She has never lost before the SF, but I am not sure that she will even get past the fourth round. She will most likely be seeded 11 and I don't know if that is giong to help her.

Ask again when the draw is out.

The draw comes out on Wednesday, August 25, so I got a head start.

Ok, I'll answer you then, though my answer will probably be "I don't know", 'cause with venus you never know. She might lose first round but she can reach the semis or the final too, though I doubt it.

I said I was getting a head start. If it turns out that she isn't going to play (which I doubt), then I am going to delete this thread.

Where is the option "She won't play"? :)

Why wouldn't she play?

She never gave any inidication that she won't; if she wasn't going to play, the poll wouldn't have been started in the first place.

Exactly.

Don't pay this person any attention.

I don't know. But if you start a poll like this one before the draw is out and play has begun, certainly there should be such an option. :)

Do you think people need your advice? I don't think so. :)

Liz it depends. Quite frankly, Venus can win the tournament in straights, or lose in the 4th round in straights.

It's all up to her.

She needs to not come into the big matches psyched out, or so jumpy. Whenever her opponent starts to mount anything close to a challenge, Venus has tightened up.

Venus needs just to relax and make them play by her rules. Errors or no Errors.

Thats the other thing. She needs to survive through her errors better. That's the thing that made her so dominate in 2000, 2001, and even 2002. She would survive through her errors, and keep hitting through the ball, knowing that eventually they'd go in.

This year whenever she makes errors she gets caught up in the fact that she's making them, and not just focusing on correcting her mistakes.

Venus doesn't need a new coach, she just needs to toughen up mentally.

What happens if she plays..Are you going to start using this thread to bamboo fans of other players too? Like what you did with all the other threads?

But back to the question. I shan't say how far vee would go. It'll only jinx her progress and as always, i would love to watch a good tennis match between top players...Therefore, i'm looking forward to seeing Vee in the USO.

Liz, to be honest with you I do not think she will be playing the Open and I hope i am right. she needs to pull away and go and work on her game. I guess Wimbeldon was not a wake up call for her. I hope to god this lost is.

I believe in Venus.:) I think she can win this tournament, and only Davenport can stop her.

Hmmm....her play at the majors has NOT been good this year. Some very odd losses when it mattered. I mean you can lose..but not in the third rounds and not to Raymond, Sprem and Pierce and not when your name is Venus Williams.

WeŽll see..if she can avoid a top 10 player, another thing: how in the heck hasnŽt Venus beaten a top 10 player yet in a full year now already?!, till the later rounds, then maybe she can make a run.

Vee needs to get her technique together on her forehand and serve, and in her current form I don't see her getting too far because it seems like as of late when the mathces get tough her technique breaks down.

Honestly, it's anyone's guess.

Although, if i were one of her opponents
I wouldn't underestimate her.

Her biggest weapon at the moment
is her unpredictability. You don't know
who you'll get, so if you're her opponent
don't assume anything!

Venus hasn't lost before the Semi's here and and that streak will continue and she will win!

Hard to say but I think this year is a scrap for Venus. She's just been to unfortunate with her injuries, and I don't think her confidence is high at all.

She usually plays a limited fall season, so hopefully she can rest and recover for the Aussie. But IMO this year just isn't her year.

If she gets a good draw quarters if she plays like in Athens :scared:

 RELAX PEOPLE!!!!! :o

:rolleyes: :rolleyes: :o @ these type of threads about Venus and the US Open that seem to be popping up everywhere at the moment. She's barely out of the Athens tournament and the US Open is a good distance away yet.I think we should all just give Venus a break for the time-being.It's doing all us fans no good to be discussing this yet as I've just really come to terms with yesterday's disaster.I don't wanna come here and see people saying that;
(A)Venus won't play
(B) She'll crash out in the first round and etc,etc....
Just give it a rest please,...now I'm calm again :wavey:

Only Venus will determine how far she will go. Sh ecan show up ready, consistant, and eager, and win the whole thing, or, she can show up inconsistant, moving poorly, and double faulting and be bounced in the 3rd Round...

I say Quarterfinals at best. I just hope her and Serena aren't in eachother's quarter of the draw.

I said the 3rd round, but I reserve the right to change that after the draw comes out. I would be really surprised if Venus gets that far.

Everybody knows she will play. I hope she doesn't hurt herself picking up her bag, bending over, something like that.

I said 4th Round but I really have this feeling that she will pull out of the US Open. I bet her head is spinning right now but this problem is totally fixable. It's all up to Venus.
