Really bad officiating - wrong calls, missed calls both ways.

Lindsay was a better player for the most of the game and deserved to win.

Congrats Lindsay. Flawless 1st set.

However Elena was not even 100% and she still nearly got it close. Credit to Lindsay for hanging tough.

Bigger credit to Elena, who with an injury and with her 'bad' serve, still managed to keep Lindsay on edge and gave her, her toughest match since the BOW final.

Elena, get well soon. No Lindsay at the Olympics, keep building on this form :)

I found it funny that Elena had more winners than Lindsay. Some of her FHs at the end were

Stop this, please. Elena does not deserve any more credit for a good performance because she did so with a bad serve. Her serve is a weakness (mainly because the placement is pretty predictable - always to a righty's forehand), but when she's not double faulting, it's more effective than people realize. When you never know if a second serve will come in at 100 mph or 60 mph, it's tough to get any rhythm.

Besides that, a serve is something that can be fixed. I'm impressed with Elena achieving so much despite her weaknesses, and I'm sad that her serve motion became what it is due to that shoulder injury. But she's healthy, and has the ability to work on the serve. So she doesn't deserve 'credit' for being a good player despite her serve, as the serve is completely under her control.

For that matter, if you're going to give credit to players for playing well despite weaknesses, how about Lindsay being able to win despite her lack of speed? Or Amelie despite her lack of mental strength? Or Venus despite her nagging injuries? You see, you can do that for almost any player. :)

By the way, it was a good fight from Elena in the second set. She played very well at the beginning and end of the set, while Lindsay struggled with unforced errors. That line call did change the complexion of the match, but I think it was going to be a tough set regardless with no clear favorite to win. And seeing as both players got injured in that set, I think they both competed well to the very end.

Linsay is my girl but I don't see anything wrong with giving Elena some credit. She could have wilted away but did the best she could against a player that was just smacking the hell out of the ball.

Elena's serve may not be wonderful, but to lose a match and yet had more winners than her opponent shows that Elena was out there to compete.

Best of luck to Lindsay in the final tomorrow. She is gonna really have to be at her best two get by Mykina or Vera, only because I think Linds is probably a little weary of tennis right now and both of those players are great movers.

That was only Luck and the good will of the Regeree and the Linesmen. First Set Lindsay played great, but at the end of Set 2 she was tired. She had never won a 3rd Set!!!

Gosh I'm rather rude, I forgot to mention Elena's small injury. She had her knee wrapped in the middle of the match. I hope she's okay too!

What I meant about Elena's 'bad' serve was, that people were slating Elena. They were saying how Lindsay was gona steamroll her because of her serve.

If anything, Elena actually served okay. It was supposed to be ironic. However, her serve is a big weakness, and Lindsay is a great returner. So Elena, before even stepping on court, already had a big hole in her game to cover up. Then the addition of her NOT so small injury came into play. And the 3rd game of the second set.

Elena played Lindsay tough even though she was not at 100%. Lindsay only said she jammed her knee at 5-4 (ONE GAME), so otherwise, she was on fire pretty much.

Lindsay's injury is not too serious, it is not related to her previous knee injury at all she is quoted as saying. :)

Lets just hope Elena doesn't join the injury list.

Sorry, Dee, I caught the irony a little late ;). But still, my point stands. I just hate (speaking in general, here) when people talk about how good player X would be without a certain weakness, because all players have weaknesses... it's part of the game. You work on it as best you can.

And also, I though Elena looked injured for a couple games when Lindsay went up 5-2... But at 5-3 she started playing amazing! She was moving very well, I thought. Maybe it was just one of those things where you start going for it more when you're injured, because you have nothing to lose. But she was  there for the last few games.

I don't think either player's injury will be too serious. I honestly think if Lindsay had lost that set, Elena would have carried the momentum and won the third though. Because Elena was looking great, and Lindsay looked incredibly tentative. The knee jam may not be a serious long-term injury, but it was certainly hurting her at the end of that match, and I'm glad she could close the second set because she wasn't running well or hitting with nearly as much authority after the knee jam.

No problem :)

Yeah Lindsay wasn't moving that effectively and Elena began to move the ball around more.

I think its better Elena lost, she has a lot of tennis up ahead, whilst Lindsay now has a few weeks to rest after today.

Good luck to both girls! :)
