er.. Didn't Lindsay and Serena both get demolished by a Russian, back-to-back a month ago. And Wimbledon is definately not held on clay!

oh come on now give Myskina credit. She must be exhausted. Plus she doesn't match up well against Lindsay anyway. And Lindsay is playing at full throttle.

Great Job Lindsay, but I still think that if the Williams Sisters, especially Venus, are healthy by the time New York comes around they'd take Lindsay out.

Maybe Sharapova should reconsider naturalization then. Ahem.

Seriously though, I don't think that's fair re Nastya.

Davenport isn't everyone else. She is the only US player in form, the only power player who has a working forehand abd serve and the only player in the top 10 who could currently play through Myskina (Momo is the unknown) Myskina has beaten practically everybody else in the top 10.

Then even things up a bit. Put Davenport out on court 13 hours after she won a 3 setter with the longest 3rd set TB and see how well she does. Let her play sharapova in the previous round. Lets see how well Lindsay does when something significant is at stake and the match gets tight too?

It's a recurring pattern. She does go all out against fellow Russians, and seems lacksadasical against anyone else.

And as for her being tired, that's the game. You have to win matches on successive days to win tournaments. Lindsay was injured, and playing her third successive week in the final.

?

Look at the Top ten comparisons thread.

Myskina has a losing head-to-head against everyone but the Russians.

Doc, seriously. Has Myskina played all Russians in her 32 wins this year? And is it her fault there are so many good Russians that she faces nowadays? What a transparent cheap shot that was to throw at Anastasia.

It's also silly for people to celebrate OR criticize the 'Russian Revolution,' because tennis is AN INDIVIDUAL sport. I don't think all the Russians have a huge celebration together after every tournament win, nor do the Americans. There are a lot of Russian girls doing well recently. I don't see why it should be a huge deal.

That all said, today's final was a bit anticlimactic. Anastasia was surely fatigued mentally and physically after last night. I thought it was so cool how she watched Zvonareva's doubles match, though. But Anastasia didn't step in enough to attack Lindsay's second serves, and she just wasn't hitting her shots on the run that well.

The way Lindsay played though, I don't think there was much more that Anastasia could have done. Davenport was just not letting up at all... and the serve held up nicely. She was also attacking Anastasia's serve like it was nothing.

But to those complaining about some American conspiracy, get over yourselves. There was one bad line call in the final. And one of the semifinals had to be played at night... Would you still be complaining if Anastasia had finished the match when she served for it in the second set, instead of having to take it in a third set tiebreak? Elena had legitamite reason to complain in the SF, but the linespeople were just bad period that day. You come off like sore losers making excuses when you read sinister motives into everything.

Anyway, congratulations Lindsay. Keep up this amazing form! :D And bad luck, Anastasia. You'll do better next time. I hope you do well at the Olympics! :clap2:

Not at all we've had all these threads the past couple of days about how Myskina was the true Russian. She was the top player, the real champion, the one who was going to win everything. As I said at the time, we'll see how she does whe going for the title.

And the same old pattern emerges. She plays her guts out against Russians and slumps against other top players. 6-1 6-1. Was that a champion performance? And Lindsay was injured and has been playing solidly for three weeks without a break.

I didn't realize that Chanda Rubin, Venus Williams, and Jennifer Capriati had suddenly become Russian. Thanks for making me aware of this fact. The only players Anastasia has been beaten soundly by this season are Jennifer Capriati on clay, Justine Henin-Hardenne (who was the dominant #1 at that point) at IW, and Lindsay Davenport (who is the dominant hardcourt player at the moment). She lost in tight straight sets to Clijsters and Mauresmo, the only other top players she's played this year.

Also, Lindsay jammed her knee yesterday. She was perfectly fine today, moving wonderfully.

I don't think ANYONE is going to be dominant any time soon. Anastasia is the best of the Russians at the moment, but nobody who's being realistic expects her to win everything. If you take issue to threads about Anastasia being the true Russian champion, maybe you'll think back to Wimbledon. Thread titles like 'Will Maria dominate the hardcourt season?' come to mind. Where was your indignation then? These things cut both ways... there are people who overhype players and those who will underrate them - true for both Myskina AND Sharapova, and everyone else for that matter.

Lindsay is quite frankly amazing me right now. Three tier I/II titles in a row, and clearly winning with "dominating" play. Whatever she's on right now --- whether that's a new zest for life, or performance enhancing drugs (hehe) ;) --- it's doing wonders for her game. She's in good form right now; but I don't know how that will translate at the U.S. Open. :)

Nastya must have been exhausted from last night's match; but that still doesn't explain how someone with so much "fight", could get steamrolled like this. Maybe there's some credence to the belief that she "always" brings her "A" game against other Russians, and is less consistent in doing so with non-Russian players. Then again, maybe not... who knows?

Absolutely. The Cheatah could not have been possibly less tired after her Capriati epic semis at last US Open. Yet the next afternoon in the finals she was all guns blazing.

Somehow I just have an impression that even with her "A" game she wouldn't be able to beat Lindsay in her current form. Playing against unerring power and precision and not being able to destroy opponent's confidence you have only two choices: either you lose or play with more power and precision than your opponent.
