With her win over Dementieva, Lindsay moves her ranking up to #2 for the first time since January 2002. Congrats!

I think if Myskina defeats Davenport in the finals (of course she has to get past Zvonareva first), she'll be the #2 ... not Davenport! Don't start partying yet ...

That's only if she actually takes to court with Lindsay. If Myskina wins either her semi or the final by walkover, she will not pass Lindsay. But, she can get to #2 with a win over Lindsay by about 10 points.

The only shot Lindsay has at #1 is at the US Open.
Can you imagine her holding the trophy and say "woohoo, I'm the #1 in the world"?:D.
Let's hope she does get there:).

Well technically, she's not. Clijsters is still #2 until monday!:) She is #2 in the projected rankings though ... which don't mean much ... but GO LINDSAY!:D

Actually, if Myskina and Mauresmo do really badly next week and at the Olympics, and Lindsay wins New Haven, she has a shot at it before the Open.

Nope. Check the points again.
Justine has 4515 points is and Lindsay's shot is at US Open since she cant pas her.
Lindsay has points to drop off from NH thus will not not pass Justine before then even if she wins NH.

omg, it was sooooo tence at the end there.

Both were injured, definately Elena bit, and I dont know about Lindsay, she was pulling up once or twice, the commentators picked it up.

I am so glad she won 6-4 in the second, i dont know what would have happened if the match went and further.

Hope she will be ok for her next match.

There were some dodgy line calls goin on, and Linds was arguing loads, which is unlike here.

In the 1st set she kinda did this half star jump, which i though was cute

I am glad that Lindsay is doing well. It's nice to see an ex-number one to go out with a BANG.

There are a lot of talk about the number one spot @ USOpen. To me, if Justine loses the seat (which is quite possible but no one knows how she will play when she comes back) to either Lindsay or Momo, I won't be too sad at all. I know Lindsay seems to deserve it more as her recent performance shows what she is made of. Momo on the other hand, needs something special to give her that little push toward the first GS. Maybe world number one will give her just that. Myskina won her GS but consistency can be a bit up and down, especially between tournements.

One thing we have to bear in mind is that wether Lindsay's fitness can hold up. She is in form now but injuries will be her enemy. She is not Ai Sugiyama who could play non-stop.

It's indeed very tense towards the end of the year. I just wish Justine, Kim, Venus...... ok ok and Serena can be 100% at US Open. How cool will that be!

If she wins the next round, by the end of Montreal, she'll be less than 200 points apart. But because Lindsay will be skipping for 3 weeks straight, that's as close as she's gonna get.
And she has New Haven points to come off when Justine is playing Athens, she'll not pass her until the end of US Open. But Lindsay will have the lead going into Flushing Meadows if she does well in New Haven. However, she is not the only one fighting for that ranking:).

Actually I just did a calculation and even if Myskina wins the whole tournament she won't be in front of Davenport, but she would be ahead of Mauresmo for no 3.

To my calculations Davenport will be on 4066 and Myskina will be on 4036.

Because Davenport would get Final + beating Dementieva (210 + 43 = 253)
= 3975 - 162 + 253 = 4066
While Myskina would get Winner + beating Davenport (300 + 55 = 355)
= 3720 - 39 + 355 = 4036

Yup, but you haven't calculated the quality points each player received by beating their previous opponents.

Congrats Linds! If Momo doesn't get it, I defintely hope you do!
But we can't forget that when Juju come back, the race will be even harder for all of them ( Linds, Nastya and Momo).
When they win points, the others do too.

Whoops my mistake yeah Myskina would be in front with the addition of the QPs.

Who knows maybe Zvonareva can pull off an upset and we won't have to worry about all this - since she's just taken the match into a 3rd set.
