I like Maria's big cross-court backhand winners and the big forehands down the line.
I also like the clever little lobs she plays when her opponent comes to the net.

Enjoy your trip mate :wavey: Yes...I guess follow through is what I was looking for...:) I just love it when she swings her racket above her head...Not over her shoulder if you understand what I mean...You don't see that technique very often, I've seen it done by a couple of players...But never in men's tennis...

Thanks...:)

lakan kildap
Aug 17th, 2004, 07:18 AM
Forehand looks more dramatic with follow through that has the racket brushing by head. Especially when I realize how close her long earrings are to the racket as it swings by. Results wise, I like the backhand better though. it's lethal, and far less prone to errors.

Now, as to shot=picture, I like her the most when celebrating and flashing that elusive but oh, so precious, so girlish "Sharapova Smile". Playing, I like her when receiving serve, both head on with eyes focused on the other side of the court, and on profile (side view). Like I said in previous post, how she can both be fierce and sweet is mesmerizing.

:) Last Wimbledon...They had this thing called "Tornado Cam" (or something like that) at the BBC...They were able to show super slow motion images with that...They used it on Maria's serve first...And then the forehand with the swing above her head...These images were SO incredibly beautiful...You could see these shots frame for frame...It was really amazing...I would give a kingdom if anyone could provide me these images...
(Which reminds me...Why didn't I tape it?)

Dan23
Aug 17th, 2004, 12:56 PM
Unfortunately we didnt get such advanced slow-mo footage here.
Though I have seen in a video the "Tornado Cam" view of Marias backhand and you're right it is amazing when the shots are slowed down like that.
Talk to Nouf, I wouldnt be surprised if he has some of that footage, Id be interested to see that forehand slow-mo too :)

Aww, Dan23,

love the shot, but I can't help thinking it's an accident waiting to happen. look how she has to tilt her head just to evade the racket.

My absolute favorite shot (picture, that is) of Maria is the one from Wimbledon where she holds the trophy for the first time and appears to read whatever was inscribed in the dish. Even while watching it happen on TV, I was already going like "that's your best shot there! Photogs, nail that shot!"

For one, there's the genuine innocence of this charming 17 year old, like a kid opening her present under the Christmas tree. Then there's the soft, even, gold-colored sunlight reflected from the trophy that illuminates her face and makes her head glow. I mean, Maria is already luminous in her beauty even without trying ;) but what about adding some light?

Fantastic shot.

That's the one eddyday, and variations of it. even on TV it was amazing.

And she wasn't letting go of that trophy in the end, refusing to hand it over to that Englishman, insisting on holding it, plus the massive bouquet of flowers, and then even waving to fans with her left hand as she exited Centre Court.

Dan23
Sep 2nd, 2004, 02:38 AM
Thats right Lakan Maria didnt want to give it back. In the interview after the match she said that she cant wait to get to the Wimby ball so she could hold the trophy again :D

Back on tennis shots, Maria is getting pretty damn good at the big backhand winners down the line especially when shes really reaching for it.
She hit one in the match against Granville that absolutely scorched around the net post deep into the corner, it was the shot of the match I think :)
