View Full Version : Lindsay's CINCINNATI Bandwagon

Aug 13th, 2004, 01:22 PM
Lindsay has accepted a wildcard into next week's Cincinnati event. I think this is actually really strange, but good luck. :D This is a field where she could/should easily dominate.

I don't want this to turn out like Strasbourg though. But this is hardcourts, so different situation.

Aug 13th, 2004, 04:10 PM
All I'm going to say is best of luck Lindsay :)

Aug 13th, 2004, 04:36 PM
GO LINDSAY, extend your streak, earn some points, boost your confidence, and get title #44!

Aug 13th, 2004, 10:12 PM
Go Lindsay:)

Aug 14th, 2004, 12:43 AM
I don't think it is particularly strange that she accepted a wildcard. A good way to get extra points for a higher seeding at the U.S Open. GO LINDSAY! Good Luck!

Aug 14th, 2004, 12:53 AM
Yea linds. this is so easily hers

Aug 14th, 2004, 02:36 AM
Unfortunately, Lindsay's ranking will stay at 4 through the US Open, no matter what. :(

Aug 14th, 2004, 02:49 AM
its ok... she'll win it no matter what

Aug 14th, 2004, 02:51 AM
Only one I can see hurting her is Bepa. She is really playing well now, and has given Lindsay trouble before.

She could take her :yeah:

Gooooooo LINDSAY

Aug 14th, 2004, 12:35 PM
COME ON LINDS :bounce:

Aug 14th, 2004, 07:32 PM
Here is her draw:

1) Davenport vs. Bye
Osterloh vs. Q
Razzano vs. Grande
7) Pennetta vs. Ashley

4) Bartoli vs. Kirilenko
Santangelo vs. Q
Granville vs. Kleinova
5) Chladkova vs. Harkleroad

8) Weingartner vs. Gagliardi
Sfar vs. Pin
Irvin vs. Washington
3) Frazier vs. Q

6) Craybas vs. Sequera
Jidkova vs. Lee-Waters
Groenefeld vs. Q
2) Zvonareva vs. Bye

She got the easiest possible draw. The only player I can even see her losing a set to is Bepa, and she couldn't meet her until the final.

Aug 14th, 2004, 07:50 PM
alright Lindsay, good luck!! woo hoo

Bepa wasn't chosen for the Russian Olympic Team. The spots went to Lena D, Svetlana, Nadya and Myskina.

I think it may just have something to do with the seeding for the US Open. Good on her! I doubt she will be stretched here or risk putting herself out for injury. She must be feeling fit and ready to place :worship:

Aug 17th, 2004, 06:12 PM

About 48 hours from now, dominance should recommence. Discuss.

Totally agree. She will be feeling relaxed after a 2 week break and knowing she has had some terrific wins over Venus (2) and Serena (1) and she was playing well and looked at least a step quicker since Wimbledon. She just has to stay fit and healthy and the No 1 spot could be hers after the US Open! Anyone else agree!:worship:

I'm most amazed by the change in her movement. At Wimbledon, it was good for Lindsay, but below average in terms of other players. Starting at Stanford, she was actually moving like a normal player would, which is amazing for her. Arguably, she is playing the best tennis of her career. IMO she's playing better than when she won her grandslams. She's moving so well, and still hitting the ball amazingly hard.

all these days of rest :D good for her...:yeah:

I agree her movement  sooooooooo much better :clap2:

Aug 18th, 2004, 09:11 PM
She plays Osterloh tomorrow night. Could be tricky, but back when Osterloh was at her best Lindsay beat her 6-2 6-0. Should not be a big problem.

Aug 18th, 2004, 09:15 PM
COME ON LINDS! :bouce: Demolish this field. :yeah:

Aug 18th, 2004, 10:13 PM
She will be feeling refreshed & ready to commence battle.

Go Lindsay:)

Great article on Lindsay and her "retirement".

Refreshed Davenport back in action
She returns for U.S. Open buildup after 14 straight
victories, three tourney titles, two weeks off

The Associated Press
Updated: 9:02 p.m. ET Aug. 18, 2004

MASON, Ohio - Lindsay Davenport sounds absolutely refreshed about tennis.

She had hinted she might not return to Wimbledon after a loss in the semifinals in July. When she arrived in Cincinnati, however, her mood had changed dramatically. After taking two weeks off, shes ready to go.

This is my favorite time of the year to play summer in the United States, Davenport said Wednesday at the Western and Southern Womens Open. I want to keep the roll going that Ive built, and this is my best surface.

Davenport has won 14 consecutive matches and three straight tournaments since losing to eventual champion Maria Sharapova in the Wimbledon semifinals. After that match, when asked how many times she might be returning to Wimbledon, davenport replied, Id be surprised if I was back.

I think that was blown out of proportion a little bit, Davenport said. Im 28 and Ive been playing (professionally) since I was 15. Ive had a long amazing career. A lot depends on my health.

The WTAs fourth-ranked player is seeded first in the Ohio tournament and is to play No. 137 Lilia Osterloh in the round of 16 Thursday night.

I think this will be a wake-up call for Linds. I mean this is the 1st set since Stanford she's lost. I have a hunch she'll roll past the rest now :bounce:

6-4,4-4 - shows Linds is still there mentally, her tightest match in a while, and she dealt with the pressure :yeah:

Saturday 21st August 2004

Top seed Lindsay Davenport had little difficulty advancing to the semi-finals at the Cincinnati Open, beating seventh-seed Flavia Pennetta in straight sets.
Davenport beat her Italian opponent 6-2 6-2 in just 45 minutes to register her 16th straight victory.

The American, who won a gold medal at the Atlanta Games in 1996, decided not to participate in the Athens Olympics to prepare her game for the US Open.

Meanwhile, fourth seed Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli stands between Davenport and a place in the final after she eased to a 6-3 6-1 victory over unseeded American Laura Granville.

Second-seeded Vera Zvonareva of Russia also advanced to the semi-finals with a routine 6-2 6-2 win over Chinese qualifier Peng Shuai.

Zvonareva will meet third-seeded American Amy Frazier, who cruised to a 6-3 6-1 victory over Selim Sfar of Tunisia.

All the women last night cruised into the SFs so those matches should be far more interesting and then the final too.

Lindsay advanced to the final when Bartoli withdrew with a hand injury. She plays either Frazier or Zvonareva in the final. Forza baby.

Great pics andrew. especially like the last one. Like the outfit.

Good news Linds, you want to play as little as poss really. Only three matches this week, pretty easy going really

Aug 21st, 2004, 11:07 PM
Yes I am pleased that she only has 3 matches this week. Next week in New Haven the competition is stronger so she needs to conserve her energy as much as possible ready for the US Open.

Good Luck Linds :)
