Ok, just been thinking about things, 1998 has always in my mind been one of my favorite years...why? davenport, hingis, novotna, sanchez-vicario were the 4 major winners of the year and they finished ranked 1-4, i just think it is awesome when that happens, i can realistically see someone other than anastasia, justine, or maria winning the USO, but i also don't foresee maria as a top 4 by the end of the year, which is too bad...so it looks like 4 different winners ranked 1-4 won't happen, but anyway here are the years i can remember with 4 different slam winners:
1998:
aus-hingis
fra-sanchez-vicario
wim-novotna
uso-davenport

1999:
aus-hingis
fra-graf
wim-davenport
uso-s. williams

and i can't think of another time that it has happened! can anyone think of another year? and does anyone think that it will happen this year as i do? momo and lindsay as top possibilities to win, and serena a close third, with russian potential w/ a venus on the side, definitely could happen....let me know

i very much think that it will also happen this year. Although Justine is back in fine form i think it will either be a Williams or Davenport that wins the US Open, Mauresmo is also a chance

1977 had FIVE (5) different winners!!! (the Australian was switched in the calendar that year, so it happened in January and December). ;)

Not as bizzard as this year. Justine won Australian Open no doubt, and whoever won that open seems to be doing well the rest of the year. But the disaster will strike as she was upset in RG as #1 in the world. And then went to to skip Wimbledon which let 2 Russians storm through the draw to win slams beating a Williams on the way. But Justine seems to be the most in form right now and she'll probably win US Open, and hopefully her name wont start with a "K" this time.

I think it might well happen this year, although I'd give all three slam holders a good change at the U.S.Open, I think Davenport and Mauresmo have to be the favourites.

Lemonskin.

looks likely that it could be four different winners.

i suppose lindsay will be the #1 seed?

I agree with you on this aspect.
The USO has probably gotta be one of the most open competition in recent years.
It'll be interesting to see who'd lift the GS at this year's USO.

I don't think it'll be one of the faviourites. Nastya and Maria winning slams was unexpected. I think it'll be someone totally out of the blue.
