Well said GB. If Testud who just had to be on the Olympic team was to take Golovin's place on the Olympic team couldn't she atleast have shown up to play?

Indeed what a great decision to send Sandrine to the Olympics instead of T. Golovin.

lol, how hard is it to find anyone older than Silvia nowadays....
Silvia must be happy that she is actually the young one in this match.
Good luck next round and do Italy proud.

I think Sandrine was a bit selfish for this tournament. She knew it was not very fair to go to Athens, she was not in form, not able to defender his chances as well as Emilie or Tatiana. But l'envie l'a emportÚ sur la raison.

You know what, to hell with you people attacking Sandrine. Golovin would have lost to Silvia as well, so who freakin cares? You just show up to hate on a player because it makes you feel smart. What the hell ever. Sandrine would double-bagel every one of you, and if she wants to continue playing tennis then MORE POWER TO HER. She made the semifinals of Wimbledon in doubles, more than most of the tour can say. She's scalped numerous #1s... she had an off day, it HAPPENS. Anna Smashnova lost 2-6 1-6... are you calling for her to retire?

I really hope Sandrine doesn't read this board. You people should be ashamed of yourselves for calling a player of Sandrine's callibre "pathetic." You are a DISGRACE to tennis and all of you are going on my ignore list.

Beating Silvia would have been a tough thing for Sandrine to do even in her prime, so the loss isn't a surprise. What IS surprising though is that Sandrine's results in her comeback have gotten progressively WORSE instead of better. She went from reaching the quarters of a challenger, beating Magui Serna and almost beating Dechy, to barely losing to the likes of Groenefeld and Lorenzo, to losing decisively to Katalin Marosi (outside of the top 150), to getting mauled by Silvia...you would think she'd be improving with more match play.

Ignore the French haters, Scotty. They know not what they do. :baby:

Bradshaw, your point is well taken. I'm sure Sandrine expected to have many more singles wins under her belt by this time. Juggling her responsibilities as a mother and staying competitive with all these ambitious youngsters may be too much to ask.

Sandrine is very proud and she must be discouraged by all the losses but no one can argue she's still one of the game's top doubles players. Maybe she'll specialize like Tauziat, Martina, and Aranxta have done. I'm not ready to give up on her in singles just yet but only Sandrine can say if she wants to put forth the effort needed to be competitive.

I agree with you in most part, but i think it is natural for people and particularly french people to criticize her. I do agree that it is kinda rude to criticize such a great champion, and a very nice person. I spoke to her a tad at RG, and she is a real sweetie, hope she doesnt read these negative posts. Golovin is talented, but young, and IMO deserved to be overlooked as opposed to Sandrine, whose experience and accomplishments require no propping up.
