View Full Version : Your thoughts on your native country's olympics so far

Aug 18th, 2004, 02:45 AM
This message board obviously contains numerous people from many countries around the world. What are everybody's thoughts on their Olympics Tennis Teams so far? Have they: A. Met your expectations B. Exceded your expectations or C. Fallen short of your expectations.

The US Women's team has met my expectations. They didn't have their best possible singles lineup, but as of today, all singles players are still in the draw.
Lisa & Martina are also still standing.

The US Mens team has exceded my expectations. I expected Roddick to advance to the R16, but Taylor Dent's & Mardy Fish's results have impressed me. The Bryan Bros. also just won over a tough Belarus team easily.

Best of luck to the USA throughout the rest of the Olympics. :) :D

The Brits only sent Tim. He lost first round.

He spent longer at the Opening Ceremony than he did in the draw.

Was Rusedski not qualified to make the team or did he simply choose not to go?

Not sure to be honest. He's been short of form since returning from his drug ban, that wasn't or whatever and I'm sure he would have been eligible as he's always been on the Davis Cup team, but maybe after everything he wasn't ready to play.

Sorry I can't give you a complete answer but my apathy towards men's tennis and British tennis is combined on this one to give me no information whatsoever.

I'm very disappointed... Niemeyer lost in 3 sets to Taylor Dent, and Niemeyer/Nestor lost to Llodra/Santoro. I think there were no canadian women in the singles or doubles draw.

Everyone def. Canada. Yawn. Sadness. :crying2:

go hingis

Alicia Molik and Nicole Pratt have both played great, I knew they both could do well, but wasn't sure if they would so I guess they have exceded my expectations.

Well, we won one medal, but it was a gold in swimming.

Elena Baltacha and Anne Keothavong should have gone. They are good players!

They sucked the worst. The government should send them, including Wilander and Nysröm, to a hard-labour camp in Lapland to make amends. The rest of the Swedish Olympic should join them there unless they deliver. No medals then punishment that would be the only fair and reasonable thing to do.

Alicia and Nicole have done extreamly well to make the third round. Australians really lift when representing their countries.

My country is kinda sad of the performance of Niemeyer/Nestor ... but if you look at this point, we are so loser!!!

Aug 18th, 2004, 05:11 AM
we're tied with mongolia in the medal count, so i'm happy :woohoo:

Aug 18th, 2004, 05:13 AM
Um I think the Philippines has two representatives... so I doubt we'll get a medal since one was already gone.

Aug 18th, 2004, 05:18 AM
i'm going to pretend i'm swiss because when it comes to tennis i am. it's been ok. roger losing was a big shock, and myriam's loss was even worse. patty has been surprising good though beating 2 tough opponents and patty and myriam had a good opening round win in doubles

Aug 18th, 2004, 05:22 AM
I think Molik and Pratt have done very well :)
I wasnt expecting huge things from them but for Alicia to overcome Lena D and with both of them still in the hunt, its great :yeah:

we'll win more!!! you'll see....

i think we could take the gold in baseball, and maybe something in softball, and....that event where you jump over those things while running, you know? forgot what its called. and hopefully more events.

im quite surprised though. didnt think we'd suck this bad.

After Sydney, the expectations for The Netherlands were really really high. Obviously, there is no way the athletes can live up to them. The results so far have been pretty much rubbish. The media already expected Leontien van Moorsel, Pieter van den Hoogenband and Inge de Bruijn to have won gold by now. Leontien could have, if she hadn't fallen  Inge got bronze; Pieter silver. Then we have our hopes on baseball (losing 8-3 to Japan; 7-0 to Canada), volleyball (beating Russia 3-2 , falling to the USA 0-3 :scared: ), Mia Audina in badminton (playing the #3 seeds in women's doubles with Lotte Bruil and the #1 seed in singles), some rowers, some sailers (The biggest Dutch hope actually was disqualified one race and is now like #15 or something) and the hockey teams (the men only narrowly beat New Zealand 4-3 yesterday.. I mean New Zealand  ) So.. It's not going too well, considering the fencers, shooters and gymnasts are already long gone.

I am dissapointed with the argentinian team.. Our 3 top ten men players withdrew because of injuries, the other 2 lost in the 1st round and the only one remaining withdrew from his 2nd round match injured too

The girls..... pfffff Dulko lost to Sprem in the 1st round, Diaz Oliva lost to Kuznetsova in the 1st round and SUAREZ lost to Zuluaga in the 2nd round :fiery:

I wasn't expecting a medal in singles but not this disaster....

The only doubles team remaining is Suarez and Tarabini, I really hope they can reach the semis and win a medal!!!

Aug 18th, 2004, 10:13 AM
So far our performance demonstrates the sad state of British sport

Aug 18th, 2004, 10:23 AM
its been totally fucked. we shouldnt have lost in badminton for fucks sake....thank god i have belgium and australia to support.

Aug 18th, 2004, 10:49 AM
The Aussies! We've gone relatively well in everything we've contested.

...Molik and Pratt are going very well too.
