View Full Version : The Battle for World #2 Anticipation: Amelie vs Nastya in Canadian Open Final

Jul 31st, 2004, 04:17 PM
Last week Nastya fell short as she only won 2 games from Lindsay in the battle for #2.
She'll have another chance this time, and she could be so close to #1 if she wins this week. Let's see what happens.

Anastasia's goal is to reach #1 and to show that the French Open was no fluke.

Other moves in the race including:
Vera passes Jennifer to become #10 in the race.
Serena passes Venus to become #5 in the race.

The race is now led by 2 players who have not won slams this year.
Also the 3 players just missed the cutoff (#8-10) are all Russians. :worship: :)

If she wins this tournament, she'll be #2. The race just became a lot more exciting:).
Let's see if the present #1 in the world can get those points back. She can only do it when she is defending her US Open title.

The present #1 has nothing to prove... she's already out for a long time, it's almost amazing that she's still #3 without playing since so long...

Yes it is impressive, but she did win Australian Open, so it's less of a surprise.
I think it's more amzing that Maria the Wimbledon champ is struggling to stay in the race.
And and with the 3 Russians behind Maria, they are currently chasing the Williams sisters.

So this is what the current top 10 in the race to championship looks like.

Williams sisters

This race is so exciting, I havent been this excited since Ai raced Venus at the finishing line last year.:D.

WOOOHOOO Nastya:woohoo:
Don't stop here girl! :yeah:

Have you the actual ranking?
Will Nastya pass Kim and Momo with a win tonight?

Jul 31st, 2004, 07:20 PM
Actually she'll only pass Kim, she has to win the whole thing to pass Momo.
And Lindsay will clinch #2 if she wins next round. But if she doesnt and Nastya wins San Diego, she's #2:).
And I do have my own ranking, actual one, but our beloved TBE already has a thread about that, you can check it out, it's not up to match update tho;).
But how could will it be for her to reach #2 in the world:D.Oh thanks:worship: (http://www.wtaworld.com/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=34#)
I have seen Eggy's thread but didn't know he updates it daily:) (http://www.wtaworld.com/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=34#)
#2-#5 are so close:eek: (http://www.wtaworld.com/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=34#)

Justine was bound to lose her number 1 position at the race since she's not playing. However if someone has to overtake her, Myskina is one of those I won't mind doing the job. Great champion. Grand slam title holder. Regular results on the tour for years. Fair and square. But I really hope Justine is on her way back now.

Congratulation:). She should be the first Russian clinched for YEC.

i prefer slam champions being #1.

I doubt either Myskina or Mauresmo will reach the Montreal final.
