Well, I guess now it´s for sure: Kim won´t be able to play this year at the US Open, this is such a pity and I hope she will come back soon.

This comes from her official website: http://www.kimclijsters.be/

No US Open for Kim

31-07-2004

Kim's recovery from a tough wrist injury is progressing well. The muscle mass around the joint is still not what it used to be and that could be dangerous for a new injury. Therefore Kim decided to cancel for the US Open. She won't do so for Marc Dehous, for the cooperation has been prolonged for at least another year.

On Friday, Kim Clijsters returned from her visit to the doctor with good news. The left wrist has been healing well ever since the surgery. Only the muscle mass around the joint is still not the same as the right wrist. In the next few weeks exercises will focus on balancing the muscle mass.

All this makes Kim's participation for the US Open impossible. The chance for a new injury is too big with such a weak wrist. Especially getting up from her straddle would be problematic. Kim knows that she has to prevent herself from taking unnecessary risks during a tournament.

This means that Clijsters will be back in competition for the Gaz de France Stars, and this from 27 September in Hasselt. Both for her and the Belgian spectators definitely something to look for.

The cooperation with Kim's coach Marc Dehous has been prolonged with another year. Both sides were very enthusiastic and the new agreement will keep them together until August 2005.

Oh.... I was sooo hoping to watch her play....
Well, it's good that she decided not to take any risks since her wrist isn't full healed yet....
Anyway, Get well soon, KIM!!!!

I would have loved to see Kim play again, but this is a very wise decision...
here's an article from a Belgian newspaper I translated for CCL(there can we some mistakes in it as I only made a quick translation, sorry for that):
Clijsters not to the US Open
En on Monday she’ll also lose her second place on the world ranking list

Kim Clijsters won’t go to the US Open. After a check up with the doctor yesterday, they decided not to take any risks. The return of the Belgian is now planned for the WTA-tournament in Hasselt at the end of September.

On March the 11th Kim Clijsters got a wrist injury. That injury kept causing trouble and a couple of months ago a surgery was necessary. Ten days ago they hoped that she still would be able to participate to the US Open, that starts end August.

“But, she won’t make it”, says coach Marc De Hous. “The doctors didn’t want to take any risks”, says the coach, who’s contract recently was prolonged with one year. “Otherwise it could be over with her doublehanded backhand, or even with her career. Kim is still too young to gamble on this.”

Meanwhile she has to hand over her second place on the world-ranking list. Amélie Mauresmo will certainly jump over her, and if Lindsay Davenport reaches the final in San Diego, the American will pass both to the second place and Clijsters will become number 4.

Agghhrr. I had some silent hope she would be at the Open.
The good decision is that she has committed to play the Hasselt tournament till 2006, which means she will be around for at least two more seasons.

Oh no, she is going to plummit down the ranks even more now

OH well, id much rather her not play, than play and risk another potential injury i suppose. The WTA is going to contuinue to suffer with all these tournies. It's going to be tough to cut them down, coz of money, but players are going to have to play less.

 This is so sad, and last year around this time we were celebrating her reign over WTA:(.
This week will be her hardest fall, Nastya is closed to knocking her down to #5.
But after that she wont fall as hard as this week. Even though she'll lose more points in US Open, it's likely she'll stay in top 10, around #7 or #8.
I hope WTA is not going to "punish" Kim too:(. Good choice to return in a Tier III event though.

OMG I want kim back on tour. I wanna see consistency on the tour again and she and lindsay provided it. There are upsets everywhere. What is going on in the world?
