View Full Version : If Nastya Myskina double crowns Montreal and Sopot, she'll be #1 in the world.

Within 2 weeks, Justine will have less than 500 points lead over the other top 4 players. However, Lindsay is taking 3 weeks off, and with points to drop off, Amelie will not pass Justine. The only person with a chance to pass Justine will be Myskina. If Nastya can get enough quality points from Montreal, then she wont need to win Sopot, but she'll clinch #1 in the world by winning both to become the first ever Russian #1. :D.

In Montreal, if both Amelie and Nastya can reach semifinal, they'll pass Lindsay as well.

Is Myskina actually playing Sopot or is she just signed up and will pull out right before the event starts? If she does play, then she has the most incredibly stupid scheduling of all top ten players! Why play two Tier I's in a row followed by the Olympics, all on hardcourt, just to go to a weak and meaningless tournament in Poland the week before the US Open? Especially since it's on a completely different surface! Is she that desparate for a title or is she hoping to crash and burn early at the US Open like she did at Wimbledon? I seriously hope that Anastasia changes her mind and pulls out of Sopot.

If she plays Sopot, that's just terrible.

The next highest ranked player would be what, #30??

At this moment, a Myskina no. 1 or a Lindsay no. 1 will feel much more justified

I'll give $20 Nastya will withdraw from Sopot... especially if she goes deep in the draw in Monthreal

If she can handle it, more power to her.

Actually it's a top 20....and guess which one......Anna Smashnova-Pistolesi, lol:D.
If she wins these 2 events in a row, then Nastya is #1 in the world.
And I'm pretty sure that Sopot will become one famous tournament if she Nastya reaches #1 there.:)

Are you sure of this ? Don't forget she has to replace her 16th and 17th result (50+44 pts) and so has to gain more points. It could all be depending on quality points.

Winning Montreal will give her more than 400 points if most seeds hold.
Which means winning another Tier III on round points alone can make Nastya pass Justine.
It'll probably be close, but that's where the excitement is;). But I'm pretty sure winning both will make her #1.

Well if this year GS champion goes down with two sticks in Tier I final then it gives more ground for speculations does she really deserves to be #1 or not.

In my eyes right now she's not real #1, but if she will win in Canada then I'm ready to take my words back...

Well personally I would rather Amélie got to No.1 ;) , but that said, if she can't, I'd be happy to see Anastasia reach No. 1 :D ! It would be so ironic if she did, and just a few months after saying she didn't think she'd ever win a Grand Slam, she'd won Roland Garros and got to No.1  !! Anyway, I like Anastasia, she's deceptively good, makes me laugh the way she expresses herself on court (poor Jens!), and I can't remember her being bitchy about any of the other players! (Though I'm sure if I missed it, someone will post and let me know! ;) )

When exactly did she say that she would never win a slam?:o Who does that? BTW, I have decided that Myskina is such a nice, warm, respectable person. That Zvonareva match really gave me a change of heart.:wavey: But I STILL like J-Cap more, so go Jenny and get those quality points on the way to the Montreal title;) .

well, if Myskina gets #1, then all of her goals for tennis will have been realized.....maybe her hunger will drop and she might retire. awwwww, i hope she gets #1, but don't retire right away.
