Aug 1st, 2004, 08:38 AM
I think Lindsay should win but Myskina will be a lot stronger mentally after her match today against Vera.

Aug 1st, 2004, 08:40 AM
depends a lot on davenport. myskina is a real fighter but if lindsay comes out firing i can't see lindsay losing. if lindsay is a bit off her game it will be a real struggle for her

Aug 1st, 2004, 08:41 AM
her morale is very very high now till the extend
she believes she can beat anybody....

Aug 1st, 2004, 08:41 AM
Davenport will win. :bounce:

Aug 1st, 2004, 09:04 AM
I have to give the edge to Lindsay, but depends on how tired Myskina will be or not. Myskina is gonna be doing a lot of running and if Linds is serving well and her groundstrokes deep, it will be a short day for the Russian.

lindsay in two!:bounce:

according to alot of Nastya haters on this board
Nastya is a fluke
if she wins the other person was playing horrible
she'd never make top 10
would never live up to her slam seeding (1/4 for last two aus opens)
she doesnt deserve to be a slam champion

etc etc .............. so many more where that came from

go Nastya, make it happen again ;)
shut them up again :)

I think Lindsay will win in straight sets.

I want Nastya to win. However if it goes to three sets, I think Nastya will win.

How bad is Lindsay's knee? But the outcome and score of this match could be an indicator as how either player might do at the USO.

Aug 1st, 2004, 11:20 AM
my heart says Nastya, but my mind goes for Linds...I think it's gonna be really hard to defeat her if she plays on the level, she's been playnig recently.
Come what may!

Aug 1st, 2004, 12:35 PM
I totally agree with chris whiteside here.

It depends how bad Lindsay's knee is - if it is just a jam that won't affect her game today then she'd have to be favourite - but there's no counting out Anastasia.

It also depends how Anastasia recovers from playing that match yesterday.

I'd love to see Lindsay win in two though I think Anastasia will win in 3.

Aug 1st, 2004, 12:59 PM
Lindsay 6-1;6-4 :yeah:

Aug 1st, 2004, 01:32 PM
Myskina is gonna make Lindsay work really really hard for this win, but in the end Lindsay will win...she´s on tooo high roll right now.

Nastya will win in 3! :D

Aug 1st, 2004, 02:31 PM
Nastya :)

Aug 1st, 2004, 02:42 PM
Of course I hope Nastya will win
But unfortunatelly the circumstances are not equal - the organizers did their job leaving Nastya only 14 hours to rest. And if the linesmen help a little again...
But go Nastya you are a fighter you can beat them all. Think about #2 and your friend Lena who await your vengeance for her:yeah:

I agree with chris whiteside on Lindsay's knee. We didn't think anything was wrong with her knee at the FO and that was a factor in her loss to Elena there, so if she is hindered by the strapping that she is going to wear to protect the knee and Myskina keeps her in long rallies, I think Myskina will in in three sets.

Aug 1st, 2004, 03:54 PM
Myskina will find a way :) Lindsay is playing her usual offensive game great, but Myskina doesn't let her opponents play their own game

Aug 1st, 2004, 04:15 PM
Go Lindsay!!

Aug 1st, 2004, 04:38 PM
Hopefully Lindsay will win in two sets, getting stronger on the no.1 spot in the Race and no.2 in rankings :yeah:

I think Lindsay will win in 3 after a tough match :)

It will be Acura Classic 2004 Final, taking place exactly at noon under the Californian sun, that is going to show us much more than just Tier I winner. American “Tower of Power” Lindsay Davenport takes on Russian No.1 Anastasia Myskina. Lindsay comes into this match as a favorite, but Nastya will surely have something to say in this entertaining battle. If we look in the H2H records Davenport is leading 3-0, but lets see how much does it mean. First meeting of ladies took place during the 2001 season in New Haven, where US player crushed her opponent 6.2 6.1. During the 2003 season Myskina met Lindsay in the same tournament and managed to take one more game than previous year. The last meeting was seen during the Hopman Cup Russia-America rubber, where American prevailed 6.4 6.4. And these stats mean exactly nothing, ‘cause we are not going to see the same Nastya, who is surely much more confident after her brilliant FO win, nor the same Davenport, who is approaching her optimum performance during the last two weeks period. It is Myskina first Hard Court showing after 4th round exit at Wimbledon. In her semifinal battle she shown something more than a good shots, she shown the mind of the real champion, saving 10 MP before prevailing over compatriot Vera Zvonareva 6.2 6.7 7.6, including 15.13 win in the third set tie-breaker. On the other side of the draw Lindsay shown Elena Dementieva some astonishing performance winning 6.2 6.4 in a very classy way. Although Daveport jammed her knee in the end of the second set, she later claimed it should not bothering her in the final, and we deeply believe it won’t. All of the circumstances bring just more and more IF’s. IF Davenport is not injured, if Myskina is not tired… But putting the facts straight IF Lindsay plays as she used to during Hard Court season, Myskina stand less than 30-70 chances over American champion. Both Myskina and Davenport are tired, but lets say it loud Nastya is MUCH fitter than American, and surely requires less time to recover. So IF Nastya recovered and Lindsay did not chances would go up to 60-40 in Anastasia favor. What I hope is that Davenport will come out eager, hungry for win, will try to run down Myskina shots ( and she shown she can during QF match against Sugiyama ) , and show us some physical toughness. If real Lindsay shows up my prediction is 6-3 7-5. But don’t forget under-hyped Russian, who surely knows what does it mean to play tennis. It is just a bit more in Lindsay Davenport hands.

Lindsay just sounds so hungry for this win, and she's arguably playing the best tennis of her career.

Wow. Tough one for a lot of reasons. Man it's hard to pick a winner when you truly like both players...

I'm going to say Myskina in 3. Just because even though Linz has been a goddamn machine lately she's played a ton. I'm not sure how her knee is going to feeling.

On the other hand, Nastya may be a little physically and mentally exhausted from yesterday's match. Hmmm...

Aug 1st, 2004, 06:17 PM
I think that Lindsay is going to win this one. She is playing real well now and Myskina may be a bit tired from yesterday's match too.

Aug 1st, 2004, 06:55 PM
I think Lindsay in 3... Maybe 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. But it does depend on how well Myskina recovers from her SF match, and how well Lindsay's knee is holding up. Anastasia has been impressive (unfortunately at the expense of Vera  ), and this should be a well-contested final! Serving will be a key - Both need to hit a high percentage of first serves. Anastasia will want to keep the rallies longer and move Lindsay around, while Lindsay will have to keep her composure despite the variety of Myskina. :D Good luck, ladies!

Lindsay 6-3 6-2

Just so everyone knows, I totally called this match-up at the beginning of the week. Cha-ching! :D

I just watched my tape of the Davenport/Dementieva semifinal and I have to say that I'm very worried for Davenport with her knee. I think if she's not fully recovered and not moving well, beating Myskina would be too tough a task for her. Thankfully after Paris when her knee was tweaked, she was physically fine again in a couple of weeks and able to play great tennis at Wimbledon, so I don't think this slight problem that arose yesterday will hurt her USO chances (since she will be resting for 3 weeks after today), but it could very well hurt her chances today in the final.

Good luck, Lindsay. And please stay healthy.
