View Full Version : Aussie says no to Sharapova and Father

Aug 1st, 2004, 03:10 PM
Herald-Sun today......Sharapova and her father have been seeking an Aussie as her coach.....he has said no.....they have known each other for several years...Coach has 2 young pups and won't pass on them to tour.

He said something like "She texted me every round at Wimbledon....I'm still helping her....etc etc" Will bring the paper back home from work tomorrow and spit the whole thing out....apparently they have gone over 3 contracts and he won't leave his young family....but still good friends with her obviously.

Sharapova for AO next year....she's a smart lass :wavey:

Which Aussie?

Makes you wonder though.....Molik has just beaten the world # 3....biggest win since Nicole Bradtke beat an Injured Graf in fed-cup....not worthy of a mention in any sports coverage here.....Australian Womens tennis has been in disaray for so long it isn't funny....Zero Coverage of scores and tournaments here....

I AM FUCKING EMBARASSED TO BE A SUPPORTER OF WOMENS TENNIS IS AUSTRALIA....WITHOUT STUBBS AND BRADTKE...WE WOULD BE WORSE....Woodforde has lost my respect...if your'e gay just say it and be done with it.

Cawley?? Champion...out of the realm for to long sweetheart.

Alicia has way too much on her shoulders....she...along with Pratt....are the only Aussie Players that put their social life aside....Alicia obviously a more powerful player.

I believe Tennis Australia and the current Fed Cup occupancy....seeya Sam...happened to too many her age here.IMO

Maybe the big paycheck from winning wimbly helped her to be more selective in finding a coach. She can throw the moolah around like all the other gals now. Maybe she can find a bodyguard that would prevent Lindsay from approaching her in the locker room to ask "what are you doing in here?"

I say she should find a lawyer and copyright those shots and movements on court before Venus comes for her s***t.

Wow. And her I thought her serve is already big enough;).
I love Australians, and I do hope she can get one, but I wonder how the Russians will react to this.

Nice to see some men choose family over career. She is talented and will find a worthy coach soon.

Maria has more coaches than any player in tennis! :D And her travelling coach Maurecio Hadad from Bollettieri's has been travelling the circuit with Maria for over a year and he helped her win Wimbledon. Maria has Robert Lansdorp as her long distance coach in California and Nick Bollettieri as her long distance advisor in Florida. And Masha's father Yuri is the real head coach. Masha doesn't need any more coaches.

I believe the Australian coach the article was talking about is Michael Baroch. He along with Hadad were Masha's travelling coaches last year during the French Open and Wimbledon. But as long as Maria's father is travelling with Maria he or any other coach won't be the #1 coach for Sharapova.

Was the dig at Woodforde based on fact or opinion? I was having a laugh as I read it. It's like you know something we don't, Kirt. Spill it, boyo!

What's wrong with Hadad ?

I'm wondering the same thing, alfonso. Maria is doing fine with Maurecio Hadad from Bollettieri's as her travelling coach. He's been her travelling coach or travelling co-coach for over a year now. Last year through the French Open and Wimbledon Hadad shared the travelling coah duties with Michael Baroch from Australia. And Baroch got alot of credit for Maria's Wimbledon debut round of 16 appearance last year. But then Maria won Wimbledon this year without Baroch's coaching. I think Hadad is the travelling coach Masha should work with. But I get a feeling that Maria's dad is getting antsy and wants someone else working with Masha as a travelling coach.

Baroch is a much more high powered coach than Hadad, and I believe he has worked with Maria longer. Baroch coached Philippousis for three years. He is well settled as head coach in Melbourne International Tennis School though.

Hadad is more a player turned coach, and probably has less to teach Maria. His overall career winnings are less than Maria made from winning Wimbledon.

Oh Well. That's one loyal coach. Pretty clever.

i met mark woodforde at a davis cup function last year and although obviously i can't say whether he is gay or not he certainly did not give any signs that he is.
