I say Justine wins this in straight sets. Venus was her only threat and since Venus was gone yesterday, I see no one standing in her way for the gold medal.

The last time she played Amelie Mauresmo, she lost in 3 sets. I think that's the final, and I also think it's going to be a good final, because Amelie is playing some pretty good looking ball right now, and if she serves well, it could be a firecracker of a match featuring the two best one-handed backhands in the women's game. I hope they both get there!!!!:bounce:

I think the key to this match is Myskina's head, in which Justine has resided for quite a while. One of my favorite matches to watch is their match at last year's Champs when Myskina was up 5-0 in the first. :haha: They showed an interview at that exact time where Anastasia says something like "with her, you have to play every point, doesn't matter whether it's 4-4 or 5-0!" :haha: Oh my! Myskina beat the holy crud out of her racquet!

That being said, though, I've been VERY impressed with the way she's kept her head since then, particularly closing out a poorly playing Dementieva at the French. That can really jack you up.

Personally, I think it's a toss-up, but my money's on a 3-setter either way. :)

But that's the point; she could get out of her slump at any time and when she does, I don't thnk you will hear those top players saying they want to play her, espeically those who have losing records against her and that is everyone execpt Maria (0-0) and Lindsay (12-12)

Yes Amelie won in three sets and went on to lose either 6-2, 6-2 or 6-1, 6-1 to Kim in the same tournament.
Actually, Amelie defeated Justine in 3 tough sets in the semis, I think it was a second-set tie-breaker where Justine actually had match points, and then Amelie won the third set as Justine seemed to fade and lost all her energy. This was the start of the illness for Justine, and it showed in that match- very hard to watch because they both played well up until the end of the second set. Then Amelie lost to Lindsay Davenport in the final, not Kim.

I think Justine has the edge. I don't know it's just a gut feeling, but she did defeat a tough Mary Pierce to get there, so I think she is in top form and on fire.
Myskina had more of a cakewalk, but it's gonna be interesting. I hope Bravo shows this match, as well as the Momo-Molik one, them american pigs

still recovering my ass. You don't beat Mary Pierce in straight sets after she had beaten Venus Williams in straight sets unless you are near peak form. Justine will win 6-3; 6-4 or something. The only reason she will lose so many games is because she isn't match tough enough yet to give Myskina the usual 6-1; 6-1 beating.

Aug 19th, 2004, 09:57 PM
wow... i get to my 2 cents in now.... we have the typical nastya haters with mboyle and a few others i've seen around... ;)

i love all these facts and stats that are being tossed around between nastya being 2-5 against henin in her career..... has nastya played her since may?? when she started her french open run???? i think not, and that is the difference here.... this is no longer the nastya that lost to the top 10 opponents in front of her.. she's different, more confident, more composed, and that is why she's been taking down all the top players in the world in the past 2 or 3 months. 2 strong wins in Fed Cup, then Finals in San Diego, then Semi-finals in Montreal, and then Semi-finals in Sopot before the withdrawal. She is the most elite, consistent player in this tournament and she shows the necessary skills and game to beat anyone... that's a no-brainer.

for all of you who think henin will have a cakewalk is sadly mistaken...... i actually think nastya will take this in 2......

we'll just see..... :drink:

an injury is not an excuse saying that you are tired and blaming losing a match because of being tired is an excuse
LOL... that's hysterical.

first off nastya just said she was exhausted and couldn't fight and give the fans 100%....

so many weak players nowadays with all their injuries... that's an excuse. it's a weakness.... if you can't play hurt, that's unfortunate. but to say what nastya did is an excuse is ridiculous... at least she's playing tennis and not making excuses instead of pulling out of numerous matches minutes before (or during a match) to say that i'm too injured to play.... now that's an excuse.

selking

like another poster said, I wish it were the final. This one will be close. Everyone knows Henin is a fighter. And Myskina, I believe, will fight as hard as she does when she's playing other Russians. Myskina plays with a LOT of national pride, and it should show in this match. I don't expect her to collapse like she did at Indian Wells. Here's my breakdown:

Justine:

1. Has come back much stronger than anyone expected. Hardly appears as though she's missed a beat.

2. Playing against Myskina in the past, Henin had the edge.

Myskina:

1. Is a different player after winning the French. Haven't seen her beat herself since the French. Her loss to Davenport in San Diego was caused by her struggle the previous night.

2. Myskina is a great fighter when the right motivation exists (playing other Russians). I think Olympic glory provides similar motivation.

This one has all the makings of a GREAT match.

thats cause i dont care about the williams. I dont like themi don't see belgians in your signature either but you want them back only to beat nastya who you hate more (that was your first post).
my point was that haters like you were praying williamses to stop russian winning earlier but they didn't succeed a lot, now you are praying belgians to stop nastya only because you hate her, not because you are a belgian's fan

once again nastya in 2..... henin is playing extremely well, but it's nastya like she's never seen her before..... nastya wants to be #1 and henin can't handle a russian with an attitude and representing the entire nation of russia... she's a proud woman our nastya... :) :drink: :woohoo:

Nice post! :yeah:
To all the Nastya fans: Stop defending yourself, the Justine fans donīt do it either, cause defending a top-player is just not necessary!

But if you notced I don't defend Nastya (and myself) from Justine's fans - they are respectful as a whole, I defend Nastya from her haters who are on Justine's bandwagon only because they hate Nastya more. I think Nastya should be defended from them. And probably you would have done the same if Nastya wasn't playing with your other fav and you don't wan't to take sides here;)

You're right in your analysis. Being an all-out Justine and Nastya fan I think I can confirm what you said: most Justine fans I know of on GM or Justinetime also love Nastya or have named her as their second fave. They appreciate her class, her unpretentious beauty, her chessplayer-like strategic genius on a court and her fluid strokes. I think most of them would be able to live with the prospect of Justine losing (temporarily ;)) her number 1 rank to her. So don't worry about the bandwaggoners, they're never worth anyone's precious time. Still, I'd rather Justine and Nastya had met in the final instead of the semis. Man, I would love to see the two girls standing together on the podium.

OMG...itīs like weīre one and the same person  ...no one can say that tennis doesnīt connect people to each other! Iīve noticed it as well that there are a lot of Justine fans who have a lot of respect for Nastya (thanks!). I donīt know really why, maybe because of Leipzigī03? Nastya being the one who ended her 20+ winning streak with that glamorous win (by the way the match which turned me into a Nastya fan;)). I really love Justine fans for their respect for players who often get their own fave into big trouble (YECī03), not only Nastya but also e.G. for Momo, Kuznetsova...itīs so cool and we/I appreciate it!!! Iīm just thanking myself by that... WOOHOOO...Nastya and Justine on one podium...go for it!!!

Nastyafan: Lol, yeah. I would understand why Juju fans would try to bash Nastya fans (though there isnīt even one!), but to see just the "other" fans bashing Nastya is just totally sick and stupid. Kinda interesting that those unreasonable plain haters are always fans of some special players, isnīt it??? Just please shut up:tape:

1) But we are one and the same person  (I'd rather you'd used a 'love' smilie than an eek-one though ;) )
2) How right you are, no need to name the 'some special players', hi, hi   On second thought shouldn't I give other posters a clue? Oh, never mind...
