to the French Open as she obviously hates it, doesn't think she can win it and can't wait to get home. Is she contracted to play so many tournaments? She has proved this year that when fit she can beat anyone, bar the Belgians who she has not played for ages, she has nothing to fear and can still win a Slam.

Andrew.

Man i never knew that with bet fair......it never entered my head you could make money on betting her to lose!

Yeah guys i did put £100 on linds to win way back in july....just after wimbledon.....i thought she looked so good at wimby when i saw her, i couldnt resist for the Us Open........but still only got odds off 7/1.....so in effect if she had won i would have earned my self a nice little £800! But never mind eh.........its back to uni in 2 weeks.......just less beer for me to drink!

But boy did it make watching lindsay's games more exciting!

Linds............ya still awesome......get well soon :D

Could not agree more, I also got 7/1 and would have cut my left arm off to get the 35/1 that Lene got for the US Open. I actually cut my right arm off to get 30/1 for Wimbledon so am now one armed. In truth ******* is very rough and shark infested so stay away until you have left University. However
some of the guys on this forum are very sharp and know their stuff, Andrew's assessments won me £500 at Wimbledon but Lindsay's defeat in the semi cost me that plus another ton. Overall though with Lindsay's great summer I am about £400 up on my Lindsay bets. Cheers Lindsay.

I lost my bet on Lindsay too, but I was more concerned about the type of injury she had. Some you can play with more easily than others. It was just so unfortunate that it happened in practice just before the semi.

Also as you get older your body can't take injuries the same and it takes longer to get over them and you have to be careful not to make them worse, at least she finished the match :worship:
