Hey All,
To my favorite Venus fans - bless you for keeping a realistic grip on life. Venus lost. Big damn deal! Mary was on and Venus was a little off - and that is the bottom line. There is no big mystery - seeing that tennis is only a game. Mary brought her A-Game to Athens thus far - and she beat a great player. When Mary was playing fierce tennis - she certainly was no slouch.
Mary last beat Venus in 1998. The record was 6-2 in favor of Venus. Wouldn’t it be boring as ‘ell if players on the tour never felt that they could beat a player that had a winning record against them? Let’s get real here. Venus had a losing record to Martina and Lindsay for a couple of years before she started beating them.
This is the first year that Mary has had decent results since 2001 - if I am not mistaken. Didn’t she come back from injuries? And weren’t some writing her off and suggesting that she retire? Now how does that sound? IMO - as long as a player has the nerve to compete on the tour - they have the time and opportunity to IMPROVE. May haps - Venus will beat Mary the next time they play. I mean - come on!
Again - it would be pretty darn boring if one’s fave won every match they played. Not only that - it would be shortsighted and slow minded for someone to think that a way. It really is sad that some folks can’t cop a grip concerning their so-called faves.
Lastly - some of Venus' so-called fans need to move on. Please find a new fave - so that you can leave Venus alone when she loses. She does not need your support - does not know and care about ’ya - and can make it w/o ’ya. No problem!
“CONGRATULATIONS MARY” “I’M STILL PULLING FOR YOU AT THE US OPEN VENUS - 'CAUSE I STILL BELIEVE IN 'YA” “I LOVE YOU - GIRLIE-GIRL”
