Perhaps someone kind could translate this for me ?
24 year-old Maja Metev˛ič, who was injured for more than half a year and has played only one match at the tournaments this year has beaten the Japanese Obata in 2 sets. With that she has won a first tennis victory for Slovenia at the Olympics.
Matev˛ič will meet the defender of the title Venus Williams in the second round, but before that she will compete in the doubles on monday with Tina Pisnik against Chinese players Zi Yan in Jie Zheng.
"I went into the match without worries, because I didn't know what to expect after such a long absence. It was a joy to play," said Maja Matev˛ič, who has lost more than half a season because of an elbow injury (the cause of it is still unclear).
"I went to see at least 10 doctors, many specialists and almost each told a different diagnosis; from nerve inflamation, to overstressing it, chronical back problems … I hope now it's all behind me, eventhough I must admit everything is not OK yet. I don't feel pains while playing, but when I stop it still hurts. I'm going to a neck massage now." Told at the moment 265. player of the WTA world rankings.
Maribor player Tina Pisnik was worst off. The highest ranked player of the WTA rankings lost to Zimbabwes Cara Black in 2 sets. Pisnik started great and lead 3:0, but then began to lose steam and walked off the court as loser. »It was sort of OK for first match after my absence. I hope to have a few good practices in the next few days, that I need for a successful continuation of the season. I still feel paind in the neck, it started in the second set today. Even now that I'm cooled down I feel I need a massage. If I find a nice guy somewhere it can be done ;-),« Pisnik was in a good mood despite the loss.
