View Full Version : Athens Round of 16 Predictions

Aug 18th, 2004, 01:08 AM
(1) BEL HENIN-HARDENNE vs. AUS PRATT  (Pipsqueak Fight)

Are my the only person that is surprise that Pratt is even in the round of 16? Her run will end her at the hands of :bigwave: the Justinator ... Justine will embarass Pratt 6-0, 6-2.

FRA PIERCE vs. (6) WILLIAMS :boxing: (Big Babe Battle)

Well the last time they met at RG Venus rocked Mary on a surface that suits Mary better so I don't think the story will be any different this time. Venus will win 6-3, 6-3.

(3) RUS MYSKINA vs. GRE DANIILIDOU :smoke:

Hometown girl found her game in time to win 2 rounds in her home Olympics ... I think this will go three sets since Myskina was shaky today and Eleni will be inspired but I don't think Eleni will be able to pull off the upset.

(11) ITA SCHIAVONE vs. COL ZULUAGA

Too close to call - I will go w/ Zuluaga in a tight 3 setter.

(8) JPN SUGIYAMA vs. (12) CRO SPREM :armed:

Time for Ai to get revenge for Montreal ... She dug deep against Zheng and she will have to do alot of retrieving here to track down K-Lina's blasts but I expect Ai to prevail Ai to win in 3.

USA RAYMOND vs. AUS MOLIK :bolt:(Underachiever Tussle)

Well this will be a battle of two players trying to get to net ASAP ... will probably be a good match to watch that differs from all the groudie wars. Molik will come out on top in 3 - she has more confidance in big matches.

(5) RUS KUZNETSOVA vs. (10) SUI SCHNYDER

I think Sveta will be slightly bothered by Patty's spin but will overpower Patty to win in 2 tight sets.

(16) USA RUBIN vs (2) FRA MAURESMO :yippee:

Chanda has a good run but Amelie is brimming w/ confidence right now. Amelie easily in straight sets.

Maybe, maybe not. Good luck to both... but it is my prediction, which is what the thread is calling for. ;)

I hope it's a great match with the better player winning on that day. That's all we can hope for.

Henin def. Pratt 6-1; 6-2

Williams def. Pierce 6-0; 6-1 (Mary sucks against power players)

Danilidou def. Myskina 5-7; 7-6; 6-4 (the homecrowd coupled w/ Myskina's recent suckiness should pull Eleni through)

Schiavone def. Zuluaga 7-6; 6-4

Sprem def. Sugiyama 6-0; 6-4

Raymond def. Molik 7-6; 3-6; 6-4

Schnydef def. Kuznetsova 6-4; 7-5 (I just have this feeling...)

Rubin def. Mauresmo 6-4; 5-7; 6-3 (another gut instinct)

:wavey: Hello Mr!!! Been meaning to say how glad I am Sprem has really come up in the last few months...you must be a happy camper!:wavey:

Justine vs Nicole : Nicole annoyed Justine in the first set at the AO the last match I remember them playing...I'm predicting Justine to run away with it after a close first set.

Mary vs Venus: It's the Olympics...Venus in 2

Myskina vs Eleni: If Eleni takes the first set I think she will upset in 2 sets...if Myskina grabs the first I think she will take it in 3...home crowd counts for alot.

Sciavone vs Zuluaga: Zuluaga in 2

Ai vs Sprem: will be 3 sets but I think Sprem will win. (had to say that...didn't want a foot up my backside hehe:tape: )

Lisa vs Alica: Being a huge Molik fan...I'm kinda nervous about this match...conditions are going to mean everything in this match IMO. If it's blustery then Lisa is one of the last people you want to play with her experience. I still say Alicia in 3 :hearts:

Patty vs Kuz: Svetlana in 3 sets...I think...don't really know with this one :o

Mauresmo vs Chanda: Mauresmo comfortably I think.

(16) USA RUBIN vs (2) FRA MAURESMO :yippee:

Chanda has a good run but Amelie is brimming w/ confidence right now. Amelie easily in straight sets.

You people give Chanda no credit. Wasn't Amelie also brimming with confidence after Philadelphia at the YEC. Maybe you don't realize but Chanda leads their head to head 3-1, and Amelie hasn't beaten Chanda in three years. You're going to be pleasantly surprised :)

Justine def Pratt 6-4 6-0 I think Justine will start slow but gather some momentum as the match goes on and roll through the second.

Venus def Pierce 6-2 6-1 On Venus' least favorite surface @ the FO, she overwhelmed Pierce on a court where Mary is very comfortable. I think Venus is as confident as she has been all year right now and her movement will be the key that lifts her easily over Pierce.

Danilidou def Myskina 6-4 1-6 7-5 Eleni's hometown support combined with Myskina overplaying will carry the Greek woman one step closer to achieving her dream.

Schiavone def Zuluaga 6-4 6-3 Haven't seen Zuluaga as much as I would like to make a prediction, but Schiavone is capable of playing very well at any time.

Sprem def Sugiyama 7-5 7-6 Sprem has the ability to keep Ai on her heels and blast winners at will. If she keeps her errors low like in Wimby 2R, she should win.

Molik def Raymond 6-3 6-4 Alicia is playing very well and is on a roll that should continue into the next round.

Kuznetsova defeat Schnyder 7-6 6-2 Svetlana will take some time to adjust to Patty's style of play, but once she gets a rhythm , she should overpower Patty.

Mauresmo defeat Rubin 7-5 6-1 If Chanda can get on top VERY early, Mauresmo may begin to feel the pressure. But if Amelie gets the 1st break, she should gain enough confidence to really go for her shots, which is when she is really dominant and fun to watch.

Dandilidou is not going to win, today she colapsed to the ground in pain, after her match said she could barely walk, she had a torn muscle before or currently, not sure. Look for Myskina to force her to run, I say Myskina 6-3, 1-0 Dandilidou retires

I think you just need to look at this years results to see who's the best player. While she may have hit her stride (Sprem) she hasn't any gooood wins since beating (Well, with the help of the chair umpire) and out of form Venus. Ai has won a title this year and also got to the QF of Wimbledon (Sprem's QF appearence was her highlight but Ai matched it). Also, Ai almost won her QF while Sprem got pummeled!

Ai is also ranked higher and will be for sime time!

Correction, she won an injured Mauresmo......or an emotional Mauresmo....I always give 2 scores for any game by any player.....Chanda has no chance against the real Mauresmo.....but she might have a chance against Mauresmo of the day....alot of players are dedicated and good and sometimes get lucky enough to pull big upsets, but some players are naturally good, I believe personally that Mauresmo is the ultimate under achiever for such a great talent that she posseses.....

and henin was also obviously sick in the quarter-finals of miami when chanda beat her 6-2, 6-3. funny how chanda has beaten almost every top player but almost all of them were sick or suffering from something else when she beat them - how lucky has chanda been!!

and amelie must have been injured on the other 2 times that chanda beat her. funny amelie's illness/emotions didn't affect her in the RR of the YEC 2003 when she beat dementieva and took a set of clijsters, or in her semi win over world no.1 henin, but it must have really got to her when she lost to chanda in her second RR match 6-2 in the third.

the fact is amelie's only win was 7-5, 7-5 at the US Open and chanda in that match was overcome by illness (vomitting) in the match due to intense heat.

i love amelie and have great respect for her game but the fact is that chanda's game has worked well against her in the past and no excuses can alter the fact that she has beaten her 3 times
