Let's see, Lindsay leads...
The Porsche Race to the Champs
The US Open Series Rankings
The "2004 Most Title" List

and will soon lead the Entry System rankings as well. :D

Great summer tennis, Linds; now take your deserved rest for three weeks and stay healthy.

You should have seen my reaction when I woke up to the news - I seriously didn't know if she could win (it was more so how she would respond after jamming her knee yesterday and Myskina's epic match last night). Awesome win.

She's almost got an 800 point gap going ahead of Mauresmo!

Even though some of the players are playing Montreal - Lindsay's assured that no 1 Race to the WTA Champs till at least after the Olympics :)

Do the Olympics give points??

Leo_DFP
Aug 2nd, 2004, 12:29 AM
Yes, I think the Olympics gives the same number of points as a Tier II event... or something like that.

Lindsay's really got the race in the bag. She's many points up on her closest rival. They really would have to win both the Olympics and Montreal to take it from her, and then Lindsay has New Haven.

Let's just hope she's got the Open in the bag, as well. That's what really matters to her, although I doubt that even Davenport could deny the excitement of ending a year at #1 again. :)

And considering I think only Amelie is playing both Montreal and the Olympics she should keep the lead until after the Olympics.

I know they've just brought that in because in 1996 and 2000 it was just the honour of representing your country.

Here's the breakdown for the Olympics:

Olympic Tennis Event
(Singles Only)

Winner - 248 (Gold Medallist)
Finalist - 174 (Silver Medallist)
SF - 122 (Bronze Medallist)
QF - 94 (4th place)
4R - 62
3R - 34
2R - 20
1R - 1

While Quality Points are the same as normal tournaments.

So even if Amelie won the Olympic Gold Medal against Justine H-H and also won Montreal against the 2nd seed Myskina she would still be trailing Lindsay by just under 100 points.

He he I love what WTA Tour said about Montreal...

One of the missing top 20 will allow the field of 56 to finally breathe a sigh of relief this week, as the scorching-hot Lindsay Davenport has decided to take a break from torturing her fellow WTA Tour players and rest up for the remainder of the hard court season. Davenport has been virtually unstoppable in a three-week run on the Tour, reaching three straight finals and taking a commanding lead in the Porsche Race to the Championships.

oh damn it, another final i have missed/not been able to see cos i live in a black hole.
the enjoyment of seeing the result via teletext just isnt the same, plus when i decided to cheer quite loudly at the teletext screen, my family cam in and thought i was such a freeeeak, but who cares.

Does anyone have this match? and will let me borrow/copy/buy it etc.
Im soo pissed off right now, its unbelievable, but on the other hand, im soooo happy.

Well living in Australia sucks at the moment - 3 tournaments in a row we haven't gotten coverage of - instead we're getting the bloody ATP tournaments thrown at us left right and centre - the last tournament I've seen Lindsay play in was Wimbledon.... then again maybe it's a good thing we're not getting coverage :)

How's this Myskina and Mauresmo will get points for playing Montreal and the Olympics - but I think it's safe to say they won't be getting near the 858 point margin Lindsay has over them as of today. They'll either split two the tournaments or one would have to win both to get near it and I have this feeling that Justine's going to come back and dominate the Olympics (or Venus if she gets over her sprained wrist)...

So with a 3 week break ahead of her, Lindsay has 858 point lead over Myskina in the Race to the WTA Championship and an 1514 point margin over No 8 position - when they get to 2000 ahead of No 8 position, submissions occurred... so basically if Lindsay went well at New Haven and got into at least the 3R at the US Open she'd be the first one accepted...

the important rankings are the wta tour rankings... where myskina is 278 points behind lindsay.. that is what matters. if myskina makes the semifinals of the rogers cup (which she will... ;) ) she will jump davenport in the rankings.

ahh one of the fans that comes in a thread for another player andm talks about their favorite fan. I think that was the tunnel vision fan. DOn't remember though could be wrong. And rankings are very important.

a bit confused by what you mean on your post...

Some characteristics of the tunnel-vision fan (a.k.a. people blinded by their fandom)
they perceive the most benign comments (and sometimes non-comments) as an insult to their favorite
they invade other threads and somehow make it about their favorite
they tear down players that could be a threat to their favorite in some way (whether on or off court) and belittle their accomplishments
they constantly make excuses for their favorites and/or the people associated with them
they attack other fans who aren't a fan of their player, criticize their player (even if that person's a fan), or sometimes fans who just aren't complimentary enough
they constantly make stupid threads about their favorite

lol... ok. i hope your not considering me one of your "tunnel vision" fans. i was simply stating that the porsche rankings are not the rankings people look at. the wta tour rankings are.... and myskina (along with mauresmo) could both be 2 and 3, with davenport falling to 4 by the end of the week. those are the rankings that matter....
