Match of the tournament. :worship:
From 4-3 for Justine in the second set on, this was top class tennis, the rallies were hard, accurate and endless!
Anastasia led 5-1 in the third set, then Justine came back to 5-5 and Anastasia started crying.
The crowd was packed and was going crazy, if Justine needed ANY test to know where she is at, this was it, Anastasia played smart and Justine had to give ALL during 2h45.
I wonder if the Justine will have enough energy left for the final and Anastasia for the bronze medal match... :scared:
Congrats to both ladies.

GO FOR GOLD BABY! :D

Also I don't think I've ever seen Justine smile at such a crucial stage in the match, she was clearly relaxed and perhaps that helped her come through it, even at 5-1.

Did you see the match? Justine was visibly tiring at the beginning of the third set and the commentators thought she'd lost it, then she got her second wind but even then she was visibly having trouble breathing and put her hand to her heart a couple of times. She got through that match from sheer guts, not from drugs or lies or whatever you're implying. If you didn't see the match, and I suspect you might not have, I'm even less impressed with your post: it's just not fair to make judgments on matches you've not even seen.

A pathetic choke. Myskina should be ashamed.

On the other hand, Henin-Hardenne deserves credit for fighting like a lion. She may not be close to playing like she was before the illness, but she has just as much physical strength and mental toughness.

If Maueresmo beats Molik, she'll win Gold. Her record versus Henin is very good.

With pleasure umgh, you are quite dumb here  , She didnt just get better before this tournament, or just pick up the racket, when a player goes out in a long layoff, when they come back, they usually make sure they come back healthy and feel good, that means usually even if they have recovered from an injury or illness they train for weeks to get back physically before they actually play a match profesionally, It took Justine a while to come back, she is a fighter, she always has been, she came back and won, sure Natsya is tough and I give her props, I love the girl, but there are much tougher opponents than her and this sort of situation has happened before, maybe not exactly but it has.

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I stayed at the office (AGAIN!) to watch the match and when it was 1-3 in the thrid set, the cleaners kept checking if I were going....and I thought, fxxx it, she could take the 2nd set when she served for it and now a break now, might as well let the cleaners get on........

Came home and was going to check the damage....but WTF! I am over the moon!!!

Myskina was play VERY well from latter part of 2nd set. Never gave up. Justine on the other hand was playing awful. One error after another. Myskina truely deserved to win that set.

But WTF (sorry, I just can't believe it)! I know it's doing her no good for tomorrow's match but this the kind of match she really needs to get her mentality back to her old standard.

I really hope Myskina will take bronze, she's worth at least that. I can actually imagine the disappointment when she lost.

Does anyone know if any replay of the match later tonight? I know BBCi replays some tennis after 9ish. Really hope I can witness the match!

Well done JUSTINE!!!! Well play Myskina!

Its not a good idea for you if you play in the Olympics and take performance enhancing drugs, WADA's gonna catch you and you get humiliated. thats why many top athletes decline in playing in the olympics.

so definitely its not the case, its just the Justine we know who had the biggest heart full of courage and determination and NErves of steel to handle pressure and play excellently on important points.

They were both in and out of zone throughout. Nastya's break at 4-4 in the second set was the best game I have seen in years, Justine went flat in the third and Nastya went up a gear. Then at 5-1 up Nastya went out of zone and started spraying the balls wildly again and Justine started playing and serving better, Nastya went back into zone to hold for 6-5 with calm and precise play but by then Justine was back too at nearly her best. If Nastya had had a cry a bit earlier and then produced her 6-5 game at any point between 5-1 and 5-5 she might well have won. Did she think of winning and want it too much or did she just rundown or forget how she was winning when she was playing very cooly and out rallying Justine?

We're not talking about olympic spirit thing.

If you're taking drugs the olympics are not the place to come too.
It's the place were the most doping test are taking place.

Lot's of sporters are already caught. (especially in weightlifting)
And remember the greece tragedy story about their sprinters seeking an excuse for not going to a doping test.

Ok! so we are on the same camp, but please dnt act like this.
no need to question this victory because we have experienced it before fromour JUJU.

and besides, just to tell, there were already half a dozen atlethes being strip and disqualified in the olympics for using drugs. thats how strict they are and knowing that justine had been tested like any other players before the olympics, then we should have known by know if she is guilty of it...Alas, she is not because she is clean.

As if all drug users are caugh, the more money you have the more you can take enhancing substances and not be taken in the net of the CIO.

You don't get it....

She's the number one (most controlled player)...The olympics are the number one place in the world concerning doping tests.

So if she's taking drugs it would be really stupid of her to come to the olympics as number one player cause the chance exist (how refined and futuristic the doping is) she would be trapped.

So no...I don't believe she's taking drugs. She proved that to me by coming to the olympics. She could easily have used an excuse (her ilness). And really tennis wise the olympics aren't the big thing in tennis.

Well, this is what I call a "historic" achievement. This definitely was one of the most thrilling matches in the past few years. And what a comeback, I bet nobody still expected her to win, though you never know with those little Belgians. Don't know how she did it, but it was amazing. My whole family started yelling shen she got that matchpoint and they aren't even real tennis fans;)

Please stop this "she might be taking drugs" discussion. Anyone can see that Justine just puts everything she has in a match. "I wanna win even if I die right here on the court", is written all over her face. She's just killing herself, and I guess her recent illness might have been a consequence of all those exhausting matches. But drugs? Justine? No.

Wow Justine. You are the MOST INCREDIBLE fighter tennis ever had. I can't believe how much guts and tenacity she showed during that game. She poured all of her heart and her body into her game, and she finally won. Kudos to Myskina, she played great, but Justine was just too tough to overcome.
Man Man Man... This is why I love that girl. Get well rested, and get ready for tomorrows showdown with hopefully Mauresmo.
This girl has shown her love and passion for tennis. May the best happen to her career.

I can't believe some posters in this thread. Man, can't you just let it go? Can;t you just go hate elsewhere and let REAL tennis fans enjoy one of the greatest game and come back from Justine? And the drugs accusations? That's just plain pathetic.

What a match  :D I was literally trembling at the end.

Sofiane, you say she is not the only one. I'm guessing you are also referring to other tennis players who take drugs. Maybe you have the guts to name them too? Plus, I don't think you have seen the match, because otherwise you would have seen that she was definitely tired from the end of the second set on. Myskina just let her back in. And yes, we Justine fans know what mone does to a body. We have seen her matches in Roland Garros.

Oh and the people who bash Myskina. Djeez, this is just sports... Yes she should have won, but she also made sure there even was a third set. She must be devastated right now. So I really feel for the girl and I really hope she takes the bronze, because she deserves it for this match alone.

But WTF (sorry, I just can't believe it)! I know it's doing her no good for tomorrow's match but this the kind of match she really needs to get her mentality back to her old standard.

I agree, that's what I believe as well. The Aus open match against Lindsay was a turning point for Justine. I feared that when she came back after her illness, she'd struggle mentally until she won another marathon match. I feared it would take a long time for this match to happen. I'm extremely pleased Justine got the marathon match under her belt, one she needs mentally.

People didn't think Justine stood a chance at the US Open in the final, after the long match against Jennifer, but these kind of matches make Justine stronger so I think this is actually very promising for the final.

But I have to agree with you about the tennis gods and goddeses. Any fairness in them at all and Nastya will get the bronze. Fantastic match today!

Are you the third "twin" ;) ? I´ve finally started laughing again...I mean good chance that 66,66 % of the podium is filled with my faves, so this is something which I (sorry, we) should be looking forward to, isn´t it?
Haha, yeah i totally agree with you're posts and i'm glad you're laughing again. I have never had a match where I felt so much emotion both ways before.

I'm hoping Nastya can take the bronze so all the podium is filled with my favourites :worship:

it's a shame that whoever would have won this match will be sooo tired tomorrow. i love mauresmo and all but the winner of this match needs to win tomorrow. but it's just like when Momo beat Justine at the WTA Championships and then was out to lunch in the finals versus Clijsters. :fiery:
Remember US Open 03? Justine can do it!

Once a champ, always a champ. Henin did the same thing to Capriati at US open. Myskina's cute and clever game cannot hurt Henin's. She can get away with it with youngsters like Sharapova and Zvonavera. But Henin is just as clever and cute as Myskina' except she has lethal weapons...her power game.

The only thing I am pissed about is Nastya giving up her lead in the third, but still...Juju served for the match in the second, so why not proud of both of them?

Like I mentioned before, this was Nastya´s fourth semifinale apperance at four tourneys in four weeks...or better say in the last six tourneys she won a trophae, reached one final and three semifinals and we are talking about a Grand Slam, two Tier Is and the Olympics. This is not bad! :D

Yeah, thats what annoyed me about Nastya too....I mean 5-1 up, to lose a lead like that must be heartbreaking

Still, thanks for looking on the bright side, its been a great year for Nastya, I hope she does well at the US Open :worship:

Congrats Justine, you are truly a champion. It's amazing that she can comeback and do this on hardcourts in Athens.

Venus take note of Justine!! :fiery:

Yeah, just read an article which said that Nastya was sitting in the press conference room with a few tears running down her cheeks and red eyes...makes me really sad, but well, one had to lose
