well this tourny is martina and lisa's
By no means a certainty. The joint world number 1's - Suarez and Vivi - are still in, Stubbs is a former world number 1, as is Sugiyama. Sugiyama and Huber beat Martina/Lisa in Wimbledon and I think with Asagoe, Ai could still come out on top. I wish Martina/Lisa well, but it will be tough for them.

I'm not shocked, Sveta/Elena often seem to choke in the latter stages of tournaments.
As for the medals, well, I hope, they go to Paola/Pato, Vivi/Conchita, Ai/Shinobu, but, that being said, it's a tough draw, and pretty much any of the teams could win. It'll be interesting to see how the tournament progresses.

Good win for Dechy and Testud, but to be fair this doesn't defend Testud against the critics. Most people who criticised her for taking Tati's place were talking about singles and agreed that Testud was the better doubles player. As far as I'm concerned, she got in by the rules, so she did nothing wrong but I would have thought better of her if she'd only played doubles. She knew full well that, whatever her injury rank, Tati would go further in the singles draw than she would, but she took her place anyway. That's not technically wrong, but it is quite selfish. Still, I like the way she plays anyway and I really want Nathalie to get a medal here, so this team's fine by me.
It makes the doubles draw quite interesting now. All of the other good teams - Conchi/Vivi, Martina/Lisa, Paola/Tarabini - aren't at their best on hardcourt. I'm really not sure who to predict to win. I think the Chinese team and also Sugiyama/Obata are in with a chance too. Lots of good and pretty evenly matched teams. It'll be interesting.
