lena certainly had her chances

she was 4-2 up and had about 5-6 gamepoints before she got broken :(

considering her injury she played very well but generally there were tons of UE especially from Myskina who is very lucky to have reached the quarterfinals

To all the people who have watched this match or seen the pics on gettyimages:

What collection is it that Myskina wore today? I couldn´t find it, is it her own?!? She said once after the FO win that she would probably get her own line. Take a look at the skirt, it has a special place where you can put the ball in like when wearing shorts...what is that?

The statistic says:
Myskina -51 UE
Danilidou -58 UE
so I don't accept that
there were tons of UE especially from Myskina who is very lucky to have reached the quarterfinalsjust accept the loss and don't be bitter

Well done Nastya you won a tough match against Eleni and the crowd:yeah:

It's Nike's outfit maybe with her advices. But definitely it's new, very nice and sexy:angel:

Damn over a 100 errors between two players in 22 games? Got to say this, Myskina is going to need tons of luck to win at least a medal.

Terrible stats......

Eleni too bad  but a good showing nonetheless. :) I hope there were enough fans there cheering her on.

Also, I have to say the stats don't always tell the story. It depends on thew scorekeeper. Many of the errors are forced and they ring them up as an unforced error. Also, it there are fifity hits in a rally and someone commits an error it's counted as an error.

They may be all the good you want, but one thing is sure, they make me change the channel or switch to other sports.

So now tennis Olympics is over for me unless Momo or Fran makes it. :bounce:

Well I've still got the doubles and the men (go Moya) to feel the olympic excitement :D

In case you haven´t read my (oh so weird and irritating) new thread yet...I take it back and I won´t call Nastya´s last match "The unforced error"-party anymore;)

A lot of people noticed that there are irritatingly high numbers of unforced errors in nearly every match which has been played...

We did a little bit of calculating while following Myskina´s match online and apparently it seems like that a lot of points are count as UEs, though it should be a forced error or whatever kind of "not so unforced" errors. They just count everyting in. When you count the UEs from the one player and the winners from the opponent together and see the difference between that number and the number of the total points there were only like 5 forced errors which is absolutely impossible.

Example: Venus vs. Pierce (Stats from http://www.nbcolympics.com/results/5041506/detail.html)

Venus total points: 67

UEs hit by Pierce: 34
Winners hit by Venus: 23

34 + 23 = 57 points...

Total points (67) - 57 = 10

Those 10 points then have to be considered as "forced errors", but you have to take away the 4 Aces from Venus and the 5 Service winners she hit...

10 - 9 = 1...

Basically that means that Pierce had to give just ONE point away due to a forced error!

-----------------------

Pierce´s total points: 76

UEs hit by Venus: 51
Winners hit by Pierce: 17

51 + 17 = 68 points...

Total points (76) - 68 = 8

Mary hit 2 Aces and 1 service winner...

8 - 3 = 5...

that means Venus had to lose 5 points due to a forced error.

I am pretty sure that something doesn´t really fit in this calculation, but I really have the feeling that the people over there count a lot of points as Unforced errors or they just don´t see forced errors at all...

Second example: Sprem vs. Sugiyama

Short version: Sprem got 55 of her total 59 points due to her 17 winners, the 30 UEs from Ai, her 5 aces and 3 service winners...Ai lost 4 points because of forced errors she commited!

Sugiyama received 71 of her total 75 points due to 64 (!) UEs from Sprem and her own 7 (!) winners. She didn´t hit an ace nor an service winner...which means Ai only forced Sprem four times to hit an error!

Is it only me or is this just weird?!? I guess I am the one who´s weird...they write a lot of points down by hand, so maybe this is the reason why it´s hard to tell which one is a forced error and which one isn´t...

Oh sour! "Boring" and "robotic" are about the last two words that come to mind wrt Myskina's game. I guess I'll have to give you "Russian" though. Fair enough.

The super outfit:

I meant that "pocket" at her hip, it´s interesting, now you won´t have to put the ball under your skirt, but you can actually just put it in;)...is it a pocket or this just nice to make a cut right through your skirt?

It´s really cool, looks like the perfect outfit for the summer, especially when you have a Nastya-like body and you can wear size xxs or 32...

Actually, Lena is Eleni's nickname! Her family all call her by that name and everyone in Greece knows as Lena Daniilidou, rather than Eleni! :p

yes the stats are terrible. But largely in the sense of being meaninglessly inaccurate - have a browse and you will see people with enormous error totals all over the place - they are counting according to some unknown definition they made up before they had a few drinks.

I know tastes don't follow cold logic but I would have thought that Francesca and Nastya had more similar games than almost anyone I can think of in the top 20. They are both extremely fast, very fit, get everything back, play creative tennis and even have the same weapons down the line. Francesca plays more like Momo at times butessentially they are in the same group I would have thought. They are both fighters and both are very patriotic. Both also have trouble serving at present and both have reported serving related injuries this year.Could be a very hard struggle tommorrow if both are playing well or badly.

Can't actually think of a robotic Russian - none appear on my list of metronomic players which is fairly long.

Spunky83, that's interesting stuff about the Olympic statistics. Thanks for bringing it to my attention! I'm sure you're correct that the unforced error count is being inflated after looking at the stats for several matches.

Also, that was a wonderful picture of Eleni and Anastasia... Eleni looks VERY fit! I'm sad that she lost, but this was a good effort for her. I hope her form carries over into her next tournaments, because she's such a talented player. I believe if she works on her fitness and improves her movement and serve, she's good enough to be top 10 (or at least a solid top 15 player). Her results are maddeningly inconsistent, though. I always hear she struggles on modern surfaces, but it seems to me when she is in bad form, she plays poorly regardless.

Anyway, keep it up Eleni! :hearts:

And well done, Anastasia! :yeah: She seems to be struggling a bit lately, but the winning is what counts. Pulling out tough matches will do wonders for her confidence, I hope. Good luck in the QFs, and keep up your awesome 2004, Myskina! :D
